In this role you will provide administration for Phase 1 of the medical undergraduate curriculum, including the management of clinical placements for Phase 1 medical students, and provide administration for the Consultation Skills Foundation Course (CSFC) and have administrative oversight of the People and Disease Course. In addition the University hosts the MRC Toxicology Unit, with which there is close collaboration. Building on existing strengths, multi-disciplinary research themes have been developed to exploit synergies between basic science, clinical medicine and psychology in the College. These themes are in the fields of genome science; molecular & cellular bioscience; cancer; cardiovascular sciences; respiratory science; microbial science; neuroscience and behaviour; and population science. A further theme is exploring the research which underpins teaching & learning. 3 The Department of Medical & Social Care Education Head: Professor N London Deputy Head: Dr D Heney The Department of Medical & Social Care Education, led by Professor Nick London, has a range of staff including academic, administrative, clerical and technical. The Department is responsible for a number of areas of activity, which include: The coordination of the MBChB curricula, including curriculum design, assessment and administration, coordination of clinical placements, curriculum evaluation and development. The provision of Social Work education by a Masters Degree in Social Work. The provision of applied medical sciences education for MB ChB and other students. The provision of a wide range of Inter-professional Continuing Professional Development for health care professionals within a postgraduate framework. The provision of the DipHE in Operating Department Practice. The development of the Coventry Leicester Physiotherapy Course in partnership with Coventry University. Research in areas related to Medical Education and Social Care. The Director of Undergraduate Medical Education is responsible to the Head of Department for the effective operation and development of the medical courses, and heads a team of lead staff each responsible for one of the standards defined by the General Medical Council in 'Tomorrow's Doctors' (2009). Job Outline To provide administration for Phase 1 of the medical undergraduate curriculum, including the management of clinical placements for Phase 1 medical students. To provide administration for the Consultation Skills Foundation Course (CSFC) and have administrative oversight of the People and Disease Course. Assist with administration of Year One OSCE / Phase 1 clinical professional examinations Main Duties & Responsibilities Provide administration for the teaching of communication and inter-personal skills and ensure codes of practice or regulatory requirements are met Support the administration for the design, development and implementation of the Objective Structured Clinical and Professional Examinations, for 270 medical students, twice each year. Liaise with the undergraduate coordinators of UHL to share administration for the delivery of teaching on hospital placements by hospital clinical teachers in Phase 1 of the course. Liaise with managers within the Community and in General Practice to ensure the appropriate placement of students within those settings in Phase 1. 4 Assist with the review and update of teaching materials including diagnostic equipment and the interactive e-learning resources, including the e-portfolio Keep up to date records on the SITs system as required Provide the Consultation Skills Trainers with the student and timetabling information they require for teaching tasks Provide administrative support for the Module / Unit Evaluation group? Provide administrative support for student induction week Allocate personal tutors for students in Phase 1 of MBChB Liaise with the programme lead and other administrative staff to create and publicise the timetable to staff and students. Minute meetings as required Contribute to whole department administrative events as required (e.g. admissions interviews, examination planning) Provide administrative support for any area, as reasonably requested by the Programme Lead Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Essential Desirable Minimum of 5 GCSEs at including English and Mathematics at Grade C or above* IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office* Experience of working in university administration and with a knowledge of University regulatory procedures * Experience of working with medical students or in a health care environment.* Skills, Abilities and Competencies Essential Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to develop and maintain expert knowledge in relevant areas. Ability to manage a varied workload, often under pressure Excellent IT skills and ability to work with specialised database programmes Excellent verbal and written communication skills Accuracy and attention to detail.
