2 The university town of Heidelberg A river cruise is like no other travel experience. The leisurely pace and the quietness of the ship create a tranquillity unmatched by any other form of transport. This is Europe at its most romantic and you will experience its charm, culture and beauty first hand. This cruise is run in association with the International College of Dentists. There are a number of CPD lectures and on-shore dental visits along the way, a partner programme and a full cultural itinerary. This Alsatian town s immediate attraction is its soaring Gothic cathedral, a red sandstone building that manages to be both immense and intricate. Visit the Gothic-meets-Renaissance astronomical clock, where a parade of figures portraying Jesus with his apostles emerge when the clock strikes. Enjoy a private wine tasting, sampling Alsace s superb wines, before returning to the ship. Check on to the adeus Silver in asel and meet your fellow travellers and tour leaders over welcome cocktails and dinner as the ship sets sail. Arrive in Strasbourg the following morning. Take a cable car to the fortress of Ehrenbreitstein, Koblenz Onto Speyer, where the ship docks next morning. The morning is at leisure to relax or explore the attractive town, one of Germany s oldest. Return to the ship for lunch and a CPD dental lecture as the ship sets sail for Mannheim. Disembark in the afternoon and drive to the world famous university city of Heidelberg. Explore the lovely city, renowned for its baroque Altstadt (Old Town), vibrant student atmosphere, beautiful riverside setting and evocative half-ruined hilltop castle, which you will explore, along with the pharmacy museum. Cruise overnight to Ruedesheim, where you will spend the morning at leisure with an optional walking tour. Return to the ship for lunch and set sail for Koblenz. This ancient flower-filled town is at the bottom of the Moselle Valley, where the Moselle and Rhine rivers converge. Disembark and take a cable car across the Rhine to visit the mighty fortress of Ehrenbreitstein, towering high above the river. Afterwards take a guided walking tour through the winding alleys of the old town. Next morning drift along the Moselle River through perfect chocolate box scenery en route to Cochem. Your first sight is a bank of pastelcoloured, terrace-fronted restaurants lining the waterfront and a dramatic castle precipitously perched high above. Disembark and explore the town, with its half-timbered houses straight out Arrive in Cologne next morning. There is a professional visit to Cologne School of Dentistry in the morning, with partners at leisure. The group rejoins later in the morning to explore the history and architecture within the medieval surroundings of the famous cathedral, whose soaring filigree spires dominate the landscape. Return to the boat after lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure as you cruise into the Netherlands, with the Captain s Gala Dinner on board in the evening. Next morning there will be CPD lectures on board and an Open Forum. Arrive in Volendam early afternoon and disembark for a visit to the impressive open air museum of Zaanse Schans, which shows how the Dutch harnessed wind and water using windmills, which are originals still working today. Continue to sterdam by coach, stopping to explore the quaint harbour of Volendam with its traditional wooden houses on the way. Explore sterdam in the afternoon, taking in the Royal Palace, the Skinny ridge, the Flower Market and the Portuguese Synagogue. The boat spends the night in harbour so you can enjoy the gezellig quality of the city convivial or cosy at your leisure. Disembark the next morning or join the sterdam extension. sterdam

6 The adeus Silver on the Rhine adeus Silver The brand new luxury AMADEUS Silver II was built in This premium passenger vessel is fitted out with elegant décor and modern and ecologically aware facilities. Professor Phillip Dowell is a specialist periodontist and past president of the ritish Society of Periodontology. He has lectured both nationally and internationally and is the author of many publications. He is past European President and current President Worldwide for the International College of Dentists. Dr Sheila Stork is an independent consultant occupational physician. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine and a specialist in aviation medicine. Sheila is Medical Adviser to the ritish Airline Pilots Association and a member of several professional bodies, including the Royal Aeronautical Society.
