CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to provide instruction in the application of skills and responsibilities of a business assistant in a dental practice. Fundamentals in basic bookkeeping procedures, communication skills, appointment scheduling, dental insurance, records management, employment preparation, and banking/financial procedures. Instruction includes integration of material through lecture, practical experience and the use of computers. Two hours lecture, one hour lab arranged per week. Two hours of independent work done out of class are required for each hour of lecture. Students will be required to complete the following types of assignments outside of the regular class time: Study Answer questions based on text and lecture content Practice skills in exercises designed to apply basic practice management principles Read required materials Observe activities related to course content Participate in activities related to course content DEGREE APPLICABLE COURSE: 2 hours of independent work done out of class per each hour of lecture or class work, or 3 hours lab, practicum, or the equivalent, per unit. If "essay" is not checked, it must be explained why essays are an inappropriate basis for at least part of the grade in the course.
