2 HOUSE INFORMATION At Vermont South Community House we provide a variety of courses and activities - educational, recreational, environmental, and social - that will suit people of all ages and abilities, and from many walks of life and cultural backgrounds. Our classes and groups encourage community-based learning and provide support in a friendly and welcoming environment. By participating in them, you can build social connections and networks and further develop your sense of community spirit. About the House Our office hours are 9am - 4pm Monday Thursday and 9am - 3pm Friday. Staff comprise of Sharon Smart (Manager) and Office staff, Helen Crisp, Nicole Harman, Colette Doyle and Maria Patsavouras. Our Child Care Coordinator is Leanne Michaud supported by Nicole Badcock, Colette Doyle, Patricia Molesworth, Mei Yun Pang and Helen Pearce. You can also enrol for our funded courses online Enrolments are confirmed by payment of course fees via: EFTPOS, credit card, cheque, cash and direct debit using the following bank details (Name: Vermont South Community House BSB: Account Number: Please add your Surname and Course in the description). Then please [email protected] to advise of payment via this method. Credit card payments can also be made over the phone. ($2.00 surcharge for credit card payments) Fees are to be paid IN FULL AT TIME OF ENROLMENT. If classes are to be cancelled, a full refund will be made. 8 Funded Courses - English as a Second Language (ESL) ESL Beginners with Virginia Monday Ref: 15ALNeslA 5 Oct 7 Dec (10 wks) 9.30am 12.30pm (CR) This is a course in the use of the English language at a basic level; it is designed for beginners. Topics will include learning to use common words in speaking, reading, writing, computing and activities of daily living in Australian culture. This course provides a pathway to other classes at VSCH including ESL Conversation and to volunteer work and employment. Learners will be able to function more fully in Australian society, access further training and improve employment opportunities. Pre requisite is a completed food hygiene course pre enrolment. Food Hygiene (CTR) Cost: $60.00 Wednesday 14 Oct (1 wk) 6.00pm-10.00pm This is a minimum requirement for people wishing to work as a food handler. No pre requisites required. A great start for those entering cafes, restaurants and function work. RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) (CTR) Cost: $60.00 Wednesday 21 Oct (1 wk) 6.00pm-10.00pm Non Accredited Bar & Mixology (CTR) Cost: $50.00 Wednesday 28 Oct (1 wk) 6.00pm-10.00pm This is a basic introduction to bar work and cocktail preparation and designed for anyone that maybe interested in working in a bar, café or club environment. Basic Coffee Making (CTR) Cost: $50.00 Wednesday 11 Nov (1 wk) 7.00pm-10.00pm For lovers of espresso coffee or someone wanting to work in a café environment this course provides basic skills of making a variety of espresso coffees and texturing milk. Basic Indian Cooking with Minnie (CTR) Cost $ $10pw food Thursday 15 Oct 3 Dec (8 wks) 6.00pm 9.00pm New class covering the basics of Indian Cooking. Learn how to cook basic curries, breads, salads and desserts. 2 dishes per session (main and dessert). Cake Decorating with Jeanine (FR) Cost: $90.00 Thursday 22 Oct 26 Nov (6 wks) 7.30pm 9.30pm This class will suit those interested in learning about Modern cake decorating design Class will include a fondant covered chocolate mud cake, and chocolate modelling. Cooking in a Wood Fire Oven (CTR) Cost: $50.00 Wednesday 25 Nov (1 wk) 7.00pm-10.00pm This course will suit those who have or are considering purchasing a wood fired oven. Learn how to prepare the oven at the right temperature, have the right equipment and create wood fired delights. 9

10 CHILD CARE & PRE KINDER PROGRAM Child Care / Occasional Care Child Care is available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9.00am pm to provide the opportunity for parents to take a break, attend classes and for children to learn socialisation skills. Pre-Kinder Program Pre-Kinder Program is available Tuesday and Thursday from 9.15am 2.15pm. It is a structured program (based on the Early Years Learning Framework) for 3-4 year olds, which promotes independence, and socialisation. We include music, indoor and outdoor play, craft, movement and portfolios. SOCIAL GROUPS Book Club (CTR) Participants can join Book Club at any time and are welcome to come along and have a look before joining.
