Personnel Nursing Program Admission and Progression Criteria 1. New and Currently Enrolled Students Admission to the Nursing Program All students who desire to enter the SCCC nursing program must have a completed SCCC application on file with the Admissions Office by February 1 of the year that they seek admission to the nursing program. Admission to the SCCC Nursing Program is a highly selective process and is based on the following criteria: 1. Academic Criteria for Eligibility to Take the Standardized Entrance Examination MATHEMATICS ENGLISH SCIENCE Math A with a Regents exam grade of 80% or higher OR Math Sequential I OR II with Regents exam grade of 80% or higher OR ACT score of 17 (19 enhanced) or higher OR SAT math score of 450 or higher OR (May need to revise ACT and SAT scores.) *College math course, MAT 1000, or higher with a grade of B or higher. High School Regents exam with a grade of 85% or higher OR ACT score of ---- or higher OR SAT English core of ---- or higher. OR *English Composition (ENG 1001) with a grade of B or higher. One year of Regents Biology with a Regents exam grade of 80% or higher OR One year of Regents Living Environment with a Regents exam grade of 80% or higher OR *College Introduction to Biology with Lab (4 credits) SCI 1101/1102 OR SCI 1124/1125 Principles of Biology I and Lab (4 credits) with a grade of B or higher. GPA College GPA of 2.5 or better. High school average of 75% or higher. * Applicants may have no more than 1 repeat in any of these college courses within 3 years of applying to the Nursing program.

2 2 2. Standardized Entrance Examination Notification will be provided in writing to each candidate eligible to enter the SCCC Nursing Program. The exam must be included as part of the completed application. Students will be notified as to their eligibility to take the admission exam. A registration form and directions for the exam will be sent to eligible students. Top scorers on the examination will be admitted to the nursing program. This examination may only be taken once a year for each admission cycle. There is a fee for each exam taken which must be paid prior to taking the exam. Students who do not meet all of the nursing program criteria may not be accepted into the nursing program for the year they apply, but may apply to the program again in subsequent years. Candidates may be accepted to the college while completing nursing prerequisites. Length of Program Students who meet the Academic Criteria for Eligibility may complete the program in two academic years. Some students, because of the intense nature of the Nursing program, may find part-time study more appropriate. B. Students with Advanced Standing Transfer Students Transfer students must meet the Academic Criteria for Eligibility and will be evaluated on an individual basis by the Director of the Nursing Program. Validation of current knowledge base, clinical calculation competency and nursing skills competency, may be evaluated through testing. Licensed Practical Nurses Licensed Practical Nurses, who apply for advanced standing in the Nursing program, must meet the Academic Criteria for Eligibility, and complete all advanced placement exams and prerequisites for the course they are applying to enter.

3 3 COURSE Advanced Placement Exams *Pre-Requisites 1. Achieve a grade of 75% or better on a faculty prepared SCI 2124/2125 Anatomy and NUR1010 cumulative written examination for NUR 1001 Physiology I and Lab 3 lecture Fundamentals of Nursing hours, 2 lab hours, 4 credits with a grade of C or higher. 2. Successfully complete a nursing skills examination administered by the Nursing Program faculty ENG 1001Composition I, 3 lecture hours 3 credits with a grade of B or higher. 3. Receive a 90% on the clinical calculations competency. The Nursing examination, skills testing and clinical calculations requirements must be completed by November 15 th of the fall semester prior to entry into the Nursing Program. Fee must be paid prior to testing. SBS 1500 General Psychology, 3 lecture hours, 3 credits with a grade of C or higher. * No more than one repeat in any of the pre-requisite courses. NUR Pass the NYS PN to RN Transition Course. 2. Successfully complete a nursing skills examination administered by the Nursing Program faculty. OR 1. Receive a grade of 75% or better on a faculty prepared cumulative written examination for NUR 1010 Commonalities of Nursing 2. Successfully complete a nursing skills examination administered by the Nursing Program faculty 3. Receive a 90% or higher on the clinical calculations competency. The written examination, skills testing and clinical calculations requirements must be completed by July 15 th of the year entering into the Nursing Program. Fee must be paid prior to testing. All of the above pre-requisite for NUR 1010 SCI 2126/2127 Anatomy and Physiology II and Lab, 3 lecture hours, 2 lab hours, 4 credits with a grade of C or higher. SBS 2510 Developmental Psychology, 3 lecture hours, 3 credits with a grade of C or higher. * No more than one repeat in any of the pre-requisite courses.

4 4 C. Students Seeking Re-admission to the Nursing Program The re-admission process deadline is November 1st for the Spring semester and April 1st for the Fall semester. Re-admission into the Nursing program requires approval of Nursing Program Director and is on a space available basis. Students seeking readmission to a nursing course must: Notify Program Director via written letter requesting re-admission. Indicate course for which re-admission is sought. Complete re-admission process with the Admissions Office. For students seeking readmission after more than one year of date that they left program MUST: Satisfactorily complete the nursing skills competency for the Nursing course(s) previously completed. Complete clinical calculations competency with 90% mastery. Achieve a grade of 75% or better on a faculty prepared cumulative written examination for the Nursing course previously completed. A student who is granted approval to repeat a Nursing course may do so only one time, and will be given priority for space in the program on a space available basis. A student may repeat only one nursing course one time throughout the program of study. 5 5 NUR 2100 Nursing Issues & Trends 2 ENG elective 3 NUR 2032 Health Problems II Seminar (optional) 1 13 /14 Progression criteria NUR courses A grade of 75% or better must be achieved in all nursing courses in order to progress. A student may repeat only one nursing course one time throughout the program of study. Competency in clinical calculations is required and is tested in all four Nursing core courses. During all clinical laboratory experiences, students must provide for and maintain principles of safe nursing practice in all interactions. Violation of safety principles may result in immediate clinical failure, an administrative withdrawal, and a grade of F for the course. Co-requisite courses A student may repeat only one of the co-requisite courses. They may not repeat more than one course. Science courses require a minimum grade of C. Sociology and Psychology courses require a minimum grade of C. Cumulative GPA A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better must be achieved for successful completion of the Nursing Program. The program must be successfully completed and the student must graduate from SCCC in order to apply to take the exam for licensure.
