Participants will be shwn the predetermined 2 minute clip and the student grup with ur technical staff will assess this cllectively. This will be the pprtunity fr the participants t have an in depth discussin with senir technical staff abut their prject befre they embark n it. This culd be abut establishing the lk with a clurist, nline editr, wrkflw architect, tech directr. Objectives by the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Define the rle f the varius departments that make up a picture pst team as well as the specialist rles within each department. Describe the prcess and bjectives f the final Picture as a culminatin f the picture pst prcess. Onset Acquisitin/Dailies Grading Part One: Onset Acquisitin Wrking alngside a Data Wrangler, all participants will experience an in depth walkthrugh f the prcess f digital nset acquisitin, thrugh t passing nt a dailies clurist. This is the first engagement a pst prductin facility has with the field sht ftage. Participants will be shwn this vital pathway see the prcess and the thinking required t ensure a smth transitin frm the field t pst. Objective By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Understand the data capture pipeline Sund knwledge n the fundamentals f data acquisitin Part Tw: Dailies Grading Participants will bserve a dailies clurist wrking n material that has been passed directly frm ur nset Data Wrangling team. Online Editing/Cnfrm Wrking alngside an nline editr, participants will experience an in depth walkthrugh f the nline editing prcess. This will cver everything frm EDL/VFX management and the theries behind the methdlgy f nline editing. The nline editr will begin the prcess f preparing clips/media etc., shwing participants hw this wrks. 2 PICTURE (CONT) Clur Grading Part One: Participants will spend this mdule wrking n the first part f the grading prcess. The clurist will demnstrate the methdlgy f clur grading. Stepping thrugh the prcess t include balance grading t wrking up t the full creative apprach. The participants will wrk tgether t achieve the lk and feel they are wanting. This will be a cllabrative interactive sessin. Finally - a team assessment with the peratr will ccur. Participants will be given the pprtunity fr sme hands n wrk during this sectin. Objectives By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Part Tw: Cmplete full assessment with a clurist Wrk with clurist t analyse prblem areas that emerge with the picture Develp slutins t prblem areas The secnd part f this sessin will be what the clurist will wrk thrugh, and explains the prcess f, base grading the prject. Objectives By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: View and discuss the cmpleted grade with the clurist Understand the cncepts invlved in clur grading Online Editing/ Titles & Exprts In this sessin, participants will g thrugh the prcess f generating titles /graphics and final checks befre cmpleting the final picture exprt f their prject. Objectives By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Steregraphy View and discuss the cmpleted prject with the nline editr Understand the cncepts invlved in nline editing This sessin will give participants the pprtunity t see a demnstratin f sterescpic case studies. Cvering aspects f native stere in camera capture and sterescpic VFX wrkflw. Participants will be able t have a hands n experience with ur state f the art sterescpic sftware. Participants will be shwn a variety f stere material, frm native captured drama thrugh t full 3D CGI shts. 3 PICTURE (CONT) VFX - An intrductin and verview f the VFX department Participants will be intrduced t a typical VFX wrkflw and type f shts that the VFX department handles. As part f this experience, participants will be taken thrugh an verview f the wrkings f the department. This will include hw shts enter the department, t the different treatments and techniques used t cmplete a sht. Participants will be shwn different types f shts as case studies, which will be brken dwn step by step. The VFX supervisr will discuss actual supervisin experiences. Q&A sessin. Objectives By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Understand the cncepts invlved in VFX fr film and TV Have a feel fr what s pssible and fr what kind f budget See hw the techniques f matte paintings / rtscping and cmpsiting all cme tgether t create a seamless sht Mastering We ve saved the best t last this will be an insight int the exacting wrld f mastering. It s the attentin t detail that makes the difference. The film must be perfect and an exact replica f what was intended. The sessin will cver mastering and deliverables, thrugh t the DCP creatin and QC befre final screening. Whilst nt the mst exciting part f the prcess n paper, it is imprtant fr any aspiring filmmaker t have a gd understanding f this vital step t ensure yur creative dreams end up n screen as intended. The participants will be taken thrugh the media peratins department and then given an verview f the prcess with demnstratin material and case studies. Objectives By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Knw what mastering is and why it s imprtant Understand the QC prcess and why it s crucial Understand hw a DCP is made Understand the display pipeline nce it leaves the facility 3

Intrductin t Sund Participants are intrduced t the general thery behind sund fr feature film and hw each f the departments wrk bth individually and tgether, building the elements needed fr the final sundtrack. The 2 minute clip is analysed frm a sund perspective and the schedule fr the next 5 days is presented and explained. Objectives - By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Define the varius departments that make up a sundpst team (dialgue, music and sund effects) Describe the prcess and bjective f the final mix as a culminatin f the sundpst prcess Assess a sectin f ftage, name the sund elements within and classify them as t what department wuld be respnsible fr each element Sund Effects, Ambience & Sund Design Wrking alngside a prfessinal sund effects designer/editr the participants are shwn the tls and skills required t tracklay general sund effects and ambiences (using libraries held at Park Rad). Participants will als get a practical intrductin t field recrding and learn hw elements f sund design cme tgether. This wrk will utilize a selectin f the sund manipulatin technlgy available t the present day sund designer. As part f this demnstratin the necessary sunds are recrded/added/designed fr the 2 minute clip. If time permits, participants will have the pprtunity t experiment with editing their wn selectin f sund effects using Avid Pr Tls and a cpy f the 2 minute clip. Objectives - By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Describe the purpse and use f metadata when relating t audi media, as well as its imprtance t sund library management sftware Describe the purpse and prcess f tracklaying sund ambiences fr a piece f mving image Describe the purpse and prcess f tracklaying hard sund effects fr a piece f mving image Demnstrate the principles f gd field recrding technique and identify pssible pitfalls Describe the purpse and prcess f creating sund design elements fr a piece f mving image Identify the key tls used by mdern day sund effects editrs and designers. 4

5 SOUND (CONT) Fley Part One: Fley Recrding With the assistance f a seasned fley walker and peratr, the participants are tasked with recrding all the necessary fley elements needed fr the 2 minute clip. Initial discussins will fcus n the rle f fley within the sundtrack and demnstratins f bth gd and bad fley recrding technique. Objectives - By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Define the rle that fley plays in a mdern sundtrack Describe the fley recrding prcess and the skills required Identify the reasns why prductin audi can generally nt be relied n fr ftsteps/spt effects and mvement Demnstrate the principles f gd fley recrding technique and identify pssible pitfalls Part Tw: Fley Editing Once the fley has been recrded the participants will then learn abut the precise editing and layut needed t prepare the material fr the final mix. At the end f this blck all the fley fr the 2 minute clip will be edited and prepared fr mixing. As time permits, participants will have the pprtunity t experiment with editing the recrded fley by themselves using Avid Pr Tls and a cpy f the 2 minute clip. Objectives - By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Dialgue Describe the prcess and techniques required t precisely edit recrded fley t match a mving image Demnstrate the crrect layut fr a recrded fley track as is it prepared fr a pre/final-mix Part One: Prductin Audi, ADR/Lp Grup Recrding Here the participants will be walked thrugh the prductin audi recrded n set, hw that audi can ften be unusable and why many films make extensive use f ADR and Lp Grup. The participants will als examine the varius additinal sund items requested by mst film studis as part f the final delivery f the film. This will lead in t an explanatin f the rle f the M&E (music & effects mix) and the need t create separate audi stems fr each f the sund departments as part f the final mix. Fllwing n frm this and wrking alngside a small grup f prfessinal actrs the participants are shwn the prcess f ADR and Lp Grup recrding. Bth gd and bad recrding techniques will be demnstrated as will the additinal tls used in ADR t assist the recrding prcess. The 2 minute clip frms the basis fr the recrd sessin. Objectives - By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Describe the rle that ADR and Lp Grup play in the preparatin f a dialgue track fr mving image Define the purpse f the M&E and why additinal dialgue recrding may be necessary fr its creatin Evaluate a sectin f prductin audi and identify pssible areas that may require ADR r Lp Grup recrding List the key steps a dialgue department must cmplete in rder t prepare scripts and audi fr an ADR sessin Describe the main tls and prcess fr recrding ADR and Lp Grup as well as being able t identify pssible pitfalls and bad technique 5

These elements are then edited as a whle and tidied in readiness fr the final mix. As time permits, participants will have the pprtunity t experiment with editing the prductin sund alng with the recrded dialgue by themselves using Avid Pr Tls and a cpy f the 2 minute clip. Objectives - By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Demnstrate the prcess and techniques required t precisely edit recrded ADR and Lp Grup t match a mving image Demnstrate the crrect layut fr a dialgue track (bth ADR, Lp Grup and prductin sund) as is it prepared fr a pre/final-mix Music Alngside an experienced music editr the class will put tgether a music track fr the 2 minute clip, discussing the needs f music and hw it must tie in with the ther elements f the piece. They will surce the music frm prductin music libraries prvided. Part f the discussin will als include the layut and creatin f the Music Cue Sheet and the licensing f bth riginal cmpsitin and prductin music. Further discussin will fcus n the basics f cmpsing t picture. Hw rchestral recrd sessins wrk and the cmplexities f editing music when the picture is cnstantly changing. As time permits, participants will have the pprtunity t experiment with editing sme prductin music using Avid Pr Tls and a cpy f the 2 minute clip. Objectives - By the end f this sessin participants will be able t: Describe the prcess f surcing and laying prductin music t picture as well as sme ptential pitfalls when fitting music arund ther sund elements Reprduce a simple music cue sheet and demnstrate its imprtance and legal significance Describe the varius appraches r steps a cmpser may take when cmpsing music t picture and wrking t fulfil a directr s visin Describe the film scring prcess and hw an rchestral film scring sessin differs frm a traditinal music recrd Identify the key tls and wrkflw elements that allw the easy integratin f picture updates and changes when wrking thrugh a sundpst schedule Demnstrate the crrect layut fr a music sessin as is it prepared fr a pre/final-mix Demnstrate simple music editing using Pr Tls 6

7 SOUND (CONT) Mixing Wrking in ne f Park Rad's main mix suites the grup will cmplete the last stage f the sund pst prcess. All the elements cme tgether t create a prfessinal quality Dlby Atms mix. Wrking alngside wrld class mix engineers and technicians the participants will gain a full understanding f the challenges faced during the final mix and the subsequent 'deliveries' prcess. Demnstrate an understanding f the calibratin standards utilised in film t allw sund technicians t match the vlume and snic characteristics f differing spaces arund the wrld Demnstrate an understanding f the main delivery elements that are required at the cmpletin f the mix t fulfill the film studi's requirements Evaluate/assess a film mix and cnstruct a critique n its varius elements Screening f Final cmpleted Prject(s) Finale The prgramme will end with a receptin and celebratin at Park Rad. Participants, prgramme staff and invited guests will enjy sme canapes and drinks befre viewing the participant s final wrk in the cinema.
