12 Security, Interference and RF (radio frequency) The DuraFon uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology at 902 to 928MHZ. WiFi networks use 2.4GHZ and 5.8GHZ, so our system will not interfere with WiFi networks Maximum output power is approximately 700mW on both handset and base. It auto-adjusts down when it is not needed to a minimum of 76mW (handset) Nothing is sold in the USA with this much power and range without a license. Why does EnGenius use 900Mhz? Contrary to common belief, range is actually better at lower frequencies. Lower frequencies are less absorbed by objects and less affected by walls, buildings, trees, and even open air. Additionally, we use 900MHZ to avoid the sharing of WiFi networks, which would not only cause interference, but also reduce range for our system as well. Thirdly, the FCC allows more power to be used at lower frequencies because lower frequencies are safer for human exposure. FHSS allows multiple pieces of equipment to use the same frequency at a time, with little to no noticeable interference. Our base stations require just 20 feet of separation.

13 Avoid Interference Maintain 3 feet from other electronic devices and 20 from other bases Position the base station so the signal from handset to base requires the least amount of walls and obstructions to get to each other. Do Not Place Base Units or Antenna s near Electrical Panels, Large Machinery, Metal Objects or other Base Units

14 Do a Site Survey Take a Walk Never assume full coverage. Do a site survey Before spending time permanently wiring the base station verify coverage first With a 1X system use the intercom from handset to base For 4X and PRO system turn off Line Detection (this disables the DuraFon from detecting if a real line is connected to the base. This will give you the talk path from the DuraFon port. To test the range and coverage of the 2-way radio simply place an intercom call handset to handset (No base is required for the 2-way radio site survey)

17 Programming Recommendations PBX Programming It is recommended to program the PBX for Internal Dial Tone First Program Day/Night/Delay ringing per customers requirements for each port Create Dial X Pool Group for outside line access Use Hunt Groups and Call Groups to increase DuraFon productivity Program Analog Port Names for CLID (if PBX supported) Programming of the DuraFon Handset Registration required for all additional handsets Line Dedication for each DuraFon handset (requiring Dedicated Extension) Create Phone Book entries for all of the internal extensions Program handset Naming for each DuraFon handset Program PBX Options on each of the handsets

18 System Administration Only Handset 10 & 11 can administer the advanced features such as line dedication, auto attendant and base registration Menu options vary between products and software versions, consult the User Guides included with each system

19 Handset Registration The handset included with the base should not need to be registered. You will need to register all new and replaced system handsets 1) Power the base unit on Menu 2) Power on the handset to be added 3) On the handset, press MENU and press 6 4) On the Durafon base unit, press and hold the REG button on the left side of the base unit 5) All the LED lights should light up when registration mode is entered 6) Press 1 on the Keypad 7) Handset will indicate Successful Registration and Handset ID will have been assigned 8) Press END to exit to main menu

24 Handset Naming Nursing x17 By default all DuraFon Handsets have a Welcome banner It is recommended that you replace this with a user name and PBX ext # 1) From the DuraFon handset press Menu ) Press Delete until Welcome is erased 3) Using the Keypad enter the Name and Ext of the DuraFon handset 4) Press Save + End until the display returns to the main screen 5) Repeat for each handset

25 Programming PBX Options Preprogrammed PBX Functions for each handset 1) Select a handset press Menu ) Select ADD and key in the feature name using the dialpad i.e.: Call Park 3) Select Save and enter the PBX analog feature code and select Save 4) Select ADD to enter another code or press END until display returns to idle 5) Repeat for each Handset PBX Codes can only be accessed while on a call. It is recommended that you only program features that are required during an active call such as Call Park or a Flash + Ext for a quick direct transfer of a call. Nine PBX codes Maximum Valid digits 0,1-9 For Flash press the Talk key For Pause press the * key two times quickly

26 Phonebook The DuraFon PRO supports 90 entries in the phonebook It is recommended that you program Phonebook entries with internal extension numbers and common PBX features such as PAGE, VM Access or any time saving PBX code.

33 External Antenna The external antenna kit can increase range substantially in LOS (line of sight) applications Ak10L consists of one piece of 10 meter (33feet) LMR-400 low loss coax, and one 6 dbi antenna. Ak20L consists of one piece of 20 meter (66feet) LMR-400 low loss coax and the same 6dbi antenna kit. The coax connectors are reverse thread (left hand), TNC type for the base side, and reverse thread Type N for the antenna side. The FCC requires us to do this. Why and why not use the antenna kit The difference in db gain between the standard antenna that comes with the base, and the external antenna (with all factors included like cable loss) is approximately 2 to 3db. Range is not improved by gain, but rather by increasing the view of line of sight. This means that in-building applications may not benefit from the antenna kit, unless it allows you to position the antenna somewhere there are less overall obstructions, than where you could have mounted the base station otherwise. Outdoor applications, height is king. The higher you mount the antenna, the greater the range you ll get.

36 Why use a Splitter? Indoor / Outdoor application In some building construction types, especially a metal building, signal loss is huge between the inside and the outside. If an external antenna were used outside, signal inside would be poor, and if the antenna remained indoors, then the outdoor coverage would be poor. Indoor but different zone application A large wall, or separation (office etc.) between one section of a building and another. The net loss in the splitting is negligible as compared to the losses associated with the obstruction.
