1 JOB DESCRIPTION: Family Support Worker Division Section Post Title Grade Responsible To Purpose of Role Main Duties/ Responsibilities Leeds City Council Integrated Services ireborough Cluster Family Support Worker C3 Integrated Services Leader day to day line management and performance management To engage with families across the ireborough Cluster to coordinate and provide early intervention family support within a framework of integrated services. To help children, young people and families to overcome barriers to learning and participation in order to improve future outcomes. Engage and consult with parents/carers of children in years 1-11 (5-16 years old) to promote early intervention, high quality parenting (assertive, consistent, responsive and engaged) and identify where there are needs. Keep records and appropriate documentation pertaining to any contact and work with children, young people and families. Work with line manager and cluster working groups to ensure data recorded demonstrates the impact and outcomes of the work undertaken. Work alongside other key agencies to identify and work with families in need of support i.e. Learning Mentors, SENCO, Outreach Workers, Family Support, ttendance Officers, Social Care, Health Visitors, Educational Psychologist. Work in partnership with cluster based workers/teams to identify and address key priorities in relation to absence, attendance and truancy, behaviour leading to risk of exclusion and healthier living. Support with the delivery of parenting support and group programmes e.g. Family Caring Trust, Webster Stratton -Incredible Years, STEPS - targeting those most in need. Work in partnership with other agencies and providers to deliver a range of family learning provision in schools and other settings. To signpost parents/carers to the range of universal groups, supports, services and activities on offer, including Library services, out of school activities, web-based information i.e. Family Hub, health services, youth services and groups.

Participate in self-development, attend training, groups relevant to role to keep up to date with current initiatives, best practice guidance and approaches. Have an awareness and commitment to Children Leeds and Schools core strategies and policies such as Safeguarding and Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety as well as Inclusion and Participation. Working in partnership with stakeholders ensure that the voice of children, young people and parents/carers count in cluster decision making processes via a variety of consultation tools and approaches. Specific priorities including some or all of the above duties/responsibilities will be determined via the Joint Collaborative Committee and/or working groups and communicated through the line manager. Line Management through ireborough Integrated Services. Key Partnership links with existing Parent Support Outreach Workers employed by Integrated Services, Commissioned TaMHS and dult Therapeutic Services SENCOs, Learning Mentors, Children s Centre Outreach Workers, Youth Service and Educational Psychologist in addition to Social Care, Health Visitors and other relevant services including dult Services. Office and group working space currently in ireborough Integrated Services Building (Yeadon Westfield Infants School site). lso key links with Children s Centres and Primary Schools as partners and venues for service delivery. Leeds City Council operates a non-smoking policy. Hours: 37 hours per week with occasional evening or pre-school hours working where family support needs require it. Scale: C3 pro rata Relevant Qualifications include: NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Health, Education, Social Care or dult Learning Support CCHE Diploma in Childcare and Education BETEC National Diploma in Childhood Studies Certificate in Education Dip HE in Youth and Community Work

3 PERSONNEL SPECIFICTION: Family Support Worker Detailed below are the types of skills, experience and knowledge that are required of applicants applying for the post. The Essential Requirements (ESS) indicate the minimum requirements, and applicants lacking these attributes will not be considered for the post. The Desirable Requirements (DES) are additional attributes that while not essential may be used to distinguish between acceptable candidates who meet the essential requirements. 5 Knowledge Proven ability to detect and refer any non-accidental injury in a sensitive and nonjudgmental manner. Experience in multi-professional and multi-agency working to respond to needs of children, young people and families Experience in undertaking or participating in Common ssessment Framework (CF) and team around the child meetings clear understanding of the structures and policies in relation to Education Leeds and Leeds City Council Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding and child protection Knowledge of the social and emotional factors that affect a child s capacity to learn Knowledge of available support services and referral routes bility to provide general advice and guidance on established procedures and to seek specialist advice or support where appropriate Knowledge of locality Other Qualifications/Skills Driving licence and a willingness to travel within Leeds CF and Lead Professional trained (the successful candidate will be required to undertake this training if they have not already done so) Trained in STEPs and/or a recognised you have manual based parenting programme i.e. Family Caring Trust, Family Links Nurturing, Webster Stratton (training in one at least one of these approaches will be a requirement of the post if the successful candidate does not already have this training) Trained as a trainer in adult learning. Special Requirements Unequivocal references will be required post interview The responsibilities of the post require the post holder to have significant unsupervised contact with pupils and their families and an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure will be required prior to appointment following interview.
