OPERATION BLUE ANGEL The Montclair Police Department, Montclair Fire Department, and Montclair Ambulance Unit have collaborated through Lifelong Montclair, the Township s aging in place initiative, to give our senior residents more peace of mind. Operation Blue Angel is intended to provide Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) access to a residence in the event of an emergency where the resident is unable to open the door. Thanks to funding from the Partners for Health Foundation, eligible residents will be provided with a free lock box. The key, provided by the applicant, will be stored in the secure lock box near the entrance to their residence. The access code to the lock box will only be available to first responder personnel and used only during an emergency. To be eligible to enroll in Operation Blue Angel lock box program, Montclair residents should meet the following requirements: they must be 55 years or older or have medical conditions that could lead to incapacitation and live alone or are alone for extended periods of time on a regular basis. ESSEX COUNTY SENIOR WELLNESS DAY The14th annual Essex County Senior Wellness Day, a free event for all county senior citizens, will be held Tuesday, September 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Codey Arena, 560 Northfield Ave. in West Orange. This event is free and open to all seniors residing in Essex County. Health screenings, information about nutrition and exercise demonstrations will be available. Various Essex County agencies will have representatives on site to talk about available programs for seniors. In addition, all seniors will receive free refreshments including breakfast, snacks and bagged lunch and musical entertainment and free admission to Turtle Back Zoo. Essex County Transport will be providing a bus to and from the event from Edgemont Park. To sign up for transportation, or for more information, please call

(These trips are now full) What is your birthdate and where were you born? I was born in Brooklyn and I am 74 years old. When did you move to Montclair and why. I was commuting to NYC from Monmouth County and after 25 years I sold my house and moved to Montclair to shorten my commute in Are you currently employed? If so, doing what? If you had a career, what was it? I had a career in the apparel industry and also have my NJ Real Estate license. I recently received a degree in history from Montclair State. Have you done any volunteer work? I am currently a volunteer for NYC s Auxiliary Mounted Patrol Unit patrolling parks in every borough of NYC on horseback. What is your mantra or words you live by? Stay active, enjoy living every day, and sleep. Our program highlights Montclair seniors and their creativity, efforts, and contributions to our community. If you know someone who should be featured, call What is your age and where were you born? I was born 88 years ago and grew up in the East 70 s of NYC. When did you move to Montclair and why? I moved to Montclair in 1977 on recommendation of a friend. Are you currently employed? If so, doing what? If you had a career, what was it? In 1972 I helped start and became a major shareholder in a contracting business working primarily in the offices in Rockefeller Center. I retired in How are you currently engaged in the community? I have been a member of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee since What organizations or clubs are you affiliated with or a member of? Member/ volunteer for AARP. I belong to Sr. America which holds a pageant for ladies 60 and better. What are your plans for future? I plan to live here in Montclair for the rest of my life. It is a great place where I am greeted by so many people every day. I am home. August 9 Sands Casino Bethlehem, PA Join us for a day trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA. Cost of the trip is $28.00 and includes coach bus, snacks, drinks, driver gratuity and $25 slot play. Bus leaves Edgemont Park at 9am and should return by 5pm. September 27 Senior Wellness Day Essex County invites area seniors to this FREE wellness fair at Codey Arena which includes health screenings, food, entertainment and exercise demos in addition to free admission to the Turtle Back Zoo. Bus transportation is being provided by Essex County Transport. Bus leaves Edgemont at 10:00am and returns at 2pm. Seating is limited. Registration is required to ride the bus. Call to register. October 3rd 1:30 matinee Papermill Playhouse: Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz is the new musical story of how Frances Gumm became Judy Garland and won the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Orchestra seats are $35.00 each. Bus leaves Edgemont at 12:15pm and returns by 5pm. Cash only; limit 2 tickets pp per show and you must fill out waiver for the bus. No phone orders will be taken.
