1 8 th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF PHD STUDENTS University of Miskolc, Hungary 6-10 August 2012 FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT UNIVERSITY OF MISKOLC The legal predecessor of the University of Miskolc was established in Selmecbánya (today Banska Stiavnica, Slovak Republic) in After World War I, the Faculties of Mining Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering moved first to Sopron, then, in 1949, to Miskolc and were supplemented with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In 1983 the Faculty of Law, in 1990 the Faculty of Economics and in 1997 the Faculty of Humanities were established at the university. A few years later, the Comenius Teachers Training Faculty, the Bartók Béla Institute of Music and the Faculty of Health Care Studies, all 3 located outside the campus, were also integrated into the University of Miskolc. At present, the university has more than 14,000 students. 2 8 th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF PHD STUDENTS University of Miskolc, Hungary 6-10 August 2012 The University of Miskolc has been organising the International Conference of PhD students biannually since At each of these events, some young lecturers, researchers and PhD students took part from countries. The objective of the conference is to give PhD students, young lecturers and researchers an opportunity to present and discuss their scientific achievements, to establish new relations. During the conference interesting lectures will be given by well-known scientists from Visegrad Countries so as to provide professional training. Information about the lecturers and their presentations is provided on the webpage The language of communication is English. Scheduled Sections of the Conference: A Agriculture D Engineering Sciences F Natural Sciences B Humanities E Medical Science G Law C Economics Papers of max. 20 minutes duration can be presented in the sections. Video projectors, laptops and overhead projectors will be provided by the organisers. Poster papers can be displayed on a 1 m 2 surface area per paper. Papers of the conference (both oral and poster, 4 or 6 pages, size A/4) will be available electronically on a CD, if the ready-for print version of the presentation is sent to the University of Miskolc in printed form via ordinary post and it is also electronically uploaded at both in PDF and WORD format, and the registration fee is transferred till the deadline. Formal requirements can be downloaded from the homepage of the conference. Papers will undergo professional pre-selection before they are accepted. Conference fees: (The sums contain VAT and free attendance of the professional training courses). Participants from the Visegrad Countries (Slovak Republic, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary) get 50% support by the Visegrad Found s to cover the costs of their accommodation and meals. Registration fee including organisational and publishing costs of one paper: 100EUR+bank charges (one paper) Full board approximately: 80EUR / 5 days Accommodation approximately: 100EUR / 6 nights One participant can present maximum two papers. The 100EUR registration fee covers the costs of the first paper. The second paper will cost an extra 40EUR. Registration for the conference is ON-LINE at: Deadline for registration: 10 June 2012 Participants will be accommodated in the UNI-HOTEL on campus in apartments with 2x2 beds. Full board will be available in the restaurant of the university. Accompanying persons can be invited to the conference: accommodation and full board are available for them as well for extra fee. We would like to make your stay more enjoyable by organising optional programmes. We advise you to make your choice in advance, but it will also be possible to sign up for these programmes - though only in limited number - during the conference. Please note that participants from the member institutions of the Association of Carpathian Region Universities (ACRU) organisation may apply for further support at the ACRU to cover the costs of the conference. 4 PhD Conference Optional Programmes EGER Visiting the Castle of Diósgyőr, situated by the foot of the Bükk Hills and built in the middle ages; taking a short walk in Lillafüred, around Lake Hámori and in the beautiful park surrounding Hotel Palota (Hotel Palace), in the climatic health resort at the meeting point of the Garadna and Szinva valleys. Arriving in Eger, the town of traditions, heroism, baroque atmosphere and fine wines. Visiting the Castle of Eger and its Museum, which hosts the exhibition of Turkish times. Sightseeing in downtown Eger (Minaret, Dobó Square, Széchenyi Street, the Basilica). Wine tasting in Szépasszony Valley (valley of beautiful women). Leaving for Miskolc at about 6.30 p.m. outside the main building of the university Miskolc-Lillafüred-Eger 40 EUR TOKAJ Arrival in Sárospatak; visiting the Rákóczi Castle (including its Lórántffy Loggia, Perényi Wing and Red Tower), one of the most important centres of Hungarian history in the 16 th -18 th centuries. Arrival in Tokaj. After a short walk in the 18 th -century city centre, the group will be invited to a wine-cellar to taste the famous Tokaji Wine. Important!! The temperature in the cellars is a constant 9 C, so make sure you bring a warm pullover with you. Leaving for Miskolc at about 6.30 p.m. outside the main building of the university Miskolc-Tokaj-Sárospatak 40 EUR AGGTELEK Visiting the Hungarian Orthodox Museum in Miskolc, then leaving for Aggtelek National Park, where a one-hour tour in the world famous Baradla Cave will be made. Important!!! The temperature in the cave is a constant 10 C Celsius, so do not forget to bring a pullover with you. Before or after our cave tour, you will be kindly invited to have some refreshments in the nearby cafeteria. outside the main building of the university Miskolc--Aggtelek 35 EUR HORTOBÁGY A short visit to the Matyó Museum in Mezőkövesd, which is the capital of Matyó-land. An exhibition of folk costumes with richly coloured embroidery made by the Matyó ethnic group will be visited. Arrival at the territory of Hortobágy National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Sights to see: The Nine-Arch Bridge, the Museum of Shepherds, the Puszta Animal Park, Craftmanship exhibition: original "black pottery"; watching the potter at work at his wheel; promenade.
