MEDICAL TYPIST 1. PURPOSE OF POSITION This position is responsible for providing a Dictaphone/Winscribe word processing, medical typing service to Taranaki District Health Board (TDHB) in an efficient and productive manner. 2. 5. ACCOUNTABILITIES Key area of responsibility 1. Effectively performs medical transcription within the Medical Typing department. Expected outcomes Provide an effective and timely Dictaphone/Winscribe word processing service for general medical and surgical specialities, including operating theatre and other areas as required. Ensures clinical typing, some digital images and scanned documents are linked to the electronic patient record. Undertakes general clerical duties, eg photocopying, filing, sending of faxes, ordering stores, sorting mail. Undertakes general administration work and day to day functioning of the work area as required. Manages time effectively. Evaluates work levels and plans accordingly. Acts as a role model and accepts responsibility for own work to meet department standards. 2. Customer Service and Communication Confidentiality is maintained at all times. Provides an efficient and punctual service to customers. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity. Provides support as appropriate to colleagues by acknowledging and respecting the view of others. Shares knowledge and skills with others, as required and assists with orientation. Communicates with clients and other staff in a friendly, clear, effective and helpful manner. Develops and maintains a good rapport with other hospital staff/departments. Demonstrates the ability to give constructive feedback to peers and encourages open, honest, safe discussion amongst team. EDUCATION Education, Skill and Experience Computer literate with good word processing Winscribe dictation, Medical typing of letters and clinic typing IBA to link typing to medical record and search for patient information E-mail communication and distributing typing Medical Terminology knowledge certification preferred 9. SKILLS Able to learn new programmes and systems quickly. Excellent grammar and spelling. Knowledge of the health environment. Good communication skills. Time management and organisational skills. Able to work independently under pressure. Team player; supportive, positive and flexible attitude. Has a commitment to quality, accuracy and efficiency and professional presentation. 10.
