1 Rathdown School Centre Profile 2014 Junior Summer Camp Age profile: 9-15 yrs Location Glenageary is a suburb of Dublin, located 12km south of the city centre. This residential area is very quiet and is well connected to Dublin by both bus and DART. Its superb hillside location boasts views of the Irish Sea to the east and the Wicklow mountains to the south. Rathdown School, founded in 1973, is a large boarding school set on 16 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. The school comprises numerous buildings dating back to the early 19th century. Although spacious, the site is sufficiently compact to allow ready access to all major facilities.

2 Accommodation The accommodation is available in a period property which has recently been refurbished to offer comfortable and functional space for students. Spaces are large and students are accommodated in multi-bedded rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Lessons Each lesson is 45 minutes in duration and the standard programme for junior students is 15 hours per week. Classes are available at all levels from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1). Classes for junior students will have a maximum of 15 students, but you can expect an average of 13 students per class. Class times are divided so that students receive lessons from more than one teacher, two per day allowing them the benefit of more than one voice and teaching style and having a team of teachers liaise on their learning paths. There are numerous comfortable modern, spacious classrooms available in the college. Integration Programme The Integration programme involves our international students mixing with young Irish students for 3 afternoons of sports activities and 2 evening activities per week. In addition to this we currently provide a structured and supervised conversation exchange for our Spanish speaking students, this takes place for 1 hour each day from Monday to Friday. During this time our other international students have a Drama workshop with Irish teachers. The full student population then come together for the afternoon sports programme and evening social activities.

3 Student Welfare The welfare of our students is of paramount importance to us and we offer a high standard of care and supervision to all our students. We provide nominated ATC staff members to act as guardians to our individual students that travel without group leaders. It is very important for us that our students remain happy and healthy throughout their stay. Our management in Rathdown College, along with our teachers and activity leaders will ensure that all students receive the best possible care and attention so as to maximize their experience during their study holiday. Activities & Excursions The programme at Rathdown College offers a very comprehensive cultural, sports and evening programme. Included are two half day cultural excursions to local galleries, museums and other visitor attractions and one full day excursion per week to cities and places of cultural importance around Ireland. In addition to this there are three afternoons of sports with Irish students. The activity programme provides young students with an opportunity to absorb some of Ireland s rich heritage in a fun and relaxed way. A residential evening activity programme rounds off each day and includes: discos, Irish nights (Ceili), karaoke and talent nights to name but a few, ensuring that each student is busy from breakfast to bedtime. Sports & Recreational Facilities Facilities include: sports complex with a gymnasium where students can play table tennis, basketball, badminton and volleyball. There are extensive flood lit playing fields and tennis courts and an astro-turf hockey/football pitch.

4 Campus Living Cleaning Bedrooms, kitchen and living rooms will be cleaned 6 days a week and rubbish removed by the onsite staff. Damages There is a damage deposit of 50 for individual student s and 250 for groups that will be collected upon arrival. This will be retained for the duration of the student/group s stay. The deposit will be returned in full prior to departure less the cost of any damages caused by the student/group. Deliveries Mail and other deliveries for students will be passed onto the Centre Manager for distribution. Any breach of fire safety regulations may result in a fine and expulsion from the course. Laundry Laundry for students staying in the college is included in the package. It is collected once per week. Safe A safe is available for the security of students belongings at Rathdown college. Students are encouraged to store large sums of money or valuables here. Travel tickets and passports are normally kept in the safe for the duration of the students stay. Security There will be security monitoring the facility, dealing with security and related matters and responding to fire alarm activations. In order to co-operate with college staff, when asked students will be required to identify themselves and respond to legitimate directions relating to safety, security and good order. An ATC Language & Travel staff member will assist Rathdown College security in the event of noise disturbances, incidents involving language school participants or medical emergencies. Student Identity Card In order to co-operate with the security and safety standards at Rathdown college, ATC Language and Travel will supply all students with a student identity card. Students must carry their card with them at all times.

5 Residential Programme Programme Includes: Full board accommodation. 15 hours of English language tuition per week. Use of textbooks and other learning materials. Graded certificate and end of course report. 3 afternoons sports with Irish students Integration* Two afternoon cultural visits per week with entrance - Viking Splash Tour once per stay. One full day excursion by coach per week including entrance fee. Evening programme including discos, films, karaoke, Irish night and other activities. *** This includes 2 evening activities with Irish students. *** Important Note: Host Family option available for combined groups only. Supplement of 50 per week for hot lunch in college, Monday to Friday (Host family students) BUS/DART travel passes must be purchased by all students in host family Airport transfers are NOT included Students who wish to play tennis must bring their own tennis racquets. Towels are NOT provided by the college. Damage deposit of 50 per individual students / 250 per group on arrival to be refunded in event of non-use. There will not be any credit given for meals not taken. Bus & Rail tickets not included: 2014 rates: 2 weeks - 68 / 3 weeks - 92 / 4 weeks- 115 * Please note that the conversation element of the Integration programme is only available to Spanish speaking students and during this time all other students will have a 1 hour drama workshop each afternoon from Monday to Friday. All non Spanish students have integration through 3 afternoon sports activities and 2 evening activities per week.

All textbooks and other learning materials will be made available to the students, with a graded certificate and end of course report being presented on conclusion of their stay. The maximum number of students per class is 15. All levels are available according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages levels from Elementary: A1 to Advanced: C1. Statistics Rathdown College welcomes a range of nationalities such as Italian, Spanish, French, German, Korean and Russian. The centre welcomes students from 9 to 15 years of age from 28th June to 31 st July Transfers On arrival at the airport, students will be met by an ATC Language & Travel representative who will escort them to Rathdown College. Dublin International Airport is located approximately 15 kms from Rathdown College, with the average journey time being 45 minutes depending on traffic. An airport transfer can only be arranged when flight information is received in writing by ATC Language & Travel at least 10 days prior to arrival. ATC Language & Travel cannot take responsibility for the students arrival transfer unless this procedure is followed. Medical Information In the case of a medical emergency, an ATC Language and Travel member of staff will assist in seeking the appropriate treatment. Any trips to the doctor, dentist or hospital will have to be paid in full by the student (including transport where necessary). All students will be accompanied by a group leader.
