TOEIC OLPC is compatible with the following browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, 9 and 10 on MS-Windows at 32 bit and 64 bit versions (for Windows 8 in desktop mode only) Google Chrome 17 or higher Mozilla Firefox 17 or higher Safari 6.02 and up, running on Mac OSX 10.7 or higher Log out rather than click on the X to close the program If you click on the X to close the program you will need to wait for 10 minutes before you can log back in. If you try to login before 10 minutes has passed you will receive an error message saying that the current user is still logged in. Click on user name to access drop down menu where Log Out option can be found

2 Click Logout How does the System Check work? Every time you log in, the System Check will perform a quick check to verify presence of the browser plug-ins needed to run the TOEIC OLPC. If all of the plug-ins are installed, you will be redirected to the TOEIC OLPC homepage. If you need to install a plugin, you will be directed to a results screen. A Download button will be active for each plug-in that is missing in your computer. Please press Download and install according to the on-screen instructions.

3 Once you have installed a plug-in, please click on the Recheck System button to update the results. NOTE: It is possible that a specific component might request that you close your browser to complete the installation. In this case, close all your browser windows, and restart your computer. Once the installation is complete you can log in to the TOEIC OLPC again. Remember to authorize Java to run the first time it activates after installation.

4 How do I enable the Java plug-in in my browser? INTERNET EXPLORER GOOGLE CHROME MOZILLA FIREFOX MACINTOSH Go to Internet Explorer menu: Tools >> Manage Addons >> All Add-ons Look in the add-ons list for these two add-ons: Java Plug-in SSV Helper Java Plug-in 2 SSV Helper Click the button Enable in the lower right corner of the window, then press Close. Now log into TOEIC OLPC. Type in the address bar: chrome://plugins/ and press ENTER. A list of plug-ins will be displayed, scroll down the list until you see the plugin named Java(TM). Click on Enable. Now log into TOEIC OLPC. Go to Firefox menu > Adons > Plugins Find the plug-in: Java (TM) Platform SE, press the Enable button. Now log into TOEIC OLPC and recheck the system. In Safari go to: Safari Settings Security A pop window will open, make sure these options are enabled: Enable plug-ins Enable Java Enable Java Script Close the pop window. Now you can recheck the system from System Check. How do I grant Java permission to run? For security reasons, the first time a new Java version runs on a browser, it needs to be authorized by you to run always on all web sites. Each browser displays a message asking you for this permission, you should pay attention to this message and allow Java to run. For Google Chrome: A yellow bar will appear at the top of the browser asking permission to run, press Always run on this site, after this you can recheck your System.

5 For Internet Explorer You will see a bar like this, click on it and select Run Add-on on All Websites, after that you can recheck your System. Then press Recheck system What to do if I have two or more Java versions installed? a. Solution 1: Uninstall the old Java version(s), and leave the latest Java version 7.x b. Solution 2: Uninstall all Java versions, log in again and install Java from the System Check. How do I uninstall an old Java version in Windows? If you find that after you have installed Java, the System Check keeps asking to install Java, it may be possible that you have an old version of Java installed in your system. This may produce conflicting results in the detection and activation of the recently installed Java version, and therefore the System Check request to install Java again. To correct this, you should uninstall all old versions of Java and leave the most recent Java version 7.x that you have. It is also advisable to check and clean your registry from previous corrupted Java installations using a registry repair tool like ccleaner (

6 To uninstall old Java versions please follow these steps: 1) Go to Control Panel> Programs>Programs and Features 2) Scroll down the list and locate the Java versions older than 7 update 5 3) Right click one by one and select Uninstall 4) Follow the on-screen instructions in the Java uninstaller

7 5) Go back to Control Panel> Programs>Programs and Features and press F5 to refresh the view 6) Repeat step 2 through 5 until you have uninstalled all Java versions lower than 7 update 5 7) Open your browser and log into TOEIC OLPC 8) If your Java version is properly installed, you should pass the system check test and go into the TOEIC OLPC homepage. Remember that the first time Java runs on your browser it will ask your permission to run, make sure you allow Java to run on all websites. For Google Chrome you will see a yellow bar like this, press Always run on this site For Internet Explorer you will see a bar like this, click on it and select Run Add-on on All Websites

8 Why does Chrome ask me for an update after I have already installed Java? Chrome always checks that you have the latest version of Java installed, according to the Java website. This is a message from the browser and not from TOEIC OLPC. Click on Update plug-in to update the Java to the last available version. Remember that after installation, Chrome will ask permission to run Java, choose Always run on this site. If you press Run this time you will keep getting the same yellow message, until you provide permission to run on this site. How can I check which version of Java I have installed? Go to this address in your browser: You will see a screen to check your Java version, Press the red button Verify Java version After seconds you will receive the results of which Java version you have installed and the latest recommended version. If you have old version, please uninstall it and install the latest recommended version. How do I verify which Java version is active in my computer? 1) Go to Control Panel>Programs> Java 2) This will open the Java control panel. 3) Go to tab Java, and click on the View button 4) Make sure that the highest version of Java is enabled in both the User tab and the System tab. Please adjust if necessary by clicking on the appropriate check box. 5) Click OK Apply OK 6) Now go back to TOEIC OLPC and recheck you system

9 Tips for Mozilla Firefox: Flash: User has to close the browser and restart it after the Flash Player installation Tips for Microsoft Internet Explorer: After the Speech Recognition installation, the following message appears: This website wants to run the following add-on: MTWTool Module and asks to be allowed to run. Right click on the message and select Run add-on on all websites, and then restart the browser to avoid seeing this message again.

10 How do I enable Java in Safari on Mac OSX? After installing Java you might have to enable the Java plug-in in Safari browser. Please go to Safari Settings and enable the add-on by checking the options exactly as shown in the picture below: How do I install Flash in Mac OSX? To download Flash go to the following link from System Check window to the Adobe website, and click Download now

11 How do I avoid the Java Security warning message? If you have Java 7, you may get this security warning message when using TOEIC OLPC, click on UPDATE: This will take you to the Java update website, click on the Free Java Download link. And then click on Agree and Start Free Download You will then be asked to run or save the download, choose Run and follow the instructions on screen. You will be asked to close your browser. Wait for the update process to finish.

12 Open Java Control Panel: Start>>Control Panel>>Programs>>Java Then go to the Security tab and change the Security Level to Medium. Then Click Apply and OK

13 FOR MAC USERS Please perform the same process. The Java control panel can be opened from System Preferences as shown in the following picture:

15 From the Apple menu, choose Software Update The Software Update will check for new software. You ll get a status window: If there is a Java version to update it will be listed in the details pane, press Show Details to see the version information. If your Mac lacks many updates, you may need to repeat this process two or three times including restarting your computer. Press continue

16 Wait for the download and restart your computer if prompted. Repeat the procedure until you get no more updates on the list. How do I use the Recording function in the TOEIC OLPC? Click on See Script to activate the links(hear Part and Record Yourself)

18 Press Record Yourself You can practice recording the phrase selected in the dialog by pressing the Record button.

20 Choose one of the characters by clicking on the arrow next to the character Click Start When you see the word SPEAK you can begin reading aloud the highlighted sentence. When you finish the sentence you have to press Stop.

22 Click Next to advance to the next sentence and repeat the recording cycle until you complete the dialog.

23 When the dialog is done, you can press Hear to hear the entire dialog with your recorded sentences. How do I change the support and navigation language? You can change the support language of the content, menus and buttons in TOEIC. There are two ways of changing the language. 1) From the Language menu. Go to the language menu, click and select the language that you want. This function works only before you start learning. Once you enter into the courses, this function becomes inactive. When you go back to the Home Page this function will become active again. 2) From My Profile window.

24 From the user menu, go to My Profile and in the language field choose the language you want from the list and click SUBMIT. You can enter this section any time during your learning.

25 What is the Session Timeout message? If your learning session is inactive for more than 80 minutes, the session will automatically expire. To go back to your courses, click OK and login again from the login page.
