1 CARM Tranng - Quck Reference Gude For E-learnng Onlne Tranng Programs Instructons for New Tranees The followng s a short gude to get you started n the CARM Tranng onlne e-learnng programs. All our onlne programs are hosted from the webste. Please note that the CARM Tranng e-learnng programs can take anywhere from mnutes (usng broadband) to complete. In addton, you wll need to complete the onlne quz at the end of the tranng modules. Ths should take you an addtonal mnutes to complete. For frst tme users of onlne e-learnng tranng, ths tranng can be undertaken n stages by completng one module at a tme and then loggng out of the program and then loggng back n at a later date to complete the tranng at your choosng. These e-learnng programs are self paced and self drected. You as the tranee have complete control over how you wsh to undertake ths tranng. If you are not used to e-learnng as a medum then t may ntally pay you to break up the learnng nto a number of shorter sesson. Consderatons Clent PC - Mnmum IT specfcatons for Webste delvery: Pentum Mb RAM+ Flash 6+; (ths freeware can be downloaded from the CARM Tranng webste go to the e-learnng button and scroll to the bottom of the page for the lnk) Internet Explorer 5.5+ Wndows 98+ Sound card Vdeo card Adobe Acrobat Reader 5+ (ths freeware can be downloaded from the CARM Tranng webste go to the e- learnng button and scroll to the bottom of the page for the lnk) Internet connecton The best connecton and download speed wll be acheved through usng ether a Broadband or ADSL connecton, whch wll allow the programs to be completed n the specfed tme frames. 3 PC Confguraton and Informaton Secton Common Problems Solutons Web ste vewng and loadng problems To vew the webste you wll need to be runnng locally Mcrosoft Internet Explorer 5 or greater on your computer. In addton you wll need Macromeda Flash and Adobe Reader. For maxmum vewng screen resolutons should be set to 800 by 600 pxels. In addton Browsers should be set to dsplay the newest verson of each page. To do ths whle Internet Explorer s open: Select Tools on the menu bar Clck on Internet Optons, and Press the Settngs button Where t says Check for newer versons of stored pages, you should select the opton every tme you vst the page. The above must be checked before you commence the tranng. Your nternet securty settngs wll also need to be set to accept cookes, as wthout ths you may not be able to access the quz. Navgaton buttons Forward and back arrows are used to navgate through the tranng. They are located at the bottom of each screen. By clckng on these arrows, you wll be taken to the prevous or next screen. Please note: It s mportant that you clck only once on the forward or back arrows. 4 Basc Common Problems Solutons Scroll bar usage A scroll bar appears on the rght hand sde of the screen when there s more nformaton to be vewed on the screen. You must keep an eye out for the scroll bars and use them. Otherwse, you may mss some materal or specfc terms and condtons, whch you may need to accept before you can progress further wth the program. Program runnng too slow Sometmes, durng heavy nternet usage or nternal network usage the program may run slower than usual. Ths can cause the program to tme out / log out, whch means the tranees, can only access the program by re-enterng through the logn screen agan. Checkng current Flash verson If you can't see the openng flash screen at the top of the CARM Tranng home page, then you need to nstall Flash. Refer to the CARM webste and clck on the e-learnng drop down menu and scroll to the bottom of the page for a lnk and nstructons on how to complete ths task. Prntng Certfcates You wll only be able to prnt a certfcate once you have successfully completed and passed the quz. You wll be prompted to prnt your certfcate mmedately after you have completed the quz. Refer to page 13 for more detaled nstructons. Please note that prntng a certfcate s optonal. The CARM Learnng Management System records your results regardless of whether you prnt a certfcate or not, whch s made avalable to your tranng admnstrator. Authorsaton Code As part of the learner documentaton you wll receve from your Authorsed Tranng Admnstrator, the course specfc authorzaton code to be used durng your self regstraton process. 6 3 Clck the Regstraton / log on button 4 Clck the REGISTER button You are requred to clck on the Regster button f ths s your frst tme accessng the onlne tranng. From ths pont on you must fully complete the regstraton process otherwse your codes wll be locked out of the system. 7 5 Read the terms and condtons of use and then clck I have read and accept the proceedng terms and condtons 6 Complete the self regstraton nformaton on ths page and then clck SUBMIT Don t forget to record your User Name and Password n a safe place so you can access the tranng program at a later date. (Remember the codes are case senstve). You are requred to enter all requested detals. You wll need to set-up a username and password of your choce for each program. Please create a unque username and password so you can successfully complete the self regstraton process. You may lke to use the frst three letters of your surname and last three letters of your Chrstan name etc. For your password use eght dgts and nclude numerals as well. Ensure that you record your username and password as you wll need them to logn to the program at a later f you choose to log-out before completng the course n one sttng. 8 7 For Robbery Safety Tranng ONLY At the bottom of the screen you wll have the opton to select hgh or low bandwdth settngs. You wll also have the opton to select censored or uncensored versons. 8 Clck SUBMIT Choose hgh bandwdth only f you are connected va broadband or ADSL The censored verson lmts some of the more graphc vdeo and mage content. Ths opton may be preferable for those senstve to volent mages or persons prevously nvolved n a robbery ncdent. If you are unsure of the correct verson to select please contact your tranng admnstrator for further assstance 9 Enter n the Authorsaton Code The authorsaton code wll be provded to you by your Tranng Admnstrator You wll only be asked to enter n an authorsaton code when you regster for the frst tme. 10 Clck SUBMIT An authorsaton code has been provded to your Tranng Admnstrator. 9 11 Begn your tranng To begn, select a module from the menu on the left hand sde of the browser. If you have not undertaken the tranng before, you should start from Module 1 and numercally work your way to the quz at the end of the program. Each tme you want to ext the course please ensure that you clck on the LOG OUT button located on the left hand sde of the page (crcled) The 00 cons alongsde the module name wll show you whch modules you have prevously vewed and what percentage of those modules you have completed. If nstead you are prompted for an authorsaton code, ths s because your access has now expred or you have prevously faled to fully complete the ntal regstraton process and actvaton of the program. 13 Prntng Certfcates Note: Process s the same for all the onlne e-learnng courses Once you have successfully completed the quz, the followng screen wll appear Clck on the lnk Prnt Your Certfcate button Select the approprate prnter (f applcable) Before you clck on prnt button ensure that there s paper n the prnter. If you want a good qualty prnt, ensure you load the approprate qualty paper for your certfcate. If you want a colour copy you may need to select colour prnt copy on your machne. Please note that prntng a certfcate s optonal and only avalable when you complete your quz your results wll be stll be recorded regardless of whether prnt a certfcate or not. 15 Forgotten or ncorrect Usernames and Passwords Note: Process s the same for all the onlne e-learnng courses If you can't remember your username and/or password, or upon enterng your detals you receve a message advsng that you re username or password are nvald, clck on the forgotten your password lnk Enter your emal address nto the feld provded and clck "Submt". Note that the emal address you enter must correspond to the emal address that you entered durng the regstraton process n order for ths nformaton to be provded to you. 17 Techncal Support Common I.T. Errors Common Problems Solutons Typng ncorrect URL / Webste addresses Please ensure you type n the correct web address for the tranng whch s Typng ncorrect access codes Incorrect or mss spelt regstraton / logon names, passwords, company codes, emal address and names are also common mstakes. Remember codes are case senstve and the (numeral 0) s sometmes mstake for the (letter O) and vce versa Regstraton and logn process The frst tme you use an e-learnng program you are requred to go through the regstraton process (self regstraton) up to and ncludng enterng the Authorsaton Code. After ntal regstraton you should then enter the program through the logn screen usng the logn name and password, whch you created durng the regstraton process. Tranees must not regster more than once for the tranng program. As dong so wll mean duplcate results and also take up unnecessary seat/lcence allocatons. Caps Lock Caps lock ether on / off s another common problem. You are requred to type n your logn detals exactly as you dd when frst regsterng for the program and remember these codes are case senstve. Forgotten passwords Tmed out Please ensure you record your logn name, password and other nformaton, whch you generate durng the regstraton screen. These codes should be kept n a safe place, whch you can access at a later date to do the tranng. Ths nformaton wll be requested at logn screen when returnng to do the program. When dong the tranng or assessment / quz, you must not leave your computer for more than 20 mnutes as the program wll tme out.
