Walk & Bike to School Day events teach kids and parents to think of walking and biking as an active, safe and healthy means of transportation. Whether you walk or bike on your own or join others as part of a walking school bus, always remember safety first. Meaningful Holiday Gifts for Loved Ones that Give Back to Jefferson For the third year, Jefferson is teaming up with Original Works to offer a very special program. Your child will be creating his or her artwork in school, and then you will have the opportunity to order a variety of great items professionally made which features your child s work. These wonderful items can be given as gifts for grandparents, family, and friends or you can purchase them for yourself a plate for special after school treats, a nightlight to light the way, garden flags, computer pads, notebooks and cards. Each item that is purchased will help support your child s curriculum, field trips, and/or the purchase of technology. We will be sending home the art work and order form on October 19, 2015 and orders are due by October 26, 2015. To learn more about the original works program go to www.originalworks.com. For more information contact Lynn Maciver at maciver@bresnan.net or call 459-8164.

Safety & Cold Weather Please note that our playground coverage, on the South playground, begins at 8:00am on school days. Students need to stay out on the South playground until the bell rings at 8:30am, unless they have a pass from a playground teacher We ask that students do not bring in backpacks/lunches early, as we do not have student coverage in the building. The only exceptions are when students need to deposit money into their meal plan account with Mrs. Beatty, or when we have temperatures below zero (actual temperature and/or wind chill). On these very cold days we will open the gym area for students to come in and stay warm. As cold weather is finally finding us, please make sure your child comes to school with appropriate warm weather clothing, including days that rain is in the forecast. Unless we are experiencing heavy rain and/or winds, it is likely that students will remain outside. Thank you! Domino s Pizza Night Students are working hard at Jefferson! One way we support their good work is through classroom-based positive behavior incentive programs which are funded in part by our partnership with Domino s Pizza. Domino s gives us $1.00 per pizza ordered, as well as a class pizza party to the class that purchases the most pizzas! Domino s will afford us four Domino s Pizza Night s this year! Our first Dough Night will be October 21 st! We appreciate your help to support your student s positive behavior and academic excellence! A Note from Our School Counselor: Lunch Club will begin in October! Ms. Simonson and Mrs. Schmidt host Lunch Club on Tuesday(s) for all students (K-5th grade). This is a non-counseling service. It is a great opportunity to join other students in Mrs. Schmidt's classroom for lunch! Social Skills Lesson(s): September- Skills for Learning October- Empathy Throughout the month, I will spend 20-30 minutes with each class teaching social skills lessons in relation to the Second Step Curriculum. During the month of September, students learned the skills for learning. The focus for October is Empathy. I look forward to working with the students. Ms. Simonson 324-2085
