Children will explore the many facets of castles through literature and art. Each child will build and design his/her own castle to be completed over the four-week course. Stories and materials on castles may spark questions about this amazing subject with which young children are enthralled. The completed project can be taken home for display at the end of the program. Please note: all children must be fully potty-trained! Instructor: Karen Hines-Kennedy has been a Roeper teacher for over 20 years. During those years, she has offered many different enrichment classes for children. Her passion for art shines through in the classroom, engaging and exciting young learners throughout the school year. Karen currently teaches Stage I students (preschool) and has taught there for the last 12 years. This enrichment class is designed to help children cultivate a personal sense of health and well-being, while stimulating their creative spirits and playful natures. Children will have fun learning basic yoga postures including cat stretch, downward dog, peaceful warrior, tree, butterfly, cobra, seated twist, boat, bridge and happy baby. Children will discover how to connect with their breath and bring awareness to their own bodies. Through the practice of yoga, children develop increased flexibility, coordination, strength and balance, while learning how to restore emotional calm. Cooperative movement games provide a creative, interactive outlet for children to stretch their imaginations, collaborate with others and engage in safe, non-competitive physical activities. Instructor: Sandy Allen has taught dance, creative movement and yoga to students in preschool through 12 th grade at The Roeper School for 15 years. She is also the director of the Roeper Summer Dance Camp. As a professional dancer, she has performed with both ballet and modern dance companies and choreographed for musical theatre productions. Sandy earned her B.A. from Wayne State University.

We are going to have so much fun traveling the world and learning about the seven continents! This class will make art projects, travel using passports, read books, write stories, etc. Each Saturday will offer new, engaging lessons with corresponding activities. If children have questions or ideas, we will research these and come up with our answers together. Come one, come all, and let the traveling begin! Instructor: This is Sarah Smith s sixth year working at The Roeper School where she s loved teaching Stage II (K/1) children for the last four years. She also serves as the Before-Care Director and Substitute Teaching Coordinator for both campuses. Sarah earned her M.A.Ed. from Oakland University and a B.A. in Elementary Education and English literature from Adrian College. Prior to working at Roeper, Sarah taught kindergarten at a charter school for four years. A In this class, children will explore a variety of computer animation techniques, including classic flip animations and claymations. We will create our own animations using art that the students generate using a computer art program called Pixie. The students will then have the opportunity to create their own claymation using digital photos and an animation program called Frames. Instructors: Julie Nemchik has loved teaching computer classes at The Roeper School for 17 years. She has an M.A.T. in Elementary Education and is a member of the Michigan Association of Computer Users in Learning (MACUL). She is married with two grown children and two cats and loves playing and watching sports. Paula Romano has been teaching computer classes at The Roeper School for 16 years. She has a B.A. in both Physical Health Education and Elementary Education as well as an M.A. in Exercise Science. She has two children, both Roeper alumni (2011 and 2013).
