2 What is College Credit Plus?

3 Opportunity to Earn College Credit Open to students in grades 7 12 College-ready students Many college course options, including summer courses Public colleges are free Participating private colleges may charge

4 College-readiness determined by college. Test cutoff scores/minimum GPA etc. set by college, not the high school.

5 Apply and Get Admitted Participate by getting admitted into a college. May have to take a placement test and meet other criteria. Must meet application deadlines of the college.

6 Student Choice Once you are admitted to a college for College Credit Plus, you may take any course in the college s course catalogue that is not remedial or religious, and that applies toward a degree or professional certificate, in a subject area in which you are college-ready.

7 Graduate with College Credit Earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year; summer is the first semester of the year. No more than 120 college credit hours total across all years of participation (includes summer).

8 Find the Colleges and Courses that Fit Students have options Sample pathways are available to help guide your course selection. You will have an advisor assigned to you at the college to assist as well.

9 A semester college course of 3 or more credits counts as a one-year high school class.

10 Under what scenarios can a qualified student use College Credit Plus?

11 You want to take college courses to satisfy your high school graduation requirements. You completed your high school graduation required classes and you want to begin college work. You want to explore college and take a course in a subject that interests you.

12 Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for either books or fees. Students attending a private college may have a cost that includes books and fees. Books may have to be returned to Westlake Schools in order for grades to be added to your transcript. If books are damaged, you may have to pay for the books.

13 District will not provide or pay for: Transportation, Parking Expenses, Technology

14 Consider Your Personal Academic Goals

15 If you fail the class or drop it after the 14 th calendar day after the class starts, you may have to pay for the class and the books for the class.

16 Weighted Grades College courses must be weighted the same as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate in the same subject area. AP, IB Course College Course

17 Grades are Applied to Graduation Requirements The grade you earn in the college course is applied to your high school graduation required class.

18 Considerations Academic Readiness vs. Social Readiness Credits earned will transfer to public colleges and universities in OH, may transfer to private institutions in OH and out of state schools (transferability vs. applicability) Communication with WHS/LBMS may be limited by virtue of not being here full time May not be able to take the courses you want at WHS/LBMS due to timing of CCP courses College level expectations College calendar/breaks may be different

19 Athletic Eligibility Students must be passing five, one credit courses or the equivalent in which enrolled the immediately preceding grading period. College courses for which three or more semester hours of credit are earned shall be awarded one Carnegie unit. The factor of 2 is used for post-secondary institutions that are on the semester system. The faculty members at the post-secondary institution understand that they will need to provide grades or a progress report at the time when the high school s grading period is over. 20 Graduation Tests All students must take end of course exams (AIR) in English and Math. Grades from an equivalent College Credit Plus course may be converted to graduation points in place of Physical Science, Biology, American Government, or American History exams.

21 Next Steps If you intend to participate in College Credit Plus in the school year (including Summer), you must submit a letter of intent to your counselor by April 1 You will then apply to the college where you intend to take CCP courses. You will be required to submit an ACT/SAT score or take the college s placement exam as part of the application. You will also need an official transcript (release form available on our website) from your counselor. Deadlines for application are set by the colleges Once you are accepted, you will notify your counselor and obtain authorization to register for courses (which requires a signed Authorization letter and college registration authorization form) Once registered, bring a copy of your schedule to your counselor to be added to your LBMS/WHS schedule Summer schedules must be set prior to June 9
