2 Who we are Ambulance Victoria was formed in 2008, creating a single ambulance service for the State of Victoria Provide the highest level of pre hospital emergency care and patient transport across Victoria We respond and attend medical emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week We are committed to the continuous improvement of patient care. We have both emergency and nonemergency transport functions, via road and air resources

3 Who we are We respect the values of all members of the community We recognise and value staff and their contributions We work closely with other members of the health industry, emergency services, State and local governments, businesses and schools to increase the community s capacity to deal with medical emergencies. For a person who does not speak English, the Ambulance service offers assistance through the interpreter service.

5 Crews In metro region mostly two-officer crewing at Ambulance Paramedic level or as a MICA unit In regional Victoria major regional centres and larger towns will have two- officer crewing which may be a mix of staffing levels, In smaller provisional centres mostly single-officer crewing supported by Ambulance Community Volunteers Some regional centres or outer lying locations are staffed solely by Ambulance Community Officers and CERT teams A Graduate Ambulance Paramedic will always be staffed with a Qualified Ambulance Paramedic or MICA Paramedic

6 Rosters Shiftwork organisation: 10/14 roster in most major regional centres and across parts of Metro region 4 on / 4 off cyclical rotation in some centres Peak Period Unit rosters that allow for a mix of shift times and start times, usually 10 or 12 hour days Supported call rosters where one crew on night shift while the other crew on call Single officer call roster, 8 days on / 6 days off

It is like no other job in the world. The hours are unusual, the work is sometimes demanding both mentally and physically, and you often get little acknowledgement of your efforts. 12 Paramedic Degree All recruits require a degree in Paramedicine. 15 GAP Program Stage Duration Program Induction 1 week 2 weeks 1 week AV Organisational Induction AV Clinical Induction Driver Standards Program Units weeks Placement in a training location Clinical Placement with Clinical Instructor (CI). Practice as an ALS Graduate Paramedic under supervision 1:1 supported development, part of a 2-person crew 4 weeks rostered annual leave Completion of CI reports with milestone requirements to progress 2 24 weeks Placement in a training location Practice as an ALS Graduate Paramedic under indirect supervision with an AP Supported development while encouraging autonomy 2 x 4-week period with a Clinical Instructor Completion of OSCE assessments for final ATP as AP Program Conclusion N/A Graduate concludes program when all requirements successfully completed, and is authorised to practice as a Qualified Ambulance Paramedic. AV Graduation Ceremony occurs twice yearly to recognise achievements
