15 Admissio ad Registratio 2 C H A P T E R ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION ADMISSION INFORMATION Admissio to Ohloe College is ope to ayoe who is a high school graduate, has a high school equivalecy certificate or GED, or is 18 years of age or older. Studets uder 18 years of age qualify for admissio by meetig oe of the followig requiremets: Graduatig from high school. Passig the Califoria High School Proficiecy Examiatio (CHSPE) or Geeral Educatioal Developmet (GED) Examiatio. Meetig the Kidergarte-12th grade admissio requiremets as described o page 17. OPEN ENROLLMENT POLICY Uless specifically exempted by statute, every course, course sectio, or class, the average daily attedace of which is to be reported for state aid, wherever offered ad maitaied by the District, shall be fully ope to erollmet ad participatio by ay perso who has bee admitted to the College ad who meets such prerequisites as may be established pursuat to the Califoria Admiistrative Code, ad shall be held oly i places fully ope to all such persos. STUDENT SUCCESS AND SUPPORT PROGRAM (formerly kow as Matriculatio) The itet of the Studet Success ad Support Program is to icrease studet access ad success through the provisio of core support services, icludig orietatio, assessmet ad placemet, couselig, advisig, educatio plaig services, ad follow-up for at-risk studets. The goal is to provide all studets with the support services ecessary to assist them i achievig their educatioal goal ad declared course of study. All ew studets are expected to participate i each of the compoets uless they: have eared a college degree (associate degree or higher); are erolled i Kidergarte-12th grade while takig Ohloe College courses; are erollig solely to take a course legally madated for employmet or ecessary to meet chaged idustry or licesure stadards; are erollig for a reaso other tha career developmet or advacemet; trasfer; earig a degree or certificate; or completig a Basic Skills or ESL course sequece. Applicatio forms are also available olie via the Ohloe College Web page at www.ohloe.edu/ org/admissios/forms/appforadmissio.pdf, iside each term s Class Schedule, from the Office of Admissios ad Records o the Fremot campus, ad from the Studet Services Ceter o the Newark campus. To be able to register for classes all ew ad former studets i the followig categories must submit a applicatio for admissio: New studets eterig Ohloe College for the first time; Former studets (studets who did ot atted Ohloe College durig the previous Fall or Sprig Semester); All ew or returig iteratioal studets; Kidergarte-12th grade studets seekig special admissio. Studets who atteded Ohloe College durig the previous Fall or Sprig Semester do ot eed to submit a ew applicatio. Per Califoria Code of Regulatios, Kidergarte-12th grade studets are required to submit a ew applicatio every term. Trascripts for Admissio The followig studets are expected to submit official trascripts from all previously atteded istitutios: Applicats to the Registered Nursig, Physical Therapist Assistat, or Respiratory Therapy Programs; Veteras; Iteratioal studets; Studets plaig to trasfer to a baccalaureate college or uiversity; Studets participatig i itercollegiate sports. The applicat is resposible for requestig that official trascripts are mailed directly to the Office of Admissios ad Records. Applicats who have bee out of high school for five years or more do ot eed to submit their high school trascripts. Programs Requirig Special Admissio I additio to the basic requiremets for admissio to Ohloe College, there are specific requiremets for admissio to the Registered Nursig, Respiratory Therapist, ad Physical Therapist Assistat Programs. Admissio criteria may chage periodically ad placemet is limited by space. Ohloe College/Diablo Valley College Cooperative Program i Respiratory Therapy The Respiratory Therapist curriculum is offered by Ohloe College i cooperatio with Diablo Valley College. Residecy Iformatio By state law Ohloe College is required to obtai evidece from studets of physical presece i Califoria ad of their itet to make Califoria their home state for other tha a temporary period. A Califoria residet, for purposes of commuity college admissio, is a perso who has maitaied physical presece i Califoria for at least oe year ad oe day immediately prior to the first day of istructio with the demostrable itet of makig Califoria his or her permaet home. No-residet studets who have atteded three years of high school i Califoria may be eligible for exemptio from o-residet tuitio per AB 540. Due to the complexity of residecy requiremets, studets are ecouraged to cotact the Office of Admissios ad Records at (510) 659-6100 with specific questios. Ohloe College admits ad serves a diverse commuity of iteratioal studets. Ohloe s Iteratioal Programs ad Services Office issues the Immigratio Form I-20 to admitted iteratioal studets. Studets the use the Form I-20 to apply for a F-1 Studet Visa at a U.S. Embassy or Cosulate i their home coutry. Studets curretly studyig o a F-1 Visa at aother school i the Uited States may apply to trasfer to Ohloe College. Iteratioal studet applicatio deadlies are May 31 for the Fall Semester ad October 31 for the Sprig Semester. To be cosidered for admissio, iteratioal studets must submit a completed Iteratioal Studet Applicatio form, ad other required applicatio documets, to the Iteratioal Programs ad Services Office. A score of 57 or higher o the Iteret-based Test (ibt) or 490 o the Paper-based Test (PBT) is required. Group health isurace coverage is provided, ad a group health isurace fee i the amout of $368.67 per semester is assessed to all full-time F-1 Visa-holdig iteratioal studets of Ohloe College who are ieligible to opt-out of this isurace coverage. Eglish Laguage Istitute (ELI) Iteratioal studets who are ot yet proficiet eough i Eglish to gai direct admissio to a Ohloe College degree program may wish to first joi the Ohloe College Eglish Laguage Istitute (ELI). The ELI is a full-time, itesive Eglish laguage program desiged for o-ative speakers of Eglish who have or wish to obtai a F-1 Studet Visa. Studets who apply to the ELI ad who wish to later joi a degree program may be coditioally admitted by Ohloe College. Special Studet Admissio Kidergarte-12th Grade Studets The term special admissio applies to studets who are curretly erolled i Kidergarte-12th grade. These studets may eroll i Ohloe College courses that are UC ad/or CSU trasferable o a space available basis. PE ad ATHL classes are ot available for ay Kidergarte-12th grade studet erollmet. Kidergarte-12th grade studets must also meet ay ad all course prerequisites to be eligible for erollmet; for courses i Eglish ad Math this usually requires that the studet take a Ohloe Placemet Test. Per Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios Kidergarte-12th grade coursework may ot be used to waive college prerequisites. Paretal ad pricipal or school official approval is also required. Kidergarte-12th grade studets are exempt from payig the Califoria Commuity College Erollmet Fee but are subject to the Electroic Access Fee, Health Services Fee, ad the optioal Studet Activities Fee, uless all classes are off campus. All Kidergarte-12th grade studets are required to submit a ew applicatio packet every term. I 2012, the Califoria Commuity Colleges ad Califoria State Uiversity lauched the ew Associate Degree for Trasfer program that simplifies the studet trasfer process betwee the two systems. The iitiative geerates approximately $160 millio aually i cost savigs ad those savigs provide access to 40,000 additioal commuity college studets ad early 14,000 Califoria State Uiversity studets each year. No applicatios for Kidergarte-9th studets will be accepted after the deadlie posted for each term. All tests are computerized ad ot timed. The placemet tests are ot pass or fail tests ad are ot used to exclude studets from admissio to Ohloe. The placemet tests attempt to properly place studets i readig, writig, ad mathematics courses. The tests also idetify prerequisite preparatio (courses required before takig aother course). Ultimate placemet is ofte based o multiple criteria measures. Couselors ca also review other factors such as previous coursework ad ay other appropriate iformatio i order to place studets ito courses. Studets are required to preset official trascripts to a Ohloe College couselor to demostrate course completio. Studets who are exempt from placemet testig must see a Ohloe couselor i order to complete a Studet Success (matriculatio) waiver form. ESL placemet testig icludes Orietatio ad academic advisig. Studets are expected to stay for the etire placemet process, which is approximately 4½ hours. The ESL placemet test icludes writig a essay o a assiged topic, a listeig comprehesio test, ad readig ad grammar tests. Math tests are ot offered durig ESL testig; studets who eed to take a Math placemet test should refer to the Math Placemet Test iformatio. No study guides, calculators, dictioaries, or other study aids are allowed durig the test. The Class Schedule is made available olie via WebAdvisor (https://webadvisor.ohloe.edu) ad prited copies are available for purchase from the Ohloe Bookstore i Buildig 5 o the Fremot campus. Applicatio ad registratio procedures, academic caledar dates, ad geeral iformatio are also available o the Admissios ad Records Web site (www.ohloe.edu/ org/admissios). Schedule for Registratio Cotiuig studets are assiged the earliest registratio times ad receive a registratio appoitmet based o havig a declared academic program (major) ad by the umber of Ohloe uits eared toward that program. Registratio appoitmets are e-mailed to studets prior to the start of registratio. New ad former studets receive the ext opportuity to register but do ot receive specific appoitmets. New ad former studets caot register for classes util they have completed the admissio process. 10th-12th grade studets will be able to register for classes approximately two weeks before the start of the term. 10th-12th grade studets caot register for classes util they have completed the admissio process. Kidergarte-9th grade studets receive the last opportuity to register, startig the first day of the term. Registratio Procedures Studets should acquait themselves with Ohloe College registratio policies by studyig the iformatio i this Catalog, the Class Schedule, ad registratio materials supplied by the Office of Admissios ad Records. Registratio dates are published i the Academic Caledar i the Class Schedule ad olie at www.ohloe.edu/org/admissios/academiccaledar.html, ad o the Admissios ad Records Web page (www.ohloe.edu/org/admissios). Studets register for classes olie via WebAdvisor (https://webad visor.ohloe.edu). Registratio by proxy is permissible with writte permissio from the studet. Erollmet will ot be allowed i a o-repeatable course that was previously completed with a grade of C or better. Erollmets will also ot be allowed i a course that has already bee repeated the maximum times allowed, per Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios. All repeat policies are eforced through WebAdvisor ad studets will be blocked from registerig for courses whe the maximum umber of erollmets has already bee attaied. A course with a letter grade, icludig a W, couts as a erollmet. Per 58161 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, effective Summer 2012 a course with a letter grade, icludig a W, couts as a erollmet. If a studet receives a substadard grade (D, F, NP) at Ohloe the studet will be allowed to eroll i that same course agai i order to successfully complete the course. A studet will be allowed three attempts, icludig W s, to complete the course. The third erollmet i the course at Ohloe will become the fial erollmet at Ohloe, regardless of the grade eared by the studet. Oce the course is completed with a satisfactory grade (A, B, C, or P) the course caot be take agai at Ohloe. For example: Durig Fall 2013 a studet received a W i ENGL- 101A. Durig Sprig 2014 the same studet received a F i ENGL-101A. Registerig for Courses with Prerequisites May courses have prerequisites that must be successfully completed prior to erollmet. Studets registerig for courses that require prerequisites will be allowed to register for the course durig the term they are erolled i the prerequisite course, eve though fial grades have ot yet bee posted. However, oce fial grades are posted, studets must have completed the prerequisite course with a grade of C or better or they will be dropped from the course. Studets will ot be able to register for classes for which Ohloe does ot have record that they have successfully completed the course prerequisites. Per Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, Kidergarte-12th grade classes caot be used to meet college prerequisites. Prerequisites Take at Aother College or Uiversity Studets who have completed the course prerequisite at aother college or uiversity must speak to a couselor (Buildig 7, third floor o the Fremot campus or at the Studet Services Ceter i Room NC1312 o the Newark campus) about gettig the prerequisite waived before the studet will be able to register for the course. The couselor will eed to review the studet s trascript. If the couselor determies that the studet has successfully met the course prerequisites the the couselor will approve a waiver ad the studet will be able to register olie via WebAdvisor. Waitlistig Waitlistig is a way to electroically stad i lie for a filled class. Durig the registratio period studets may place themselves o waitlists for specific classes that are filled. Whe a class is filled, studets will be asked o WebAdvisor if they wat to add to the waitlist. If space becomes available i the class, studets o the waitlist will be added to the class ad otified by e-mail if they are added ito the class from the waitlist. Studets are added to the class from the waitlist i the order they were added o the waitlist. Studets may check their status o the waitlist via their WebAdvisor accout. There is o guaratee that studets o a waitlist will be added ito the class. Studets who have errors prevetig registratio such as a outstadig balace, umet prerequisites, coflicts with aother class, or overload issues will ot be added ito a class from the waitlist eve if space is available i the class. These studets will remai o the waitlist eve if space becomes available i the class util the error prevetig registratio is corrected. Studets are restricted from waitlistig for more tha oe sectio of a class (for example, waitlistig for both ENGL-101A-01 ad ENGL-101A-02). While WebAdvisor will allow studets to waitlist for a differet sectio of a class i which they are already registered, studets will ot be added ito the waitlisted class as log as they are already registered i aother sectio of the same class. The studet will eed to drop the registered class i order to be added ito the waitlisted class. Studets eed to atted the first class sessio of ay class for which they are still o a waitlist, as waitlisted studets who do ot atted the first class sessio may ot be added to the class from the waitlist by the istructor, eve if space is available i the class. Studets who decide ot to take a class they have waitlisted eed to drop themselves from the waitlist, as they will be subject to ay fees ad grades for classes i which they are registered from the waitlist. Studets are added ito classes from the waitlist through the date o the Academic Caledar i the Class Schedule ad o the Admissios ad Records Web page (www.ohloe.edu/org/admissios/academiccaledar.html). After that date studets may oly add full-term classes by obtaiig a add authorizatio code from the istructor. Studets are resposible for registerig themselves i classes via WebAdvisor with the add authorizatio code. Studets should refer to the Academic Caledar i the Class Schedule ad o the Admissios ad Records Web page (www.ohloe.edu/org/admissios/ academiccaledar.html) for more iformatio regardig registratio deadlies. Go to the Registratio sectio o the left side. 6. Click o Register for Sectios. 7. Click o Express Registratio if you already kow the exact class(es) you wat to take. 8. Eter the syoym i the first colum o the left ad the term i the last colum o the right. Example: To register for ENGL-101A-01 durig Fall Semester (01) 060123 R. Mitchell TTh 8/25/14-12/12/14 7:00am-8:35am FP-7 Eter the Syoym (the six-digit umber), 060123 i this example, i the first colum o the left. The eter the term, 2014 Fall Term, i the last colum o the right. Click Submit ad remember to complete step 9 below. 9. Choose Register from the Actio drop-dow box i the first colum o the left (other possible actios are Remove from List or Waitlist). The click Submit. 10. Choose Waitlist from the Actio drop-dow box if the class is full ad you wat to add yourself to the waitlist, which is a way to electroically stad i lie for a full class. The click Submit. Studets caot register before their scheduled registratio time. If there is a error prevetig registratio such as eedig to submit a ew applicatio, umet prerequisites, time coflicts, uit overload issues, or a outstadig balace, a error message will appear at the top of the WebAdvisor scree, above where it says UNSUCCESSFUL REGISTRATION. Studets may call Admissios ad Records at (510) 659-6100 or e-mail admissios@ohloe.edu for help uderstadig a error message. Forgot Your Password or User ID? Studets who have forgotte their WebAdvisor password should go to WebAdvisor (https://web advisor.ohloe.edu) ad click o I Forgot My WebAdvisor Password. Studets will the be directed to a Web page where they will be requested to eter their Ohloe ID, first ame, last ame, birthdate, ad zip code. If the aswer etered for the security questio does ot match the studet record, studets will be able to click o a box labeled Reset Questio ad Aswer. A email will be set to the email address o the studet record, with a lik that will allow studets to reset their security questio ad aswer. Studets will the be able to create a ew security questio ad aswer; be sure to provide a security questio ad aswer that ca be easily remembered. After a ew security questio ad aswer are successfully chose, studets will be directed to create a ew password. Studets who have forgotte their WebAdvisor User Name should go to WebAdvisor (https://web advisor.ohloe.edu) ad click o What Is My WebAdvisor User Name? Studets will be prompted to eter their last ame ad Studet ID. After clickig o the Submit butto the WebAdvisor User Name will appear.
