2 About Us High Trees Community Development Trust is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Established in 1998 and based in Lambeth, South London, High Trees has been delivering projects and services to local people for many years by offering personal and skills development courses for all sections of the community. High Trees is now an established community anchor and hub. We work with local people and external partners to build the capacity of individuals and smaller voluntary community organisations. Through the projects and services we deliver, and partnerships we enter into we seek to regenerate the communities socially and economically. Service Provision includes: Personal development and skills courses for parents and vulnerable adults Employability consultancy for unemployed people Family support for parents referred from social care and schools for children at risk of exclusion due to challenging behaviour Term time and Holiday programmes for children and young people including a Homework club for 8-13 year olds We are the UK s first community organisation to deliver the award-winning Apps for Good Programme with one of the Apps designed on the course winning a Liberty Humanitarian Award (2012) High Trees Community Development Trust has extensive experience of community development and a track record of contract delivery and partnership collaboration across Lambeth. High Trees is a preferred provider of Lambeth Adult Learning Services, Lambeth Early Years Services and an accredited centre for UK online, National Open College Network, The Chartered institute of Housing and NCFE. Opportunities We are currently looking for experienced freelance trainers/tutors to join our bank of skilled and well regarded trainers. You will help us to deliver our training provision and expand our areas of delivery and expertise. 2
3 High Trees CDT Freelance Trainer/Tutor per hour to per hour (dependent on experience, qualifications and contract being covered) As a qualified and experienced adult trainer/tutor, you will be registering your interest in joining our tutor pool. Successful applicants will be notified of appropriate sessional tutor vacancies as and when they arise - day, evening, and weekend classes may be available. You must hold a teaching qualification (or working towards one). For Maths, English and ESOL positions, as well as a teaching qualification, applicants must hold or be working towards a subject specialist qualification at level 4/5. We are recruiting tutors for classes planned for 2016 How to apply: Submit an up to date CV that demonstrates your training/teaching experience. Clearly state in a covering letter the subject you are applying to teach and address your suitability for each of these subjects. In addition address the points covered in the Person Specification demonstrating your ability to meet the criteria. Indicate if you have the expertise to deliver training or workshops in any other areas not currently listed. You will need a recognised teaching qualification meeting Lifelong Learning Sector professional requirements. We are also seeking to expand our areas of delivery so do indicate any areas of expertise you have in delivering training. * The titles are an indication of the areas we are looking for. You may have experience of delivering courses with different titles. 6 JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Trainer/Tutor Based at: Various Responsible to: Employment, Education and Training manager and Education and Training Co-ordinator Responsible for: None JOB PURPOSE: To plan and deliver bespoke training courses and courses leading to qualifications in accordance with the quality improvement standards of the awarding organisations, funders and High Trees CDT. High trees CDT keeps a list of approved tutors who are contracted to plan and deliver courses. Inclusion in the list of approved tutors does not guarantee the offer of work. MAIN DUTIES: 1. To plan, teach and evaluate training as agreed with the line manager and to agreed policy and standards. 2. To support learners through providing accurate and appropriate information, advice and guidance about study, qualifications, and learning needs (including additional learning needs). 3. To promote the safety and well-being of all learners. 4. To work in co-operative and creative partnership with funders. 5. To provide assessment of learners skills and knowledge in compliance with Assessment Policy. 6. To participate in assessment quality assurance activity as required (standardisation and moderation/verification). 7. To meet set deadlines and organise own workload and priorities. 8. To complete course paperwork within deadlines as required including; registration documentation, evaluation, feedback and any other documentation required. 9. To reflect on own performance and continuously seek ways to improve effectiveness of teaching and assessment. 10. To carry out professional development activities and training to ensure that statutory and regulatory requirements are met. 11. To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be requested. 6
7 PERSON SPECIFICATION: ESSENTIAL CRITERIA The Trainer/Tutor will: 1. Hold a recognised teaching qualification minimum Level 3 (or working towards one). 2. Be knowledgeable and have an understanding and experience of teaching adults. 3. Have confidence in the use of ICT for communication purposes and to promote teaching, learning and assessment 4. Be up to date in her or his knowledge and understanding of the subject matter of the courses and qualifications to be taught and, where appropriate of the needs and concerns of employers. 5. Have confidence and effectiveness in verbal communication 6. Be able to communicate in writing with accuracy and conciseness. 7. Have an understanding of and a commitment to equality of access and opportunity, to anti-discriminatory practice and safeguarding policy and procedures, 8. Have a commitment to promoting the ethos and philosophy of High Trees CDT 9. Be able to meet set deadlines and organise own workload and priorities. 7
8 Frequently Asked Questions Can you guarantee me regular work? No. High Trees CDT cannot guarantee that you will be offered any work, it will depend on demand in your area. What will I get paid? The rate of pay is based upon your qualifications and experience and it is dependent on the funder/contract you are engaged to train for. Who is responsible for paying my tax and NI? You are. As a freelance trainer, you will invoice us for your agreed fee once you have delivered the session and returned all paperwork required. We will accept invoices on a monthly basis for longer courses. Will I need to prepare materials and information packs before the session? You will need to prepare your own course materials. Photocopying can be done in our office. We will expect you to complete schemes of work and lesson plans. Will I need to provide my own equipment? Yes, you may be required to provide the equipment you need to deliver your sessions. On some sites we do have access to laptops, projectors, screens, whiteboards and flipcharts. However, this cannot be guaranteed for every location. Computers will be provided for our IT classes. 8
