2 Qualification Information This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are engaged to manage the work of others or to add value to, or review management practices. Their role may be in any industry or organisational setting. Typically people in these roles will have considerable experience in their respective industries or vocational areas and combine an informed perspective of specific work requirements with their managerial approaches. The qualification requires a sound theoretical knowledge base and managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate own work or the work of a team. Job roles Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include: Manager Entry requirements There are no entry requirements for this qualification. Pathways into the qualification Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification may include: OR BSB40212 Certificate IV in Business or other relevant qualification with vocational experience assisting in a range of support roles without a formal business qualification. Pathways from the qualification A range of Diploma level qualifications. Study Options This course can be undertaken on campus or some flexible/online options are available. Recognition of Existing Skills When you apply to train at TasTAFE you can ask for recognition of previous work or study experience. This is called Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Page 2 Version: 18-Aug-14

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers Training options include face-to-face delivery, and/or supported flexible study with online resources or a combination of blended learning. How can I be accepted into a Business course? Semester I enrolments: January Semester 2 enrolments: July On-line: Ongoing enrolments throughout the year When will a timetable be issued? A timetable will be issued on the day of enrolment. When will classes start? Semester 1: February 2014 Semester 2: July 2014 On-line: Ongoing enrolments throughout the year What are the fees and charges for the Business courses? Upfront payment of fees at the time of enrolment is preferred. You can use credit cards, cash, cheque and EFTPOS to make your payment. If you are unable to meet your upfront payment, you will be able to pay the fees in full within 30 days where you can request an invoice and pay on this basis. Alternatively, VET-FEE-HELP is available for students studying at diploma level and above. VET FEE-HELP can be used to pay for all or part of an eligible student s tuition fees, but cannot be used for additional study costs such as accommodation or text books (for further information visit Where do I go to pay my fees? Once you have completed your enrolment forms with the Business staff you can proceed to Client Services Staff in the Main Office of TasTAFE on the corner of Paterson & Wellington Streets, Launceston to finalise your enrolment. What textbooks, stationery etc. is required? If textbooks are required a list will be provided. These books are available for hire from the library. Please bring with you pen and paper. What if I have already completed a competency in another qualification? Students may apply for Credit Transfer for any successfully completed competency or competencies from one qualification to another. Credit Transfers do not attract fees. Does TasTAFE have a Recognition Policy? Yes, TasTAFE does have a Recognition Policy. For further information about recognition of prior learning and skills, or to apply for recognition, please contact your teacher or Client Services staff. Do refunds apply? A refund of fees can only be made if you have not yet started your course, or participated in the module or competency for which you are seeking a refund. A minimum refund of $20 applies. 6 Diploma of Management Requirements Total number of units = 8 8 elective units 5 elective units must be selected from the Group A units listed below. 3 elective units may be selected from Group A units or Group B units listed below, from this Training Package or from any current accredited course or endorsed Training Package at this qualification level. One unit may be selected from either a Certificate IV or Advanced Diploma qualification. Elective units must be relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and the qualification level. 7 Group A Electives BSBCUS501C Manage quality customer service This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop strategies to manage organisational systems that ensure products and services are delivered and maintained to standards agreed by the organisation. Operators may have staff involved in delivering customer service and are responsible for the quality of their work. In many instances the work will occur within the organisation s policies and procedures framework. At this level, the exercise of considerable discretion and judgment, using a range of problem solving and decision making strategies, will be required. Particular emphasis is on setting and meeting priorities, analysing information and using a range of strategies to develop further competence. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement. It requires analysis and interpretation of relevant markets, capability assessment of the organisation, and its existing and potential competitors and allies. It also covers implementation of the strategic plan. 9 Group B Unit Electives PSPGOV511A Provide Leadership This unit covers achievement of operational results and effective working relationships through leadership, feedback and support of individuals in a workgroup that may exist in the workplace, be formed for a special purpose or project, or consist of community members, volunteers, inter-agency members, etc. It includes facilitating commitment to objectives and required standards; contributing to the development of a cooperative, high performance workgroup; giving and receiving feedback on performance; supporting and participating in development activities; and providing leadership, direction and guidance in the workgroup.
