Recommended prerequisite: Basic Bookkeeping or equivalent Intermediate Financial Accounting I Investigate the reporting environment, accounting process and asset valuation issues. Special topics include accounting for changes, errors and prior period adjustments. Prerequisite: Introductory Financial Accounting or equivalent Intermediate Financial Accounting II Examine current financial reporting requirements and practices for liabilities and shareholders equity, concentrating on the theoretical application and highlighting of other regulatory requirements. Prerequisite: Intermediate Financial Accounting I or equivalent Introductory Management Accounting Study managerial and cost accounting issues as a framework for approaching contemporary cost problems. Prerequisite: Introductory Financial Accounting or equivalent Intermediate Management Accounting Build on the concepts of cost accumulation and allocation. Examine cost-volume-profit analysis and capital budgeting. Prerequisites: Introductory Financial Accounting + Introductory Management Accounting or equivalent Specialist Courses Accounting Theory Gain insight into the concepts, principles and issues that underlie the discipline of accounting. Prerequisites: Introductory Management Accounting + Intermediate Financial Accounting II or equivalent Advanced Financial Accounting Study accounting methods and recording procedures during takeovers, accounting for business combination after acquisition, accounting for intra-company transactions and for non-profit organizations. Taxation I Examine the theory and application of the Income Tax Act as it relates to both individuals and corporations. Prerequisites: Intermediate Financial Accounting II or equivalent Taxation II Continue to examine the theory and application of the Income Tax Act as it relates to corporations. Prerequisite: Taxation I or equivalent Basic Courses Basic Bookkeeping Review fundamental bookkeeping principles and skills associated with a senior high school-level understanding of bookkeeping. Business Foundations Examine business in a Canadian context, including finance, personnel, marketing, operations and general management. Business Law Gain insight on legal topics that accountants and general business managers encounter to recognize where legal problems exist and what avenues are open to resolve them. Business Statistics Understand statistical techniques commonly used in solving business problems and understanding market research. Business Strategy Gain practical training in setting goals and objectives for organizations and in creating business strategies and plans. Prerequisite: Building Social Media Relationships *Required for concentration Stackable Credentials Students who complete a Business Administration Certificate and want to continue towards the Business Administration Diploma may apply the certificate courses to the diploma. A one-time $79 fee applies. Students who complete the Business Administration Diploma and want to pursue a concentration within the same diploma must take at least 9 units of credit in the new concentration area. Students will be charged a one-time $79 fee to pursue each additional concentration. Students who complete a Diploma in Marketing or Human Resources Management are not eligible to then pursue the Business Administration Diploma with a concentration in that same topic. Note: students who complete the concentration first are eligible to pursue the Human Resources Management or Marketing Diploma. 37 METALLURGY OF IRON & STEEL Courses Primary Production of Steel Study the chemical reactions and thermodynamics related to the production of steel and their environmental impact. Explore the production of iron in the blast furnace, the key processes of iron making from the raw materials (iron ore pellet, sinter, coke and flux) through to the final product (hot metal and slag), the advantages and limitations of the blast furnace iron-making process, and the new iron-making process development. Examine the BOF and EAF routes of steel-making along with secondary refining and continuous casting to understand the advantages and critical parameters of each process. Physical Metallurgy Study the relationship between structure and physical properties of metals and alloys. Use case studies to understand metal structure and crystallography, alloy theory, mechanical properties and plastic deformation, phase diagrams, the iron-carbon diagram, alloy steels and cast irons. Heat Treatment of Steels Steel is incredibly responsive to heat treatment. Learn how to control the properties of steel from the atoms out.
