3 DOWNLOADING THE 3M CLOUD LIBRARY APP Go to the 3M Cloud Library page ebook.3m.com Depending on the type of computer/laptop you have, click on either the PC App or Mac App link Click on Download Cloud Library and then Save File A Setup Wizard will open follow the prompts Save the file to your computer, and click I Agree to the License Agreement Page 3 of 10

4 Login You will be asked to Login. Choose IL from the State dropdown menu, and Schaumburg Township District Library from the Library dropdown menu The Username is your Library Card Number, and the Password is your PIN (defaults to the month and last two digits of your birthdate e.g. if you were born in May 1980, your PIN would be 0580) A 3M icon will appear on your desktop, and you will click on this icon when you want to get back to the library s 3M Cloud Library after this initial setup. Click Login and you will be taken to the Schaumburg Township District Library 3M Cloud Library page: Page 4 of 10

5 ADOBE ID AUTHORIZATION The first time you check out and download an ebook you may be prompted to authorize your computer or device with an Adobe ID. If you have already authorized the device with an Adobe ID from a previous ebook app (such as the OverDrive Media Console) you should be prompted to authorize using the same ID. You may also be given the following options: Activation Explicitly provide an AdobeID Automatically generate ID for 3M Cloud Library (recommended) Choose Explicitly provide an AdobeID And then enter Adobe ID Name Password IMPORTANT: Even though it says it is recommended to automatically generate an AdobeID, if you intend to read ebooks from MyMediaMall (the library s other downloadable ebook service) on this device you MUST authorize using the same AdobeID you used for the OverDrive Media Console app. Further, if you haven t yet downloaded the OMC app, but intend to, you should create an AdobeID and authorize both apps using it. You will be unable to read any of the ebooks from the MyMediaMall collection on this device otherwise. You can create the Adobe ID on the Adobe.com website. Go to click on Sign In, and then Don t have an Adobe ID, and then Create once you have filled in the required fields. Page 5 of 10

6 SEARCHING FOR EBOOKS You have several options to look for an ebook to checkout. BROWSE THE SHELVES there are several categories listed To see more titles, click on List View These are selections of titles, not the full number of ebooks in the subject area. BROWSE BY CATEGORY choose the Categories tab these represent all the subject areas in the library s collection Click on the category description to see a full list of books in that subject area. NOTE: If you click on Filter, you can limit to books currently available to check out Page 6 of 10

7 SEARCH if you are looking for a specific title or author, choose the Search tab Enter your search terms in the box, and then click the magnifying glass icon NOTE: You can limit to books currently available to check out by clicking on the Advanced Filter drop down menu CHECKING OUT AN EBOOK One you have a list of ebooks, you can check one out (you are able to check out 5 ebooks at one time) If a book is available to check out, click the green Check Out button The first time you check out an ebook, you will either need to Activate an existing Adobe ID or create an Adobe ID (although there is an option to use a 3M Adobe ID, DO NOT choose this if you intend to use the OverDrive MyMediaMall ebook collection. 8 The book will download to your My Books page, and automatically open, so you can begin reading on your computer or transfer the ebook to your ereader. TRANSFERRING AN EBOOK TO YOUR EREADER Connect your ereader to the computer using the USB cable. Click on the green Transfer to Device button, and the file will be sent to the ereader for you to read PLACING A HOLD ON AN EBOOK If an ebook is checked out, you have the option to place it on hold. Instead of the Checkout button, there will be a grey Add to Hold List button You can have 5 ebooks on hold at one time. Page 8 of 10

9 Once the book has been added to your hold list it will show up on your My Books page. It will let you know how long your wait for the book will be. There is currently no way to receive an alert when your hold is available. The hold will remain available for 3 days before it goes to the next person on the list, so it s a good idea to check every couple of days. While the anticipated wait time is listed, the time could be shorter if someone returns the book early. READING HISTORY A list of all the books you have checked out and read is maintained in the Reading History. You can access this list from the My Books page, and clicking on Reading History Page 9 of 10

10 RETURNING AN EBOOK EARLY There is currently no mechanism to return an ebook early using the PC or Mac app. This is an option with the ios, Nook (tablet) and Android apps.
