May take 1 to 2 years Can specialize in a field (eg. Mechanical) Option of course based (10 courses) Option of courses (8) and Project M.A.Sc. Usually takes 2 years You specialize in a specific technology (eg. Robotics) Usually 4 courses and a major research project Preferred if aiming for a PhD

A joint venture between 5 Ontario Universities: McMaster University University of Toronto University of Waterloo University of Western Ontario Queens University Faculty from Department of Mechanical Engineering and School of Business Specifically designed for Practicing Engineers

10 ADMI Masters Workload Courses are delivered in a modular format Two four-day modules (8-4pm, Thurs Sun) Typically 6 weeks between modules Minimum of 5 / Maximum of 8 Technical courses must be taken with remainder of courses coming from the Business stream Individual and group projects Some laboratory work in technical courses Sometimes there are midterm and final exams

13 B.Tech s and ADMI M.Eng. The B.Tech. provides an excellent foundation for graduate studies. Several B.Tech. graduates have completed the ADMI M.Eng. Builds your knowledge and skills beyond engineering

15 PEO Application Apply to PEO after B.Tech. degree is obtained PEO will assess your education (they look at both College and B.Tech.) Most likely will assess you five or six technical exams and an engineering report

16 What I Was Assigned 5 technical exams in Mechanical Engineering Had to submit a technical report. ADMI M.Eng had no impact on exams. Have to apply to have courses substitute exams with PEO. PPE is an additional exam everyone has to write.

17 Preparing for the Exams Used my network to obtain past exams. Self-studied for Group A and B exams. B.Tech courses aligned well with these exams Took Engineering Economics at EPIC Took a 2 day PPE prep course Group A (2) Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines Design and Manufacture of Machine Elements Complementary Studies (2) Engineering Economics Engineering Report Group B (2) System Analysis and Control Production Planning and Manufacturing PPE Exam Everyone has to write this exam

18 Order of Completion for P.Eng APPLY TO PEO WRITE TECHNICAL EXAMS SUBMIT TECHNICAL REPORT WRITE PPE SUBMIT EXPERIENCE REPORT OBTAIN P.ENG!!

19 PEO Awards and Recognition V.G. Smith Award Awarded to the person with the highest mark in any three technical exams S.E. Wolfe Thesis Award Awarded to the engineering report judged to have been the best of all the reports received during the year. B.Tech. graduates have won the S.E. Wolfe Thesis Award twice. It s worth the effort!!

20 The Iron Ring Kipling is only held once per year. Can get the ring through McMaster. Apply once all PEO technical requirements have been met (all exams and report passed) A nice reward for all your hard work!

21 Conclusions The B.Tech program is the first step in becoming an engineer Possible future pathways: Master (M.Eng., M.A.Sc.) PhD, MBA, Other P.Eng. All B.Tech. graduates are capable of becoming Professional Engineers You can do it Good Luck!!
