HOW TO REMOTELY CONNECT TO THE FIU NETWORK VIA VPN FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY HERBERT WERTHEIM COLLEGE OF MEDICINE OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 S. W. 8 th St., AHC2 358, Miami FL 33199 Tel: 305.348.4843 Fax: 305.348.0123 medicine.fiu.edu Created: June 27, 2013 Last Updated: July 2, 2013

This document provides instructions on how to remotely connect to the FIU network using the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is used to allow FIU users, both on and off campus, connection to the FIU network through a Secure Socket Layer protocol. This will allow you to access all of your programs, files, and network resources (e.g., Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Lync) as if you were actually connected to the FIU network on campus. IMPORTANT NOTES: This document is intended to be used as a guide for students, faculty, and staff in Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM). An active Internet connection is required. These instructions demonstrate how to remotely connect to the FIU network using the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client on your assigned HWCOM computer. Page 2 of 9

STEP I: CONNECT TO THE FIU NETWORK USING THE CISCO ANYCONNECT SECURE MOBILITY CLIENT Note: An active Internet connection is required. Verify that your computer is connected to the Internet. Perform the following tasks: 1. On the Desktop, select the Start menu on the bottom left of the task bar. 2. Select All Programs. Page 3 of 9

3. Select the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to open the program. 4. Under Ready to connect, enter vpn.fiu.edu in the text box. Select Connect. Page 4 of 9

5. After connecting to vpn.fiu.edu, enter your FIU AD Username and Password. Select OK. Note: Your FIU AD credentials are the same credentials you use to login to your work computer or FIU email account. 6. If you accept the terms and conditions set forth by FIU, select Accept. Page 5 of 9

7. Please wait for the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to establish a VPN session. Note: The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client will disappear in less than 30 seconds if it can successfully authenticate and connect to the FIU network. If the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client displays an error message, close the program, restart your computer, and repeat STEP I. If connection issues persist, please contact the FIU HWCOM IT Department to resolve this issue. 8. If a Security Alert Window displays, select Yes. 9. The following message should display if the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client successfully connected to the FIU network: Page 6 of 9

STEP II: CISCO NAC AGENT AUTHENTICATION AND ACCESS Perform the following tasks: 1. For your computer to receive full FIU network access, please wait until the Cisco NAC Agent Window displays Full Network Access (the NAC process should take less than one minute). Select OK. 2. If you received the following Cisco NAC Agent Window instead of the previous one, update your computer s operating system as soon as possible. Select Continue (select Continue only once even though it appears that no action has been performed). Note: After the NAC process is complete, your computer should display the previous window in Task 1. Page 7 of 9

STEP III: DISCONNECT FROM THE FIU NETWORK USING THE CISCO ANYCONNECT SECURE MOBILITY CLIENT Perform the following tasks: 1. In the notification area, right-click on the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client icon. 2. Select VPN Disconnect. 3. To verify, hover your mouse over the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client icon in the notification area. The program should display a disconnected message. Page 8 of 9
