RATIONALE: This course develops students abilities to apply accounting knowledge to a computerized environment using a hands-on approach. It augments not only their practical accounting skills but also computer knowledge, thus enhancing their value to current or prospective employers. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers small business accounting using QuickBooks software. Topics include creating a chart of accounts, recording customer and vendor transactions, processing payroll, and printing reports. Each chapter will be handled according to the best learning situation for the topic and the individual student. Demonstrations/Lectures Class discussion Hands-on computer work Textbooks readings Handout materials Videos Internet activities METHOD OF EVALUATION: Grade Distribution: Chapters 1-11: Printouts of chapter, end-of-chapter exercises and projects (30 points each) 330 Cases: Case 9 and 10 (50 points each) 100 Case Multiple choice study guides (25 points each) 300 Online quizzes (chapters 1-12, 10 points each) 120 Attendance 100 Exams 100 Final Project/Exam 200 Total Points Possible: 1275 Maximum scale for grade distribution: = A = B = C = D 59 below = F COURSE REQUIREMENTS: This is a one semester course. You will need to plan time outside of class to complete the required assignments. ASSIGNMENT POLICY: All assignments must be handed in by the due date. Homework problems will give you the practice necessary to learn the materials. Make sure you have committed enough time each week to this
4 AC219 QuickBooks 4 course. Please come to class with the assignments completed. Late assignments, without a medical or instructor approved excuse, will receive a 20% penalty per day. TEST POLICY: Examinations will be announced and the format of each exam will be explained. Makeup tests will only be given by special arrangement. ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance is an important part of this class! You will be expected to be in class at your enrolled time. Attendance will affect your grade. In-class assignments will be completed and turned in on the day assigned. If you miss class, these assignments will not be accepted for credit. Attendance will be taken daily and it is your responsibility to be in class on time. Pop quizzes will be given in the first five minutes as well, so if you are late you also miss a grade. Colby Community College views class attendance as a mandatory activity. Students are expected to attend classes in which they are enrolled. If you are sick, you are encouraged to visit the Health Center. It is your responsibility to notify me of any absence due to illness or any other reason. 5 AC219 QuickBooks 5 The following procedure will be used for students who violate the policy: First Offense Student will receive a zero for the assignment and the student will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs. Second Offense The student will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs and removed from the class. Third Offense The student will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs and dismissed from the college. Any questions about this policy may be referred to the Dean of Academic Affairs. CELL PHONE POLICY: It is your choice to be in this class. If you choose to come to class, the instructor and fellow students demand your attention and respect. Cell phone usage, including text messaging, ipod usage, or usage of any other electronic device is not allowed in class. Any student who cannot meet these expectations will be asked to leave the classroom and will be counted absent for that day.
