3 The Ideal Learning Environment Chatham University, founded in 1869 and home to about 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students, is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a city in the northeastern United States of America. Chatham s Shadyside Campus includes the historic, 39-acre Woodland Road arboretum campus and is at the center of the bustling Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Shadyside and nearby Oakland. Our Eden Hall Campus is located on 388-acres in Richland Township, approximately 45 minutes from the Shadyside Campus, and is home to the School of Sustainability and the Environment. The University is a private, selective, fully accredited, nonsectarian institution, consisting of three distinct Colleges: Chatham College for Women, offering baccalaureate degrees to women only; College for Graduate Studies, offering master s and doctoral degrees and teacher certification to both women and men; and College for Continuing and Professional Studies, offering undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education online to both women and men. Shadyside Campus Eden Hall Campus The Chatham advantage Small campus and class sizes. The average class size at Chatham is 14 for undergraduate students and fewer than 20 students at the graduate level. Accelerated Graduate Programs enable undergraduate students to earn a bachelor s and master s degree in as few as five years. The Chatham University 3-2 Engineering Program enables students to enroll for three years at Chatham University and then two years at an accredited engineering school. Chatham has established cooperative programs with Carnegie Mellon University and Pennsylvania State University. Chatham Abroad and many graduate programs offer students the opportunity to study around the world. The Global Focus program engages our students in the study of peoples and civilizations. Each year, our community of scholars promotes a critical and holistic exploration of one specific country or region of the world. The Global Focus program celebrates Turkey. Past regions/countries have included Brazil and West Africa. Community Involvement. By combining practical learning opportunities with career exploration, Chatham students typically complete thousands of community service learning hours worldwide each year. Chatham University is located in the heart of the City of Pittsburgh. Students are encouraged to explore the city because it offers many cultural and learning opportunities. To help students explore the city, the Chatham ID card allows students to take city busses for free.
