GENERAL INFORMATION Attendance Students are expected to attend every class every day. Parents should notify the school if illness necessitates the student s absence. Students who miss more than three classes may not be granted credit. All students must be present to take final examinations. Dress Code Food Service Cancellation of Classes Refund Policy Students should be appropriately dressed. Skirts, slacks, tennis shoes and sandals with back straps are acceptable. Beach wear, shorts and mini-skirts may not be worn. Judgment on the appropriateness of dress will be made by the Director. For field trips or any off-campus activity, the instructor will give dress guidelines. Students in violation of the dress code will be sent to the Attendance Office to contact a parent to bring appropriate clothing for class From June 15 th through July 10 th, food will be on sale from D & L Catering, our cafeteria service, before classes and during the half hour break. Snacks and cold drinks may also be purchased from vending machines. Microwaves are available to heat up food. From July 13 th through July 24 th, only vending machines and microwaves are available. Immaculate Heart reserves the right to cancel any class with enrollment of fewer than fifteen students. All fees paid will be fully and promptly refunded in this event. A student will receive a 50% refund if he/she withdraws from a class within the first week. After five class days, no refund will be made. IH HIGH SCHOOL CO-EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM Registration Tuition Additional Information The completed summer session registration form and emergency contact form may be returned to the school with 50% tuition deposit (and fee where appropriate) starting on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Activity Period. Enrollment is determined on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes will be closed and a Waiting List will begin when the maximum number of students is reached. For more information, please visit www.immaculateheart.org/summerschool MATHEMATICS MATH REVIEW* 8:00 10:30 4 weeks no credit $200 June 15 th July 10th Open to (incoming) 9th grade students *Enrollment by invitation only COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides the student with a review of basic arithmetic operations, integers, fractions, decimals and percents, with special emphasis on problem solving and application to real world situations. ALGEBRA IB* 4 weeks no credit $200 June 15 th - July 10th Open to (incoming) 9th grade students by recommendation) *For remediation only not for advancement. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course contains the usual introductory Algebra content i.e., operations on integers: solving linear equations, inequalities and systems; probability and statistics; exponents; polynomials and simple quadratic and rational equations. All of these concepts are covered in the context of problem solving which occasionally uses simple geometric relationships. Several different functions are introduced as a way to describe numerical patterns and a few of them are studied in depth during the course. Students are required to have a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator. ENGLISH READING/ENGLISH REVIEW* 4 weeks no credit $200 Open to (incoming) 9th grade students *Enrollment by invitation only COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to strengthen the student s skills in reading and language. The reading portion will focus on improving vocabulary and comprehension as well as on building critical reading skills. The writing component, which will include a review of grammar and sentence structure, will help the student to develop clarity of expression.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION MODERN DANCE* (for PE credit) 6 weeks 5 credits $330 COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this energizing summer dance class, students will learn basic modern dance technique through classroom exercises, including daily warm-ups, stretches, stationary and traveling combinations. Students will also enhance their flexibility, coordination, strength and endurance. They will acquire spatial awareness as they explore the creative side of dance through improvisation and choreography exercises. PHYSICAL FITNESS* 8:00 10:00 OR 6 weeks 5 credits $330 COURSE DESCRIPTION: Would you like to get in shape this summer? This is the perfect opportunity to stretch those muscles and work on strength and flexibility. This course will focus on correctly using the weight room equipment for building strength, running for cardio fitness and swimming for relaxing those muscles. Our goal will be to have fun while promoting overall fitness. THEOLOGY LOVE, CHOICES & VOCATIONS* 8:00 10:00 & 6 weeks 5 credits $330 Open to (incoming) 10 th grade students Maximum enrollment: 40 students *Must be taken in conjunction with Sacraments, Church and Liturgy consider vocation choices and focus on the development of mature and permanent relationships. Students reflect on their relationship with God who has called them into being, as well as on family, friendship, dating, and marriage relationships. Students learn what it means to live honestly and with respect and compassion for others as they explore such topics as authentic love and commitment, values and character, and family responsibilities. SACRAMENTS, CHURCH AND LITURGY* 8:00 10:00 6 weeks 5 credits $330 Open to (incoming) 10 th grade students Maximum enrollment: 40 students *Must be taken in conjunction with Love, Choices and Vocations explore the Catholic sacramental view of reality: that God s love and grace are always available and are communicated to us through people, places, actions, and events. The seven sacraments of the Church celebrate this reality through symbol and ritual, while at the same time providing experiences of transformative encounter with Jesus Christ. Students will examine each of these sacraments in detail while reflecting on privileged moments of grace in their lives. CONTEMPORARY MORAL ISSUES* 8:00 10:00 6 weeks 5 credits $330 Open to (incoming) 11 th grade students Maximum enrollment: 25 students *Must be taken in conjunction with The Paschal Mystery address issues that relate to the development of a mature conscience, rooted in Christian principles. Such concerns as personal choice and responsibility, values of peace and justice are explored as they relate to both moral and spiritual growth. All students enrolled in this class are scheduled for a field trip to the Museum of Tolerance. THE PASCHAL MYSTERY* 10:00 12:30 6 weeks 5 credits $330 Open to (incoming) 11 th grade students Maximum enrollment: 25 students *Must be taken in conjunction with Contemporary Moral Issues COURSE DESCRIPTION: Experiencing God through the goodness of creation and the unfolding of God s grace in our lives is a primary focus of this course, which encourages students to recognize that, in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the personal life journey of each one is revealed. Through study, prayer experiences, and reflection exercises, students will come to understand the universal call to holiness, and the various ways that all are invited to respond to God s love and compassion, especially in times of pain and doubt.

VISUAL ARTS DRAWING & PAINTING* 10 credits 6 weeks $660 th th Open to all incoming 9 and current 9, 10th, and 11th grade students. Additional fee for materials: $80 COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class provides an introduction to the basic art elements and principles. Various media are explored including pen and ink, pencil, watercolor, collage, pastel and acrylic. Printmaking and drawing skills are introduced. ILLUSTRATION I - FASHION* 5 credits 3weeks $330 June 15th July 3rd Open to all current 9th through 12th grade Additional fee for materials: $40 Must be taken in conjunction with Illustration II PREREQUISITE: Drawing and Painting or instructor approval. Please contact Ms. Villanueva for more information: cvillanueva@immaculateheart.org COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class provides an opportunity to learn about the designing of fashions for various purposes as well as to learn how fashion collections are presented and marketed. Fashion for stage and film may also be the subject of some of the projects. Watercolor and other drawing mediums are explored in more depth and a sketchbook of ideas and examples is developed. Through this course students will be challenged to problem solve and participate in critical discussions and critiques. ILLUSTRATION II FANTASY AND STORYTELLING* 5 credits 3weeks $330 July 6th July 24th Open to all current 9th through 12th grade Additional fee for materials: $40 Must be taken in conjunction with Illustration I PREREQUISITE: Illustration I. Each medium is handled in an advanced manner. The development of the story, character, and environment is a key part to communicating the story through watercolor medium. Through this course students will be challenged to problem solve and participate in critical discussions and critiques. The emphasis is on creative thinking to solve artistic problems with ingenuity. Students confidently include their responses to experience in their work and are challenged to use a variety of materials creatively as they engage themselves in drawing, painting, printmaking and collage. A portfolio and a visual journal will document their achievement.
