Keep the watch exposed to bright ight The eectricity generated by the soar ce of the watch is Bright Light stored by a buit-in battery. Leaving or using the watch where it is not exposed to ight causes the battery to run down. Make sure the watch is exposed to ight as much as Soar ce possibe. When you are not wearing the watch on your wrist, position the face so it is pointed at a source of bright ight. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. harging is reduced significanty if the face is ony partiay covered. E-1 The watch continues to operate, even when it is not exposed to ight. Leaving the watch in the dark can cause the battery to run down, which wi resut in some watch functions being disabed. If the battery goes dead, you wi have to re-configure watch settings after recharging. To ensure norma watch operation, be sure to keep it exposed to ight as much as possibe. 2 Operation Guide 5208 Timekeeping Use the Timekeeping Mode to set and view the current time and date. When setting the time, you can aso configure settings for the 12/24-hour format. Each press of cyces the digita dispay in the sequence shown beow. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Timekeeping Mode, which you can enter by pressing (page E-8). In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about two code seconds, unti AJ appears on the dispay. Your current Home code wi be fashing on the screen. 2. E-13 The day of the week is automaticay dispayed in accordance with the date (year, month, and day) settings. 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping With the 12-hour format, the P (PM) indicator appears to the eft of the hour digits for times in the range of noon to 11:59 p.m. and no indicator appears for times in the range of midnight to 11:59 a.m. With the 24-hour format, times are dispayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, without any indicator. The 12-hour/24-hour timekeeping format you seect in the Timekeeping Mode is appied in a other modes. To change the ayight Saving Time (summer time) setting 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about two seconds, unti AJ appears on the dispay. Your current Home code wi be fashing on the screen. 2. Press once to dispay the ST setting screen. 3. Press to togge between ayight Saving Time (ON dispayed) and Standard Time (OFF dispayed). 4. When the setting you want is seected, press A to exit the setting screen. The ST indicator appears on the dispay to indicate that ayight Saving Time is turned on. ayight Saving Time (ST) ayight Saving Time (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from Standard Time. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use ayight Saving Time. E-14 E-15 Anaog Timekeeping The anaog time of this watch is synchronized with the digita time. The anaog time setting is adjusted automaticay whenever you change the digita time. Note The hands for the anaog timepiece move to adjust to a new setting whenever any of the foowing occurs. When you change the digita time setting When you change the Home code and/or ST setting If the anaog time does not match the digita time for any reason, use the procedure described under To adjust home positions (page E-42) to match the anaog setting to the digita setting. Whenever you need to adjust both the digita and the anaog time settings, make sure you adjust the digita setting first. epending on how much the hands have to move in order to synchronize to the digita time, it may take some time before they stop moving. Word Time code urrent time in seected city The Word Time Mode digitay dispays the current time in 48 cities (31 time zones) around the word. If the current time shown for a city is wrong, check your Home time settings and make the necessary changes (page E-11). After you press to enter the Word Time Mode, your currenty seected Word Time code wi appear on the digita dispay for about two seconds. After that, the current time in that city wi appear. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Word Time Mode, which you enter by pressing (page E-9). E-16 E-17 To view the time in another city If you press whie in the Word Time Mode, your currenty seected Word Time code wi appear on the digita dispay for about two seconds. After that, the current time in that city wi appear. Pressing again whie the Word Time code is dispayed wi scro to the next city code. For fu information on city codes, see the ode Tabe at the back of this manua. To togge a city code time between Standard Time and ayight Saving Time 1. In the Word Time Mode, use to dispay the city code (time zone) whose Standard Time/ayight Saving Time setting you want to change. 2. Hod down A to togge ayight Saving Time (ST indicator dispayed) and Standard Time (ST indicator not dispayed). The ST indicator wi appear on the dispay whenever ST indicator you dispay a city code for which ayight Saving Time is turned on. E-18 Note that the ST/Standard Time setting affects ony the currenty dispayed city code. Other city codes are not affected. Swapping your Home and Word Time You can use the procedure beow to swap your Home and Word Time. This changes your Home to your Word Time, and your Word Time to your Home. This capabiity can come in handy when you frequenty trave between two cities in different time zones. To swap your Home and Word Time 1. In the Word Time Mode, use to seect the Word Time you want. 2. Hod down A and B unti the watch beeps. This wi make the Word Time you seected in step 1 your Home, and cause the hour and minute hands to move to the current time in that city. At the same time, it wi change the Home you had seected prior to step 2 your Word Time. After swapping the Home and Word Time, the watch stays in the Word Time Mode with the city that was seected as the Home prior to step 2 now dispayed as the Word Time. E-19
3 Operation Guide 5208 Aarms Aarm time (Hour : ) The Aarm Mode ets you configure five daiy aarms. You aso can use it to turn the Houry Time Signa on or off. The watch beeps for about 10 seconds when an aarm time is reached. Turning on the Houry Time Signa causes the watch to beep on the hour every hour. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Aarm Mode, which you enter by pressing (page E-9). To set an aarm time Aarm number About 2 seconds 1. Aarm time E-20 E After you seect an aarm, hod down A for about two seconds unti the hour setting of the aarm time starts to fash. This is the setting mode. This operation turns on the aarm automaticay. 3. Press to move the fashing between the hour and minute settings. 4. Whie a setting is fashing, use (+) and B ( ) to change it. 5. Press A to exit the setting mode. Aarm Operation The aarm tone sounds at the preset time for 10 seconds, regardess of the mode the watch is in. Aarm and Houry Time Signa operations are performed in accordance with the Timekeeping Mode time. To stop the aarm tone after it starts to sound, press any button. To turn an aarm on and off 1. In the Aarm Mode, use to seect an aarm. Aarm on indicator 2. Press A to togge it on and off. To turn the Houry Time Signa on and off Houry time signa on indicator 1. In the Aarm Mode, use to seect the Houry Time Signa (SIG) (page E-21). 2. Press A to togge it on and off. E-22 E-23 ountdown Timer ua timers can be set with two different starting times. The watch can be configured so the two timers aternate, so when one reaches the end of its countdown, the other timer starts. You can specify a number of repeats vaue from 1 (once) to 10 (ten times), which contros how many times the two-timer countdown operation is performed. The starting time of each timer can be set in five-second steps up to 99 minutes, 55 seconds. E-24 Timer 1 A 2 seconds Timer 2 The watch emits a short beep whenever either of the timers reaches the end of its countdown during an ongoing timer operation. The watch emits a 5-second beep when the end of the fina timer operation (specified by the number of repeats) is reached. A of the operations in this section are performed in the ountdown Timer Mode, which you enter by pressing (page E-9). ountdown End Beeper The countdown end beeper ets you know when the countdown reaches zero. The beeper stops after about 5 seconds or when you press any button. To configure the countdown timer 1. Whie the countdown start time is on the dispay in the ountdown Timer Mode, hod down A unti the current countdown start time starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. If the countdown start time is not dispayed, use the procedure under To use the countdown timer (page E-27) to dispay it. E-26 To use the countdown timer urrent timer time Timer (1 or 2) (Reset) urrent repeat count (Start/Stop) Preset number of repeats Press whie in the ountdown Timer Mode to start the countdown timer. Pressing A whie a countdown is in progress wi dispay the repeat count (current repeat count/preset number of repeats). The ongoing countdown wi reappear automaticay after about two seconds. The countdown is performed by aternating between Timer 1 and Timer 2. A short beep is emitted to signa a changeover from one timer to the other. Pressing A whie a countdown timer is stopped resets that time to the start time specified by you. Press to pause a countdown. Press again to resume. The watch emits a 5-second beep when the end of the fina timer operation (specified by the number of repeats) is reached. E-27 A 2 seconds Even if you exit the ountdown Timer Mode, the countdown timer operation continues and the watch beeps as required. To stop a countdown operation competey, first pause it (by pressing ), and then press A. This returns the countdown time to its starting vaue. Stopwatch The stopwatch ets you measure eapsed time, spit times, and two finishes. The dispay range of the stopwatch is 59 minutes, seconds. The stopwatch continues to run unti you stop it. If it reaches its imit, it restarts from zero. Exiting the Stopwatch Mode whie a spit time is frozen on the dispay cears the spit time and returns to eapsed time measurement. The stopwatch measurement operation continues even if you exit the Stopwatch Mode. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Stopwatch Mode, which you enter by pressing (page E-9). To iuminate the dispay In any mode (except when a setting screen is on the dispay), press B to turn on iumination. You can use the procedure beow to seect either 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds as the iumination duration. When you press B, the iumination wi remain on for about 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds, depending on the current iumination duration setting. E-30 E-31 To specify the iumination duration 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the dispay contents start to fash. This is the setting screen. 2. Press 10 times unti the current iumination duration setting (LT1 or LT3) appears. 3. Press to togge the setting between LT1 (approximatey 1.5 seconds) and LT3 (approximatey 3 seconds). Power Suppy This watch is equipped with a soar ce and a rechargeabe battery that is charged by the eectrica power produced by the soar ce. The iustration shown beow shows how you shoud position the watch for charging. Exampe: Orient the watch so its face is pointing at a ight source. Soar ce The iustration shows how to position a watch with a resin band. Note that charging efficiency drops when any part of the soar ce is bocked by cothing, etc. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. harging is reduced significanty if the face is covered ony partiay. E-32 E-33 Important! Storing the watch for ong periods in an area where there is no ight or wearing it in such a way that it is bocked from exposure to ight can cause rechargeabe battery power to run down. Be sure that the watch is exposed to bright ight whenever possibe. This watch uses a rechargeabe battery to store power produced by the soar ce, so reguar battery repacement is not required. However, after very ong use, the rechargeabe battery may ose its abiity to achieve a fu charge. If you experience probems getting the rechargeabe battery to charge fuy, contact your deaer or ASIO distributor about having it repaced. Never try to remove or repace the watch s rechargeabe battery yoursef. Use of the wrong type of battery can damage the watch. The current time and a other settings return to their initia factory defauts whenever battery power drops to Leve 5 (pages E-36 and E-37) and when you have the battery repaced. Turn on the watch s Power Saving function (page E-46) and keep it in an area normay exposed to bright ight when storing it for ong periods. This heps to keep the rechargeabe battery from going dead. E-34 To check the current battery eve When the battery eve is at Leve 1 (HI) or Leve 2 (MI), the corresponding battery eve indicator (HI or MI, page E-8) wi appear ony if you press in the Timekeeping Mode. For other battery eves, the appicabe indicator appears automaticay. Battery eve indicator E-35 The battery eve indicator shows the current power eve of the rechargeabe battery. Leve 1 Battery Leve Indicator Function Status A functions enabed (harge Soon Aert) A functions enabed. Key operation tone, aarm, Houry Time Signa, and iumination disabed. A hands stop at 12 o cock. A operations disabed. The indicator at Leve 3 tes you that battery power is very ow, and that exposure to bright ight for charging is required as soon as possibe. At Leve 5, a functions are disabed and settings return to their initia factory defauts. Once the battery reaches Leve 2 after faing to Leve 5, reconfigure the current time, date, and other settings. ispay indicators reappear as soon as the battery is charged from Leve 5 to Leve 2. Leaving the watch exposed to direct sunight or some other very strong ight source can cause the battery power indicator to show a reading temporariy that is higher than the actua battery eve. The correct battery eve shoud be indicated after a few minutes. 5 A functions, incuding timekeeping, disabed and initiaized. E-36 E-37 Recover indicator Performing iumination, or beeper operations during a short period may cause (recover) to appear on the dispay. After some time, battery power wi recover and (recover) wi disappear, indicating that the above functions are enabed again. If (recover) appears frequenty, it probaby means that remaining battery power is ow. Leave the watch in bright ight to aow it to charge. harging Precautions ertain charging conditions can cause the watch to become very hot. Avoid eaving the watch in the areas described beow whenever charging its rechargeabe battery. Aso note that aowing the watch to become very hot can cause its iquid crysta dispay to back out. The appearance of the L shoud become norma again when the watch returns to a ower temperature. Warning! Leaving the watch in bright ight to charge its rechargeabe battery can cause it to become quite hot. Take care when handing the watch to avoid burn injury. The watch can become particuary hot when exposed to the foowing conditions for ong periods. Actua required exposure times depend on ighting conditions. E-41 Adjusting Home Positions Strong magnetism or impact can cause the hands of the watch to be off. If this happens, perform the appicabe home position adjustment procedures in this section. Hand home position adjustment is not required if the anaog time and digita time are the same in the Timekeeping Mode. To adjust home positions 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about five seconds. You can reease the button after H.SET appears on the dispay. Though AJ wi appear on the dispay after about two seconds, do not reease the button yet. Keep it depressed unti H.SET appears. E-42 orrect hour and minute hand positions The hour and minute hands shoud move to 12 o cock (their home position), and 0:00 wi fash on the dispay. If the hour and minute hands are not at 12 o cock, use (+) and B ( ) to move them there. Hoding down either button wi cause the hands to move at high speed. Once started, high-speed hand movement wi continue even if you reease the button. To stop high-speed hand movement, press any button. High-speed hand movement started with the (+) button wi stop automaticay after 12 revoutions of the minute hand. If started with the B ( ) button, it wi stop after one revoution of the minute hand. 2. After everything is the way you want, press A to return to the Timekeeping Mode. After performing home position adjustment, enter the Timekeeping Mode and check to make sure that the anaog hands and the digita dispay indicate the same time. If they do not, perform home position adjustment again. E-43 Reference This section contains more detaied and technica information about watch operation. It aso contains important precautions and notes about the various features and functions of this watch. Button Operation Tone The button operation tone sounds any time you press one of the watch s buttons. You can turn the button operation tone on or off as desired. Even if you turn off the button operation tone, aarms, the Houry Time Signa, and other beepers a operate normay. To turn the button operation tone on and off 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about two seconds, unti AJ appears on the dispay. Your current Home code wi be fashing on the screen. 2. Press nine times unti the current button operation tone setting ( or ) appears. 3. Press to togge the setting between (tone on) and (tone off). E-44 E-45 Power Saving Function The Power Saving function enters a seep state automaticay whenever the watch is eft in an area for a certain period where it is dark (except if the watch is in the Stopwatch or Timer mode). The tabe beow shows how watch functions are affected by the Power Saving function. The watch wi not enter the seep state between 6:00 AM and 9:59 PM. If the watch is aready in the seep state when 6:00 AM arrives, however, it wi remain in the seep state. To recover from the seep state Perform any one of the foowing operations. Move the watch to a we-it area. Press any button. E-46 E-47 Auto Return Features If you eave the watch in the Aarm Mode, or with the battery eve indicator dispayed for two or three minutes without performing any operation, it automaticay returns to the Timekeeping Mode. If you eave the watch with a fashing setting on the dispay for two or three minutes without performing any operation, the watch automaticay exits the setting screen. Scroing The B and buttons are used in various modes and setting screens to scro through data on the dispay. In most cases, hoding down these buttons during a scro operation scros through the data at high speed. Initia Screens When you enter the Word Time Mode or Aarm Mode, the data you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. Timekeeping Resetting the seconds to 00 whie the current count is in the range of 30 to 59 causes the minutes to be increased by 1. In the range of 00 to 29, the seconds are reset to 00 without changing the minutes. The year can be set in the range of 2000 to The watch s buit-in fu automatic caendar makes aowances for different month engths and eap years. Once you set the date, there shoud be no reason to change it except after you have the watch s battery repaced or when battery power drops to Leve 5. The current time for a city codes in the Timekeeping Mode and Word Time Mode is cacuated in accordance with the oordinated Universa Time (UT) for each city, based on your Home time setting. Iumination Precautions Iumination may be hard to see when viewed under direct sunight. Iumination automaticay dims if it is it and an aarm or time up aarm sounds. Frequent use of iumination runs down the battery. E-48 E-49
