3 Foreword Terminal Overview, the Netherlands and Poland This overview of Polish and Dutch terminals was prepared for the visit of the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Environment to Poland on 22 and 23 May 2012, in the framework of the bilateral cooperation on railways between the Netherlands and Poland, One of the objectives of the bilateral cooperation is to increase railway freight services between the two countries. As shown in studies carried out by both Ministries, railway freight transport can compete with the other transport modes in the areas of price and time. Both the Dutch and Polish rail freight market are very liberalised. Part of the success of the liberalisation of the market is that current and potential clients can easily obtain market information on services, access conditions, quality aspects and where applicable prices. In the Netherlands, the Rail Cargo Information Centre was established through a joint initiative of all stakeholders. The Rail Cargo Information Centre provides neutral rail information and promotes rail freight transport ( This terminal overview is the start of providing information on rail services for a selected number of terminals in both the Netherlands and Poland. Both Ministries endorse the idea of extending information about rail freight services and promoting it. Such an initiative could increase the rail freight services between the Netherlands and Poland. 3/30
