6 Use Case Hazard Warning / Road works safety trailer Road works information is sent to the Traffic Control Center The driver receives information about road works warning from a RSU. Traffic Control Center instructs dedicated RSUs to provide additional information (e.g. IVS speed limitations) 1 Input for message generation from Central Management System Central Management System 4 At the same time information is sent from the safety trailer to the Traffic Control Center. 7 Use Case Intersection Assistance The traffic light sends every second the remaining red and green times of each signal group to the vehicle The traffic light sends every second the geo-referenced intersection topology Based on GPS positioning and the Intersection Information, the in-vehicle application can provide different intersection assistance functionalities such as Smart Start-Stop Automatic, Green Wave etc. Traffic Controller Traffic Light 1 Information about the actual state of the next traffic light in driving direction is sent from the Road Side Unit. C2I Road Side Unit 5.9 GHz Air Link C2X On-Board Unit 2 The driver receives the information instantly on the Display of his on -board unit or an additional smart device. 3c In case it is detected that the driver does not slow down and will violate the red light, the traffic light controller prolongs the red signal phase of the traversing traffic. 3b The driver is informed based on the distance to the traffic light that the signal will change to red next and that he should slow down. 3a The driver waiting on the red traffic light is informed that the signal will change soon to green so that he can prepare for a swift start. 7

8 Use Case Public Transport Prioritization Bus-OBU logs in at the traffic light The traffic light recognizes the prioritization requirement and adapts its green and red phases The remaining green time is communicated to the vehicle and displayed to the bus driver. Traffic Controller Traffic Light C2I Road Side Unit 5.9 GHz Air Link C2X On-Board Unit 2 To reduce travel time, the red phase is reduced and the green phase extended. The up-dated phases are sent to the bus and displayed to the bus driver. 3 After passing the intersection, the bus logs out. 1 The bus logs in to the traffic lights. 9 Use Case Virtual Traffic Loop (Data Aggregation) Virtual Traffic Loop functionality implemented by RSU RSU aggregates CAM data from multiple vehicles and provides information to Traffic Control Center and Central Management System This use case is the basis for the Use Case: Distribution of Local detected Hazard Warning 3 Traffic Control Center receives the virtual sensor information and decides to relay information to CMS or to generate warnings (e.g. Distribution of locally detected Hazard Warning) 2 RSU receives, aggregates and anonymizes CAMs and sends virtual traffic loop data to C-ITS Central Management System 4 CMS receives aggregated data, and performs data processing and is enabled to issue warning information (e.g. Distribution of locally detected Hazard Warning) 5.9 GHz Air Link C2X On-Board Unit 1 Vehicles send CAMs. 9

10 Use Case Distribution of locally detected Hazard Warning A vehicle sends a Traffic Hazard/Stationary Vehicle Warning A RSU receives the warning and sends the information to the Traffic Control Center Traffic Control Center instructs dedicated RSUs to provide additional information (e.g. IVS speed limitations) Central Management System 3 Traffic Control Center distributes intelligently IVS (e.g. speed limitations) and DENMs to the relevant zones 2 RSU receives hazard warning and relays the information to the Traffic Control Center 5 CMS receives aggregated data, and performs data processing and is enabled to issue warning information (e.g. Distribution of locally detected Hazard Warning) 5.9 GHz Air Link 4 The driver receives the information instantly on the Display of his onboard unit or an additional smart device. 5.9 GHz Air Link C2X On-Board Unit 1 Vehicle sends hazard warning. 10
