3 Activities Highlighted: Shotcrete Site Visit Synthetic Turf Site Visit Ohlone Construction Blog Citizens Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) 1. Executive Summary June was a time to visit other campuses in order to evaluate products and processes under consideration for use on the Fremont Campus. On June 10, members of the Executive Core Team visited Stanford University with Gilbane, and Cannon Design, to review installed shotcrete finishes. The visit validated budgeted concrete finishes as acceptable for the Academic Core Buildings project, as well as confirmed the aesthetic expectations of the team. On June 27, the Athletic Fields project team including Ohlone Director of Facilities, Ohlone Women s Soccer Coach, Verde Design, and Gilbane, visited Saratoga High School to view an installed synthetic turf assembly specified for the project. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss field performance and maintenance with the SHS Principal, take temperature readings of the turf surface, and refine the desired synthetic turf specification. With the kickoff of summer construction projects, the Fremont campus has been busy with various activities in multiple locations. In order to assist faculty, staff, students and campus visitors with information on changing conditions, such as parking, access, closures, and outages, Gilbane has been assisting in providing adequate signage as well as updates to the Ohlone Campus Construction Blog and other social media. The quarterly Citizens Bond Oversight Committee meeting was held on June 16, with a tour of Fremont projects prior to the meeting. The tour included the South Parking Structure and the Swing Space modular classrooms under construction, as well as the completed Building 9 gymnasium floor refinishing and energy conservation light replacement projects. Committee members who attended were complimentary of the construction progress, reported that the tour was informative, and requested that additional tours be provided in the future. 5 4. Project Design Progress Athletic Fields Rendering Project 6101 Athletic Fields The project team is preparing for a scope and budget reconciliation meeting with the executive staff in early July. The District intends to use a Lease-Leaseback delivery method for the Athletic Fields. Five firms responded to the RFQ; a short list of three firms has been identified to receive the RFP. RFP responses are due July 21. Project 6102 Roof Repair/Replacement The design kick off meeting was held in June with the design firm, Gilbane, and the Smith Center User Group. Potholing to determine existing roof conditions will begin in July. Smith Center Roof Arts Building Stanford Site Visit Project 6105A Academic Core Buildings The hazardous material consultant has provided their 75% draft documents for review, as well as their draft conceptual cost estimate for hazardous material abatement. The FF&E kickoff meeting for development of the Academic Core Building Furniture Standards was conducted with college staff and faculty. A LEED coordination meeting was held on June 10, 2014, confirming the project is still on track in regard to LEED goals. Acoustic reverberation time measurements were conducted within the existing Building 2 music facilities in order to assess the existing acoustical environments in the rehearsal facilities. This information will inform the design for the new Academic Core Building. Also on June 10, 2014, the District and Gilbane attended a site visit to the Stanford Campus, Central Plant Project to review different finish levels for shotcrete walls so direction could be provided to the design team regarding acceptable levels of finish for the Academic Core Buildings. 6 ACB West Elevation Newark Greenhouse Project 6105A Academic Core Buildings (Con t) Soft demolition of Buildings 1, 2 and 8, which allows for the start of new construction, is still anticipated to begin in early 2015, with hard demolition starting in late May 2015, and new building construction beginning August Project 7105 Newark Greenhouse DSA Backcheck was conducted June 30, Bid documents are being reviewed and the work will be advertised for bid upon receipt of the DSA approved documents. The most recent cost estimate by the Architect is well within budget. A contract is anticipated to be presented to the Board for approval at the the September Board meeting, with construction starting shortly thereafter. OHLONE BOND MEASURE G PROGRAM June

Project Construction Progress Site Utility Infrastructure Site Utility Infrastructure Fremont Swing Space Project 6104 Site Utility Infrastructure Improvements Ghilotti Construction continues with the construction of Phase 1A, Summer Work 2014, with the installation of the sanitary sewer, low voltage, 12KV, and medium pressure gas. St. Francis Electric is preparing for the shutdown of Building 3 for conduit termination and shutdown of Substation 2 for conduit, circuit breaker and conductor installation on July 3, Due to the encounter of unforeseen existing underground utilities and additional bedrock, Ghilotti Construction is experiencing delays in the installation of the sanitary sewer. Owner/Contractor coordination meetings have occurred over the last month to ensure Phase 1A, Summer Work 2014, will stay on schedule to complete August 15, 2014, despite the delays. Project 6105B Swing Space Project Redgwick completed all their punchlist work in June, with their final Change Order (#2) to be processed in August. On June 3, 2014 Guerra began Swing Space Connections Package Phase I. On June 14, 2014, Mobile Modular delivered the last Swing Space Phase I portable buildings at both the Fremont and Newark Campuses. On June 26, 2014, DLR submitted the Fremont Swing Space Phase II documents to DSA. The Newark Swing Space Phase II documents have been with DSA since May 5, On June 20, 2014 IBI submitted their Swing Space classroom furniture layout plans for both Fremont and Newark. IBI will continue to work with Gilbane and District purchasing regarding rooms requiring furniture. IBI has begun their furniture layout for the Swing Space Phase II portables. 8 South Parking Structure Project 6110 Parking Structures South Parking Structure Overaa continues mass excavation of the structure and is expected to complete the first week of July. The installation of the new fire line was completed on June 20, The footing excavation for the structure began on June 24, The rebar for the footing will start on July 14, The project is 21 days behind schedule and Overaa continues to work on a recovery schedule. They have been working longer shifts and weekends to make up for the delay. South Parking Structure Project 6133 Bird (Swallow) Environmental Alternatives Exclusion means and methods are being developed for the bat colony that is overwintering in Buildings 2 and 8. This work will be scheduled for July, A bat emergence survey will be performed by qualified biologists. The work will identify areas of bat colonies and assist in the development of exclusion methods. Six areas within Buildings 2 and 8 have been identified to house bats during the bird netting installation. Building 1 will be surveyed to confirm status. Bat exclusion means and methods include the installation of netting and one way doors and the potential of netting the entire roof structure. Cliff swallows being seasonal, will leave the Campus this winter. Active nest prevention will be performed when the cliff swallows return in Data Center Relocation Data Center Relocation Project 6142A Data Center Relocation Fire suppression work is proceeding, interior framing and drywall is complete. Ceiling work is 90% complete. Communication racks and server racks seismic attachment and anchor installation observation and testing is in progress. The Contractor did not achieve the June 30 completion date. There is approximately five weeks of schedule float for the data center cutover, which still supports completion of all work prior to start of Fall Semester. The project team is reviewing needs for AT&T fiber service and coordinating with Project 6104 to reduce redundancy. OHLONE BOND MEASURE G PROGRAM June

9 Newark Overflow Parking Project 7102 Newark Overflow Parking The Contractor began construction on June 16, The temporary east parking lot was constructed in seven working days and is open for use. Construction of the permanent west parking lot valley gutters and curbs have begun. Installation of the storm drain inlets and gutters resulted in a determination that the existing grade height was 7 to 12 too low. Adjustments are being made to the concrete curbs and subgrade levels to accommodate this grade differential. Changes to the scope of work include removal and reinstallation of the existing ticket machine in parking lot A and installation of bollards at the entrance to the temporary east parking lot. Prop 39 Projects Newark Valley Gutter Framing The Loop Road and Pool Area Lighting is currently in progress. Buildings 5, 6 and 9 down light retrofit is also in progress and is on schedule. Samples of the latest product offerings in the LED replacement bulbs have been received and have been installed for review for potential use in the future. Scope of work and the Form B for Prop 39 projects has been developed and submitted to PG&E and the Chancellors Office. Building 9 Gym Floor Refinishing Gym Floor Logo Gym floor refinishing was completed June 18, and will cure until July 7 when it will be available for use. OHLONE BOND MEASURE G PROGRAM June

10 Quick Fix Project Summary Building 22 Fire Alarm Site Signage Gamma Builders completed tracing all devices back to the old Grinnell Fire Alarm Panel and completed building the new Siemens Fire Alarm Panel. Gamma Builders will continue installing devices at the basement of Building 22. Summer 2014 maps have been reviewed and approved by Ohlone and will go to vendors for shop drawings. Signage will be in place prior to start of summer classes. Mechanical Repairs Building 22 HVAC study is complete and on hold until Academic Core Building design is complete for HVAC controls. Construction repair of Building 19 Sanitary Sewer completed June OHLONE BOND MEASURE G PROGRAM June

11 6. Project Closeout Progress Building 5 Renovation of Room 5101 Construction is complete and in close out. Building 27 Presidents Conference Room Wall Project Construction is complete and in close out. Building 6 Fire Alarm DSA Completion Notification was received June 2, Building 9 Concrete ADA Curb Cuts Construction is complete and in close out. Geo-coil Repairs (Newark) 90 day letter was sent June 2, 2014 All required documents have been uploaded to the DSA Box. Additional fee check has been sent. Certification and Closeout letter is expected in July. Project 9101 Photovoltaic Energy Generating System - Newark All documentation is submitted and DSA closeout is pending. On June 17, 2014, DSA requested additional fees in order to complete their final closeout review. The District is in the process of cutting the check.
