COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS EARN COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT SUCCESS STORY: LAUREN MAGEE Lauren Magee plans to graduate from Fairborn Digital Academy in June, She is on the Miami Valley Dance Center Dance Force, and she volunteers her time assisting with children at her local church. Lauren started taking classes at Sinclair in the spring of 2013 to start building college credits while in high school. Fairborn Digital Academy is an online high school, so Sinclair s dual credit program was a good fit. The online classes had a very familiar feel, and the diversity of Sinclair s student population made her feel welcome on campus as well. She has excelled in the classes at Sinclair maintaining her GPA of 4.0, while taking a variety of elective classes as well as advanced math and English courses. She plans to transfer her Sinclair credits to Wright State University after she graduates from high school to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in earth sciences. With the credits she has earned from Sinclair, she hopes to complete this in two to three years, ahead of schedule for a normal high school graduate. WHAT IS COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS? College Credit Plus (CCP) gives high school students the opportunity to take college courses and receive college credit for free, while still in high school. Take classes: at your own high school, taught by a high school teacher at your own high school, taught by a Sinclair instructor at any of the five Sinclair locations, taught by a Sinclair instructor online, taught by a Sinclair instructor and typically proctored by a teacher from your high school
HOW DO I BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM? By joining this program you will: earn high school and college credit for your classes save money by investing in college credits early have the option to complete college classes within the familiar setting of your high school get a head start by earning college credits that you can use to finish a degree at Sinclair or transfer to another Ohio college or university gain early exposure to college coursework, rigor, and expectations
WHICH CLASSES CAN I TAKE? CCP offers general education classes that you normally take during your freshman and sophomore years in college: English, Social Sciences, Math and Science. You get to choose between two plans offering 15 and 30 credit hours. Classes offered in the program can include: College Algebra General Psychology Effective Public Speaking Introduction to Sociology and more! You also have the chance to choose extra classes from a variety of options in: Humanities Math Science Government
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES? By passing a CCP class at Sinclair, you are guaranteed to receive both high school and college credits for the same class! CCP lets you earn college credits as soon as you successfully complete a course. On the other hand, Advanced Placement (AP) classes will prepare you to take the national AP tests during high school. You will only receive college credit for your AP class IF you score high enough on the test and IF the college you attend accepts AP credits.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY COLLEGE CREDITS? You can use your CCP college credits to continue your education at Sinclair to complete a certificate or associate degree program. After high school graduation you can also use your credits to transfer to another Ohio college or university to complete your associate or bachelor s degree. Most Sinclair credits transfer easily to other public Ohio colleges and universities. You should check with the college or university you plan to attend for specific information on transferring credits. This means that you will: Spend less time in college to get your degree Save money by taking your general education classes early
STUDENT SUCCESS STORY: TAYLOR BELLE Taylor Belle, a 2014 graduate of Jefferson High School, is the definition of student athlete: she had a stellar academic record while serving as captain of the cheerleading squad, track team and dance team. Taylor also participated in a Sinclair dual credit program. As a dual credit student, Taylor was able to experience the academic content of college, while still participating in high school sports and extracurricular activities. She began the program the summer of her sophomore year and earned enough credits to graduate with both her high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree. The program was a benefit because I was able to boost my GPA, and I now have to complete only two years to receive my bachelor s degree, Taylor said. She currently attends The Ohio State University, majoring in Nursing.
AM I ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE? Beginning with the school year all Ohio public high schools and public colleges and universities are required to participate in this program. Every student will have the chance to apply. You must meet one of the following requirements for each of the subject sections to show that you are academically ready for the college courses. English & Social Sciences Successful completion of two units of College Prep English/Language Arts with a minimum of a B average and the high school s recommendation, OR An ACT score of 18 in English, OR Score college ready on Sinclair s ACCUPLACER placement test. Math & Science Successful completion of Algebra II or its equivalent with a minimum of a B average and the high school s recommendation, OR An ACT score of 22 in Math, OR Score college ready on Sinclair s ACCUPLACER placement test. Students may also submit SAT scores or Compass math scores for review.
