There are no specific job outcomes to this qualification, but the skills achieved will assist in successfully undertaking a Certificate II pre-vocational program or job outcome qualification, or will facilitate entry into an Australian Apprenticeship. The unit CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry is designed to meet OHS regulatory authority requirements for OHS induction and must be achieved before access to any building and construction work site. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. 27 Asbestos Awareness Asbestos Awareness Asbestos Awareness OBJECTIVES: The aim of the course to satisfy the regulatory requirements of the Building Act. The course is designed to meet the needs of trades people, services workers, builders, building certifiers and community members. The Asbestos Awareness training is aimed at increasing employers and employees understanding of their duties and where there is cause for concern when it comes to asbestos in the workplace. Most people are emotive about asbestos and fail to understand that asbestos is a risk to health when asbestos fibres become airborne and are then inhaled. There is a general duty of care on employers to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees, visitors, contractors and others in the workplace. It is the employer s responsibility to ensure that all reasonably practicable measures have been taken to control risks against all possible injuries arising from asbestos in the workplace. One of the key elements of CTI s course is to explain how the law applies to asbestos and its management in the workplace. In other words how to comply with legislation to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. The main objective of the Asbestos Awareness course is to cover the following topics: What is asbestos? It includes all occupational areas that may require working near electricity. There is a general duty of care on employers to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees, visitors, contractors and others in the workplace. It is the employer s responsibility to ensure that all reasonably practicable measures have been taken to control risks against all possible injuries arising from working with (or near) electricity.
