Transition Program Kindergarten 2016 Watching the students in Kindergarten 2015 settle into their classes and school life so quickly, gives me confidence to say that our Kindergarten Transition program was a success. Kindergarten teachers are excited to see the program take place again in 2016. Sanctuary Point Public School is offering a series of transition visits for children starting Kindergarten in 2016. These visits will begin on Monday 1 st June and run until Wednesday 25 th November 2015. Visits will run once a week, however the days will vary to accommodate children who attend pre-school on different days and parents availability. Some children may come on more than one day, as repetition is a good thing when experiencing something new. These visits are designed to foster familiarity with Sanctuary Point Public School and its facilities. Students will start off with a walk around the school, to book reading in the library and learn a bit about BYOLD (Bring Your Own Learning Device) to school as they are now being used and encouraged in every classroom on a daily basis. Students will then build up to spending time in the Kindergarten rooms, Th@t space (technology room), learn how to order lunch and a play in the Kindergarten-Yr 2 playground zone during lunch time. The children will encouraged to use the toilets and bubblers, which we take for granted but can be a worry for young children in such a large environment. We will have question time so the pre-school children can ask Kindergarten students about big school. We would encourage parents to attend with their child/ren if possible during these visits. Amber Grainger School Community Liaison Officer Phone: 4443 0546 Fax: 4443 7036 E-mail: amber.grainger1@det.nsw.edu.au Web: www.sanctuarypointps.com.au Please LIKE our Facebook page or get our free skoolbag app on your phone to keep up to date just what our school gets up to.

Transition Rotation Start of first rotation Monday 1st June 10.30 Arrive at school under the COLA to meet myself (Amber) and some Year 4 students. With their help, we will take the children on a tour of the school. On our walk, we will show children where the boys and girls toilets are, how to use a school bubbler, location of the front office, the hall, school canteen, oval, play equipment and basketball court. Once back at the COLA, the school web address www.sanctuarypointps.com.au will be given out so that children with their parents/preschool can go to the website on computers/devices/smartboard to play a matching game about the school on a link provided. This can be located in the school transition, preschool section. While parents are on the school website have a look at the other suggested links and information to help the smooth transition to Kindergarten in 2016. 11.15 Our bell (buzzer) sounds for lunch. Once the children have heard the bell we can make our way back to pre-school or home (students are sitting eating their lunch at this time). Tuesday 9th June - Same as above Wednesday 17th June Same as above Thursday 25nd June Same as above Monday 29 th June to Friday 10 th July School holidays Friday 17 th July Same as above

Start of second rotation Monday 20 th July 10.30 Arrive at Sanctuary Point Public School and assemble at the undercover area (COLA), from there we will escort those that have arrived, to the school library. The children can meet Mrs Ryan our librarian and look around the library. Mrs Ryan will tell the children about the library and how it works. A story book will be selected and read to the children. Different types of technology and BYOLD (bring your own learning device) will be introduced to the children that they can use. BYOLD is now encouraged for every student every day to use in classrooms as an excellent teaching resource. We will have a few Kindergarten students come down to show some of their work and answer any questions that the children may have about starting school. At the end of this visit, an activity will be shown on our schools website that will be accessible for everyone to do at preschool or at home. www.sanctuarypointps.com.au 11.10 We will leave the library and go back up to the COLA. Being familiar with the COLA area is important as lining up and weekly assemblies happen here. Students can then return to pre-school or home. Tuesday 28th July Same as above Wednesday 5th August Same as above Thursday 13th August Same as above Friday 21 st August Same as above

Start of third rotation (Please bring a packed lunch) Monday 24th August 10.30 Meeting at the COLA again. This time we will make our way up to Miss Thorpe s Kindergarten classroom (Guraban). We will then have some fun doing PMP in the COLA/hall to experience just one of the programs that Kindergarten participate in. 11.15 - The bell rings.
