1 39 Degree, Certificate, ad Trasfer Iformatio 6 C H A P T E R DEGREE, CERTIFICATE, AND TRANSFER INFORMATION Successful completio of approved programs at Ohloe College may lead a Associate i Arts for Trasfer or Associate i Sciece for Trasfer (ADT) degree; a Associate i Arts (AA) or Associate i Sciece (AS) degree; a Certificate of Achievemet or a Certificate of Accomplishmet i a specified occupatioal field; completio of lower divisio (freshma ad sophomore) requiremets for trasfer to upper divisio (juior) stadig at a baccalaureate college or uiversity. Although these objectives are listed separately, it is possible to achieve multiple goals cocurretly durig the freshma ad sophomore years of college. For example, it is possible to use the coursework completed for a certificate program as a major for a associate degree. Similarly, studets completig lower divisio requiremets for trasfer to a baccalaureate college or uiversity will fid it possible to meet the requiremets for a associate degree from Ohloe College. It is importat for studets to declare a academic program as early as possible i their academic career, but o later tha by the time that 15 degree-applicable uits are completed. Studets must have a declared program to be eligible to receive fiacial aid, ad those who have declared programs are give earlier registratio appoitmets. Studets may declare multiple programs ad may chage their declared program at ay time; however, o studet should remai udeclared after completig 15 degree-applicable uits. Studets ca declare or chage a academic program by submittig a Chage of Major form to the Office of Admissios ad Records o the Fremot campus or the Studet Services Ceter o the Newark campus. A Chage of Major form is available olie at TRANSFER CREDIT FROM ANOTHER INSTITUTION Ohloe College accepts credit for lower divisio coursework previously completed at a college accredited by oe of the six regioal accreditig associatios. Studets must have official trascripts set to the Office of Admissios ad Records o the Fremot campus. To be official, the trascripts must be set from college to college or be had-delivered i a sealed, uopeed college or uiversity evelope. A Ohloe couselor will review the coursework to determie how it may be applied to the comprehesive Studet Educatio Pla. Studets may meet with a Ohloe couselor to petitio for idividual courses completed at o-regioally accredited colleges to be accepted for major requiremets. The credit is o-trasferable toward a bachelor s degree. Studets who wat to use coursework completed at a foreig istitutio must have their trascripts evaluated by a approved foreig evaluatio service. Studets must meet with a couselor to petitio to use ay of this coursework toward the associate degree. Coursework from a foreig istitutio caot be used to certify CSU GE or IGETC.

I additio to these accomplishmets, studets shall possess sufficiet depth i some field of kowledge to cotribute to lifetime iterest. Studets are provided with several optios for fulfillig the requiremets for a associate degree at Ohloe. Each optio is desiged to meet specific educatioal goals. It is imperative for studets to meet early ad ofte with a couselor to both pla ad maitai their educatioal pla. The four categories of majors ad three patters of geeral educatio are described below ad ca be combied to meet various educatioal goals. Studets are eligible for graduatio upo the completio of a geeral educatio patter, a major, ad a accumulative total of 60 semester uits i degreeapplicable courses with a miimum of a C (2.0) grade poit average (GPA) ad with a miimum grade of C i all courses i the major field (icludig major field electives ad supportig courses). Multidiscipliary Majors Studets may fulfill a major i oe of five geeral areas (Busiess, Liberal Arts, Fie Arts, Natural Sciece, or Social Sciece) by completig a miimum of uits selected from the desigated departmets ad courses listed i the Curriculum Guides i this catalog. Upo verified completio of these uits; the geeral educatio requiremets specific for Ohloe College (Pla A), CSU GE (Pla B), or IGETC (Pla C); ad ay ecessary elective requiremets, studets will be awarded a Associate i Arts degree i the specified area. Associate Degree for Trasfer to CSU (ADT) Califoria Commuity Colleges are ow offerig associate degrees for trasfer to the CSU. These iclude Associate i Arts for Trasfer or Associate i Sciece for Trasfer degrees. These degrees are desiged to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major ad baccalaureate degree. Califoria Commuity College studets who are awarded a ADT degree are guarateed admissio with juior stadig somewhere i the CSU system ad give priority admissio cosideratio to their local CSU campus or to a program that is deemed similar to their commuity college major. While the core courses required i these degrees for studets itedig to trasfer fulfill may of the lower divisio requiremets, studets are advised to meet with a couselor to assess the course requiremets for specific uiversities. Upo verified completio of graduatio requiremets, the major will appear o the studet s permaet record, all trascripts, ad o the diploma. Please see the Catalog Rights Policy o page 37 for iformatio regardig which catalog year studets may use to satisfy graduatio requiremets. Whichever catalog year is selected, all graduatio requiremets must be completed withi that year. Of the 60 semester uits required for graduatio, 12 semester uits must be completed at Ohloe College. A Graduatio Applicatio must be submitted o later tha the deadlie posted o the Academic Caledar i the semester i which the studet expects to complete requiremets. Associate Degree for Trasfer to CSU The Studet Trasfer Achievemet Reform Act (Seate Bill 1440, ow codified i Califoria Code of Regulatios sectios ) guaratees admissio to a Califoria State Uiversity (CSU) campus for ay commuity college studet who completes a associate degree for trasfer, a ewly established variatio of the associate degrees traditioally offered at a Califoria commuity college. The Associate i Arts for Trasfer or the Associate i Sciece for Trasfer (ADT) is iteded for studets who pla to complete a bachelor s degree i a similar major at a CSU campus. Studets completig these degrees are guarateed admissio to the CSU system, but ot to a particular campus or major. I order to ear oe of these degrees, studets must complete 60 required semester uits of CSU-trasferable coursework with a miimum GPA of 2.0. While a miimum GPA of 2.0 is required for admissio, some majors may require a higher GPA. The associate degree for trasfer may ot be the best optio for studets itedig to trasfer to a particular CSU campus or to a uiversity or college that is ot part of the CSU system. Geeral Educatio: Califoria State Uiversity Geeral Educatio Breadth Requiremets (CSU GE; Pla B) The Califoria State Uiversity (CSU GE; Pla B) Geeral Educatio patter requires a miimum of 39 semester uits i completig a specific CSUapproved Geeral Educatio patter. This optio is especially for studets whose immediate goal is to trasfer to a CSU. The Califoria State Uiversity (CSU GE; Pla B) patter is recommeded for studets completig a associate degree ad it eables studets to meet lower divisio geeral educatio requiremets at a CSU. Califoria State Uiversity (CSU GE; Pla B) may also be coupled with either the trasfer or occupatioal majors; however, studets may be required to complete more tha 60 semester uits to obtai a associate degree. Geeral Educatio: Reciprocity with Commuity Colleges The Ohloe Commuity College District has etered ito a mutual agreemet with ie other local commuity colleges to accept the Geeral Educatio of these colleges as completed. The participatig colleges are Chabot (Hayward), De Aza College (Cupertio), Evergree Valley College (Sa Jose), Foothill College (Los Altos Hills), Gavila College (Gilroy), Las Positas College (Livermore), Missio College (Sata Clara), Sa Jose City College (Sa Jose), ad West Valley College (Saratoga). Therefore, studets who obtai a certificatio of completio of Associate Degree Geeral Educatio or who complete a associate degree at ay oe of the participatig colleges will have both their Geeral Educatio coursework ad graduatio proficiecies accepted as completed at ay of the participatig colleges. Certificate of Achievemet Certificates of Achievemet are awarded for the completio of a orgaized series of courses i a particular emphasis area. These certificates have bee approved by the Ohloe Curriculum Committee, Ohloe Commuity College District Board of Trustees, ad the Califoria Commuity Colleges Chacellor s Office. Certificates of Achievemet cosist of 18 or more semester uits. Geerally, these certificates parallel the major course of study withi a occupatioal associate degree program. Thus, a studet ofte has the optio of completig the additioal geeral educatio, elective, ad supportig course requiremets to complete a associate degree as well. A Certificate of Achievemet will be grated to a studet who meets the followig requiremets: 1. Maitais a C (2.00) grade poit average i the specified courses. 2. Completes satisfactorily a specific curriculum or recogized sequece of courses as prescribed by selected faculty ad/or a occupatioal advisory committee; ad approved by the Ohloe Curriculum Committee, Ohloe Commuity College District Board of Trustees; ad Califoria Commuity Colleges Chacellor s Office; ad published i the applicable curriculum guide. 3. IGETC is desiged for use by Califoria commuity college studets.
