2 General Information Conference description and goals Mayo Continuing Nursing Education is pleased to present an important conference planned by and for all advanced practice nurses. This conference offers a unique opportunity to affirm common roots across advanced practice nursing roles. It is designed to address issues around advanced nursing practice related to care of patients of all ages. This year s conference will focus on clinical topics specific to advanced nursing practice with tracks designed for clinical nurse specialists, adult and pediatric nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and certified nurse midwives. The goals of the conference are to: Identify resources to assist advanced practice nurses in serving patients and families throughout their life spans and in different settings. Explore holistic wellness practices for self-care and for engaging in conversations with patients. Describe strategies for alleviating the impact of a critical event. Provide educational and networking opportunities for advanced practice nurses. Date and location The conference will be held Thursday and Friday, April 9-10, 2015, in the Siebens Building, Mayo Clinic, 100 Second Avenue SW, Rochester, Minnesota. Intended audience The conference is designed for adult and pediatric advanced practice nurses, including nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, certified nurse midwives, physician assistants, students, and other healthcare professionals. Exhibits Nationally known companies will display the latest in medical products, pharmaceuticals, and services. You will have opportunities on Thursday, April 9, 2015 to visit the exhibits, interact with representatives, enjoy refreshments, and network with colleagues. Poster session Posters will be presented on Friday, April 10, Nursing colleagues will share innovative ideas, nursing research, and practice issues over breakfast and breaks. Continuing education credit Mayo Continuing Nursing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Participants can earn up to ANCC nursing contact hours for attendance at the conference and completion of the evaluation.
3 Registration Deadline: Thursday, March 19, 2015 Conference registration fee: $250 Registrations received after March 19, 2015, will be accepted on a space-available basis. The registration fee includes all conference materials, breakfast, break refreshments, and lunch on both days. Registrations cannot be shared. Visit to register. Out of respect for conference participants, children are restricted from the conference. Cancellations If you cancel your participation in this conference, your registration fee, less an administrative fee, will be refunded when notification is received by Mayo Continuing Nursing Education by Thursday, March 19, 2015 (fax#: or [email protected]). No refunds will be made on or after March 19, Mayo Continuing Nursing Education reserves the right to cancel or postpone any conference due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event Mayo Continuing Nursing Education must cancel or postpone this conference, Mayo Continuing Nursing Education will refund the registration fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline/travel/lodging agencies. Featured Faculty Maria van Pelt, CRNA, MSA, MSN, PhD(c) is currently a PhD candidate in Nursing at Villanova University. Her current research interest is the aftermath of perioperative catastrophes on nurse anesthetists and the impact on patient safety and provider wellness. She is on the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) Executive Committee, Board of Directors and the Committee for Education and Training. She has served on the AANA Wellness Committee and is the current Chair of the Massachusetts Association of Nurse Anesthetists Wellness Committee. She was named the 2012 AANA Foundation Doctoral Fellow and selected for the 2012 Kay Wagner Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists Practice & Research Doctoral Fellowship. She recently graduated from the American Hospital Association/National Patient Safety Foundation Patient Safety/Leadership Fellowship Ms. Van Pelt was the Program Director for the University of PA Nurse Anesthesia Program until 2012 and is currently the Team Leader for the Neurosurgery, Vascular & Thoracic Departments at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care & Pain Medicine. Cassie Weness, RD, LD, received a Bachelor of Science in food and nutrition and a minor in health education from North Dakota State University. Prior to joining Nutritional Weight & Wellness in 2007, she worked as a nutrition counselor at Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists, P.A. where she specialized in nutrition for pregnancy, diabetes, obesity, cholesterol and other women s health needs. Ms. Weness experience also includes being a nutrition educator for the Missouri Beef Industry Council; nutrition instructor at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts; and Diabetes Specialist for Eli Lilly & Company helping educate healthcare professionals. She resides in Otsego, Minnesota, with her husband and 2 children.
