Hariri School of Nursing Faculty of Medicine In collaboration with the at the (AUBMC) and Clinical and Professional Development Center (CPDC) BASICS IN PALLIATIVE AND END-OF-LIFE CARE 2 Overview The Basics in Palliative and End-of-Life Care workshop will equip all healthcare professionals in Lebanon and the region with the attitudes, knowledge and skills that lead to an early identification and meticulous assessment in treating pain. Purpose The purpose of this workshop is to improve the quality of life for patients (adults and children) and their families facing life threatening illnesses. Location and Date The lectures will be held on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Hisham Jaroudi Auditorium, Hariri School of Nursing (AUBMC) Objectives At the end of this activity, the attendees will be able to: Describe the gaps, elements and models of end-of-life care, and identify the related legal issues. Explain the principles of pain management, and evaluate and treat other common symptoms, including dyspnea, nausea and vomiting, constipation, depression, anxiety, and delirium. Describe strategies to address requests for physician assisted suicide, sudden illness, medical futility, withholding/withdrawing treatment. Deliver bad news to patients and families effectively and compassionately. Identify approaches to effective communication, goals of care, advance care planning and whole patient palliative needs assessment for the patient and the caregiver. Expand pediatric palliative care for children and their families. Nursing Services Clinical and Professional Development Center is accredited as

Enhance the quality of ethical, effective and efficient care at the end of life for any patient. Prepare health professionals in Lebanon and the region to relief the suffering of patients and their families both physically and psychologically. Target Audience The course is designed for all healthcare professionals in Lebanon and the region. Accreditation This activity complies with the Order of Nurses in Lebanon (ONL) and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Grantor Acknowledgement This activity is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Mayna-Med and New Bridge Pharmaceuticals. Requirements for successful completion of the workshop Attend all the sessions included in the workshop outline and sign Educational Activity Attendance Record. Fill Continuing Education Record: Personal Verification of Attendance. Attend posttest and score a minimum of 70%.
