COLLIN COLLEGE DIVISION OF FINE ARTS COURSE SYLLABUS Course Information Course Number: ARTC 1325 Course Title: Introduction to Computer Graphics Course Description: A survey of computer design concepts, terminology, processes, and procedures. Topics include computer graphics hardware, electronic images, electronic publishing, vector-based graphics, and interactive multimedia. Lab required. Course Credit Hours: 3 Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 4 Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following: Define computer terminology (SCANS: F1, F2, F4, F16, C11, C15) Identify peripherals (SCANS: F1, F2, F4, F16, C15) Demonstrate page layout, multimedia, and peripherals software use (SCANS: F1, F3, F6, F7, F8, F9, F11, F12, F13, F14, F15, F16, C1, C3, C11, C12, C13, C14, C15, C18, C19) Secretary s Commission on the Acquisition of Necessary Skills (SCANS)- SCANS skills are a group of foundational skills and workplace competencies that the Secretary s Commission on the Acquisition of Necessary Skills established as vitally important for workplace success in the 21 st century. In Collin s workforce programs, the SCANS skills are developed and reinforced throughout the curriculum to provide students with an opportunity to hone these skills/competencies in the context of their education. Over the course of an entire degree program, the successful student is expected to demonstrate all of the SCANS skills and competencies as part of their education. Each exercises and assignments will require extensive lab time and some outside work. All work will be graded considering the following: Ability to follow instructions and apply material learned Assignment Value: There will be a total of 900 points attainable during the semester as follows: - 5 Computer Graphics Projects (100 pts each) - 2 Quizzes - (100 pts.ea) - Class participation 100 pts Participation includes Grade Scale: A/4 Excellent 100-90% / 900-800 pts. B/3 Above Average 89-80% / 799-700 pts C/2 Average 79-70% / 699-600 pts D/1 Below Average 69-60% / 599-500 pts F/0 Failure 59-0% / 499-0 pts class attendance, discussions, and reviews W Withdraw - In-Class work 100 pts. In-class exercises, lab work I Incomplete (Incomplete only given with due cause) 2 / 5

Late assignments will be dropped one (1) letter grade. Incompletion of an assignment s due stage can relate to a deduction of a letter grade for each infraction. ATTENDANCE POLICY: Your attendance is expected at every class. It is the single greatest predictor of success. Absences may reflect in your grade due to the lab nature of the course and the one-on-one instruction involved. It is the student s responsibility to inform the instructor regarding absences or conflicts. It is advised that students take a proactive approach by contacting their instructor as soon as possible, if possible before absence. The next class is too late. Whether an absence is considered excused will be determined on an independent basis. In short, absences are ill advised. It is the student s responsibility to maintain their course work during absence(s). If and when possible the students should make arrangements with instructor to insure appropriate progress is made.
