It focuses on the exploration and analysis of contemporary nursing practice, current trends, and issues impacting nursing care delivery. Advanced leadership and management concepts are discussed as part of the nursing role. Clinical experiences will be provided in Nursing 251. 4 LAB CONTENT: None OBJECTIVES/STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: COMMUNICATION (PERSONAL EXPRESSION AND INFORMATION ACQUISITION) INFORMATION COMPETENCY 1. demonstrate effective verbal and written communication in order to meet the communication needs of the nursing field, assessed through active participation in class as individuals and in small groups. TECHNOLOGY/INFORMATION COMPETENCY 1. demonstrate proficiency in word processing and computing skills in order to apply these skills in the nursing field, assessed through the preparation of written assignments or essays. CREATIVE, CRITICAL AND ANALYTICAL THINKING/DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC 1. demonstrate an understanding of general principles of leadership and theoretical principles of leadership in the different health care settings in order to apply these principles accordingly to the various health care settings, assessed through class participation, written assignments, group assignments, and exams. 2. Illustrate a basic understanding of the concepts of ethics and ethical theories, in order to apply these principles to nursing case studies situations in the various health care settings, assessed through class participation, group assignments, written assignments and exams. 3. demonstrate an understanding of the educational preparations for nursing, comparing and contrasting the different levels of nursing in order to articulate the various positions of placement based on educational preparation for nursing assessed through class and group discussions, written assignment, and exams.
