CAPITAL PROJECTS DEPARTMENT MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT February 2015 Project Management Division BELOW: Collins Construction crews complete recent exterior work and await delivery of exterior siding. Collins Construction is over 75% complete with construction of the new Joe Redington Sr. JR/SR High School. The School District is anxious to move into their new high school in August 2015. New Joe Redington Sr. JR/SR High School ($65M): In February, Collins Construction completed an extensive amount of work, and is over 75% complete with construction. Collins has completed all roofing, steel erection and metal stud framing. Fire sprinkler and ceramic tile install, mechanical and electrical roughin is nearly complete. Finishes such as: sheet rocking and painting; ceramic tile, hand railings and casework install; and concrete floor polishing are progressing well. Plus, installers have begun construction of the 210,000 gallon water tank. Our project team is focused to remain on schedule to complete construction of this school by August 2015, and relieve overcrowding in Wasilla Middle School and Wasilla High School. ABOVE LEFT: Erection of the 210,000 gallon fire suppression water tank began in February. District-Wide Athletic Field Improvements ($6.5M): Tutka Construction has completed 99% of 2014 upgrades to the athletic fields and courts at five schools - Finger Lake, Snowshoe and Larson Elementary, Glacier View, and Houston High School. Tutka is awaiting receipt of basketball backboards to complete the play courts, and will complete seeding of the grass in the spring. In January, Stantec engineers completed the 100% design of the 2015 Athletic Fields Improvements, including: Su-Valley High, Palmer Junior Middle, Wasilla High, and Glacier View schools. These larger projects, such as the rubberized-surface track at Su-Valley, were advertised in February for construction during the summer of 2015. Houston High School Exterior Envelope Upgrades ($600K:) In February, Eklutna Services, LLC continued to work on replacement of the Houston High school exterior siding and is currently 60% complete with the work. Unfortunately, procurement issues have caused delays in the production of concrete panels, however, Eklutna plans to replace the siding in spring 2015. RIGHT: Houston High School siding is being replaced by Eklutna Services. The new panels are much more durable than the original siding. Swanson Elementary School Exterior Envelope Repairs ($260K): In 2014, Wolverine Supply replaced the damaged exterior tile. This contract work also includes replacement of the commons and library skylights, which are scheduled for replacement in 2015. The Library skylight will be replaced in March and the commons skylight in June. District-Wide Fire Alarm System Replacement ($1M): Remaining funds after replacement of fire alarm systems at 13 schools supports the replacement of fire alarm systems at five additional schools. AMC Engineers is 35% complete with designing upgrades of the fire alarm systems at Palmer High, Big Lake Elementary, Burchell High, Wasilla High, and Teeland Middle schools. After the design is complete, we will advertise for construction to begin in 2015. New Iditarod Elementary School ($25M): This project will construct a 50,605 square foot elementary school that will replace the existing outdated facility. McCool Carlson Green (MCG) was selected as the designer. This project is currently advertised for construction with bids due March 25th. Work is expected to start this spring and will be ready for occupancy by the 2016 school year. Plans for the old building have yet to be determined. Page 2 of 6

Design concept Willow Elementary School Roof Replacement ($1.1M): A construction contract was awarded to Earhart Roofing to replace the entire Willow Elementary School roof. During the project, some structural deficiencies were discovered that required both interior and exterior upgrades which are now complete. District Wide ADA Upgrades ($1.5M): Work includes district wide American Disabilities Act upgrades to parking lots, sidewalks, ramps, curbs, and restrooms at all middle and high schools. A design contract was awarded to Wolf Architecture with construction expected to advertise this month. Work will occur over the 2015 summer break. District Wide Roof Replacements ($6M): This project is funded by the 2011 roof bond balance. The original scope of work was completed under budget resulting in the Department of Education amending the project agreement by adding additional schools to the scope. Bezek Durst Seiser was selected as the design firm with a contract approved by the Assembly January 6, 2015. The initial roof survey has been completed with construction expected to advertise this April. Construction will occur summer 2015. Dena ina Elementary School ($26M): The project scope is to design, construct and equip a new 44,000 square foot elementary school to relieve overcrowding and improve the learning opportunities for the attending students. The site for the new elementary school is adjacent to Redington middle/high school. Bettisworth North Architects have been selected to design the new school. The 95% design submittal has been reviewed by School District staff and presented to the MSBSD School Board and Borough Assembly. The completed design has been submitted to DEED. The project is currently being advertised for competitive bids and receiving a high level of interest within the contracting community. Bids are scheduled to be opened on March 11 th. Page 3 of 6

Flooring Replacements, 8 Schools ($3.1M): The original scope of work for construction in replacing flooring at eight schools has been completed at all eight schools. Two individual contracts were procured to complete new flooring installation at the Colony Middle School rock climbing gym and the multipurpose room at Snowshoe Elementary School. A fourth contract for replacement flooring in the multipurpose rooms at Finger Lake, Tanaina, Cottonwood Creek, and Butte Elementary Schools has been completed. Work is complete at all schools. These contracts have been closed out. A scope request for the addition of several schools has recently been sent to the State. Additional scope is being developed with MSBSD to expend the balance of bond funds. It is anticipated for new work to occur during the summer of 2015. Valley Pathways Replacement School Design and Construction ($22.5M): This 46,239 square foot state of the art facility has been accepted as Substantially Complete and is currently in its one year warranty phase. The school has been successfully opened for its first year of operation. This school boasts of visibility within which is a vast improvement from the traditional blocky inflexible spaces dated schools provide. The open and visible spaces will lend well for improved supervision and security, yet afford a comfortable and inviting environment for learning. The curriculum wing is complete with carpet, interactive white boards, wireless network abilities, document, and distance learning cameras. The school has one of the best panoramic views in the district. The exterior of the school integrates ceramic tile and metal siding in random patterns which gives a very modern yet sophisticated appearance. Two pieces of artwork from the 1% for Art program have recently been installed. More artwork is anticipated to be installed in March. Page 4 of 6

Flooring Replacement, 7 Schools ($685K): The purpose of this project is to replace multipurpose room floor coverings at 7 Borough schools including: Finger Lake Elementary, Goose Bay Elementary, Larson Elementary, Meadow Lakes Elementary, Trapper Creek Elementary, Wasilla Middle, and Burchell High Schools. Asbestos abatement of mastic and tile occurred at Finger Lake and Trapper Creek Elementary schools. Work is complete at all schools. Contracts have been closed. An amendment to the Project Agreement for purchase of maintenance equipment has been requested and authorized from the State. Additional scope is being developed with MSBSD to expend the balance of bond funds. It is anticipated for new work to occur during the summer of 2015. Districtwide Energy Upgrades Design, ($3.2M): This project is to perform design of various energy upgrades at 18 different Borough schools. Site assessments of all the schools are complete and a report has been produced identifying deficiencies to be prioritized by the School District. Upgrades will likely include window replacement and lighting system replacement. Thermographic imaging and analyses has been performed at all 18 schools indicating potential areas of energy loss within the structures. Districtwide HVAC Upgrades Design, ($7.1M): This project is to provide design of various HVAC upgrades at 11 different Borough schools. Site assessments are complete at all schools listed in the contract. Upgrades and enhancements to existing systems will likely include conversion of pneumatic controls to direct digital controls for heating and ventilation, boiler automation and/or modulation and augmentation of existing air handling units. A report of findings from the site assessments has been produced. Deficiencies noted will be prioritized by the MSBSD identifying specific areas of work to fit within the available construction budget. Page 5 of 6
