1 Association of Colleges The Association of Colleges (AoC) exists to represent and promote the interests of Colleges and provide members with professional support services. As such, we aim to be the authoritative voice of Colleges based on credible analysis, research, advocacy and consultation with Colleges and the first choice destination for guidance and advice for members. AoC was established in 1996 by Colleges themselves as a voice for further education and higher education delivered in Colleges at national and regional level. Our membership includes General and Specialist Further ducation Colleges and Sixth Form Colleges in ngland and we work with other College associations via the UK Council of Colleges AoC's structure includes a busy national office in London, an active network of nine regional offices and a very wide range of member networks, through which College staff, Governors and students inform and shape AoC policy and activity. AoC s Governors Council was established in 2009 with a mission to develop and use the experience and expertise of Governors, to represent their views in the formulation of AoC Policy and promote best practice in College governance. Following a review of Governor development and support in further education, AoC has built a Governance team which will deliver a programme funded by the ducation and Training Foundation and supervised by the Governors Council. 2 Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities 1. Governors Council and other groups Support the Governors Council in its role in representing and promoting College governance by working with the Chair of the Governors Council and the Governance Administrator, manage the meetings schedule, agenda, minutes and future plan. nsure that there is support for other groups, including Portfolio Group, task groups and National Clerks Network 2. ata gathering and Reporting Reporting on the impact of the Governance evelopment programme, including: Recording the outputs and outcomes of the governance programme, collecting data from relevant sources Monitoring regional delivery and liaising with regional governance leads Liaising with the National Leaders of on assignments and progress against targets and impact Timely delivery of reporting to Governors Council, Portfolio Group, the ducation and Training Foundation and BIS Monitoring regularly against budget 3. Communication Managing Governor communications, which includes but is not limited to: communication of information to and from national government and Governing bodies collection of accurate information on AoC s CRM of Clerks, Principal PA, Governors, Intermediaries rafting a monthly Governance newsletter aimed at Chairs and Governors plus technical briefings for Clerks Complementary social media activities (eg twitter) Writing more detailed topical briefings customised for Governors Work with other members of the team, AoC Create and AoC Regions to ensure there are briefing events on current subjects of interest to AoC College Governors 4. Advice and Help Provide appropriate and timely advice and where necessary forwarding to to the xperts or National Leaders Create new briefing notes or take up issues with other organisations based on the intelligence gathered through queries, and maintain a list of topics 2
