The prgram f study ffers interrelated theretical and clinical learning experiences. Multiple agencies are utilized fr clinical experiences including: Washingtn Adventist Hspital, Shady Grve Adventist Hspital, Children s Natinal Medical Center, The Washingtn Hspital Center and ther varius skilled nursing facilities. The Nursing prgram has an enrllment limit f 40 students per admissin semester. The nursing prgram is a 4 year prgram; graduates receive a Bachelr f Science Degree which allws students t integrate int the practice f prfessinal nursing within the health care system in a multicultural sciety. 4 4 WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY Department f Nursing Baccalaureate Degree Prgram PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION Applicatin 1. Apply t the University thrugh the Admissins Office. Applicatins may be btained by calling (301) r nline at Please nte: Acceptance t the University (even as a pre nursing majr) des nt guarantee acceptance int the Nursing Prgram. The Admissins Office will infrm the student f what must be submitted alng with the applicatin t the University. 2. After acceptance t Washingtn Adventist University and payment f the admissin cnfirmatin fee has been made, previus cllege credits (if applicable) will be evaluated by the Registrar s Office. (Nte: Official transcripts must be submitted in rder fr the fficial evaluatin t be cmpleted). This prcess may take up t eight weeks and must be cmpleted befre applying t the nursing prgram. Internatinal transfer students wishing t transfer credits must submit fficial internatinal transcripts, as well as an fficial WES transcript. 3. Once the student has been accepted t Washingtn Adventist University and the fficial transcript evaluatin has been cmpleted, the student will cntact the Department f Nursing at (301) fr an appintment with the nursing admissins & prgressin crdinatr. 4. The student will meet with a Department f Nursing advisr wh will answer questins abut the nursing prgram and will set up an individualized degree plan. The student must be accepted t Washingtn Adventist University and have the fficial transcript evaluatin cmpleted befre an individual degree plan can be created. 5. The semester befre the student plans n entering the cre nursing prgram, a nursing applicatin must be submitted t the department by the apprpriate deadline (see page 5). 6. Alng with the nursing applicatin (5 abve) it is a requirement that the department is supplied with three cmpleted recmmendatin frms (see page 10). These frms shuld be cmpleted by individuals wh are able t assess yur perfrmance in an academic r wrk setting. (Please d nt have peers r family members cmplete these frms).

6 6 Step 1: Cmplete the Applicatin HOW TO APPLY TO WAU Fill ut the nline applicatin r submit a paper applicatin t the ffice. Step 2: Send Transcripts Freshman must send high schl transcripts with at least 6 cmpleted semesters. After graduatin Final Transcripts will be required. Transfer students with less than 24 credit hurs will need bth cllege transcripts and high schl transcripts. Transfer students with mre than 24 credit hurs shuld submit nly cllege r university transcripts. We require that transcripts be sent frm all clleges r universities a student has attended. Step 3: Send Test Scres Freshman r Transfer students with less than 24 credit hurs shuld submit test scres fr admissins and financial aid purpses. Step 4: Send Recmmendatin Letter Each student is required t submit ne letter f character recmmendatin t the admissins ffice. Letters may nt be filled ut by a family member r friend. Accrdingly, ur Admissin Cmmittee carefully reads each applicatin. We d nt have simple r frmulaic ideas abut the prfile f an admitted student; rather, we believe that there are many indicatrs f yur ptential fr success academically, prfessinally, and as a psitive cntributr t ur cmmunity f students and t ur glbal sciety. We determine yur ptential fr success by cmpleting a hlistic evaluatin f yur applicatin package. Each required item is requested fr a reasn and cntributes t ur evaluatin f every applicant. There is nt a maximum scre fr any test that guarantees acceptance r nn- admittance. Hwever, a cumulative GPA f 3.0 r abve n all curses attempted, as well as a cmpsite 2.75 GPA n prerequisites is strngly recmmended fr acceptance. I am applying fr entry int the BSN Prgram. 12 12 ABOUT THE TEAS TEST The Test f Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a multiple-chice assessment f basic academic knwledge in reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The bjectives assessed n the TEAS exam are thse which nurse educatrs deemed mst apprpriate and relevant t measure entry level skills and abilities fr nursing students. The purpse f the TEAS is t ensure that yu are academically prepared t be successful in a health science prgram. Required scres (indicated belw) are predictrs f success fr ur nursing prgram. PREPARATION FOR THE TEAS V EXAM In rder t prepare fr the TEAS exam, it is recmmended that yu study the ATI Test f Essential Academic Skills Manuel, which can be purchased in the nline stre at REGISTERING FOR TEAS The TEAS exam is a required entrance examinatin that must be cmpleted and submitted with the nursing applicatin. Students may nly take the test twice during a twelve mnth perid. Students can retake the TEAS an additinal time if students enrll in the TEAS prep curse with apprpriate dcumentatin and are apprved by the Nursing Admissins and Prgressins Crdinatr.
