How to reach the goals? Focus on the home market for RE technology Adding knowledge to small and medium sized companies Carry out pilot projects Establish test facilities 11 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Main target areas 1. Strategic leadership 2. Technology Development Programme 3. Improved utilization and integration of electricity from wind power 4. Interactions between energy and environment 5. Test facilities 12 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Strategic leadership Examples of initiatives: Biofuel in public transportation The IBUS test plant production of biofuel from straw and wastes 13 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Strategic leadership Examples of initiatives: RE-towns and RE-municipalities The target of the island of Samsø is 100% RE. 14 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Technology development programme Purpose: Support development processes within manufacturing companies dealing with energy and environmental technology Wave Star Energy test plant 15 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Improved utilization and integration of electricity from wind power Support projects that demonstrate: Flexible power production at combined power- and heating plants Promoting flexible energy consumption for large energy consumers Brædstrup heat and power plant with the worlds largest solar panel 16 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
H 2 example of integration electricity from wind power in transport H 2 Filling stations Electricity Electrolyse 17 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Interaction between energy and environment Support projects that demonstrate: Energy production based on vegetation in wetlands Energy production on the basis of agricultural and industrial waste products Energy production on the basis of energy crops Harvesting energy corps Biogas production plant 18 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Test facilities Developmental projects: Support establishment of test centres for wind power Support establishment of test centre for biomass based energy technology Høvsøre wind power test centre Foulum test centre for biomass energy technology 19 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Subjects for the CPMR to encourage the EU Continue setting out ambitious targets Create incentives for: Further research, development and innovation. Motivating the industries and the member states to enhancing their strategies towards reaching the targets. 20 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Subjects for the CPMR to encourage the EU Climate change and sustainable energy to be a core focus in the review of the EU budget - e.g. the use of the European structural funds. Urge the European Commission to take a leading role in the work towards a new international protocol in the post-kyoto period from 2012, where the EU should set a good example in the battle against climate change. 21 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Subjects for the CPMR to encourage the EU Recognize that maritime an peripheral regions are some of the greatest potential producers of renewable energy, but have to face that there are major problems in transmitting any surplus energy to the more densely populated areas because of lacking infrastructure. Facilitating opening and offering financial resources for energy saving agencies especially in the new member states. 22 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
Copenhagen 2009: World summit to follow up on the Kyoto protocol We hope for a binding world wide agreement on the efforts to meet the challenges of the foreseen near future climate changes. In Central Denmark Region we will do our utmost to act as a window in promoting sustainable technologies and renewable energies in order to reach the agreeable goals. 23 www.regionmidtjylland.dk
