2 Level 1 Technical Management Applicatins 1 - Glssary Level 1 intrduced three distinct learning paths which all cnverge when discussing telepresence slutins. They are Plycm terminlgy fr features and functins, technical netwrk terminlgy which is used t detail hw thse features and functins wrk, and als the actual slutins themselves. We will develp each f these three paths further thrugh each training level, but first we will recap the key pints cvered s far which specifically apply t resurce management and take a lk at what is cming up. 4 Level 1 Technical Management Applicatins 2 - Features RealPresence Distributed Media Applicatin (DMA) The hardware (appliance) frm f RealPresence Distributed Media Applicatin (DMA) utilizes the same server t the RealPresence Resurce Manager and RealPresence Vide DualManager 400. RealPresence DMA licensing is managed by number f cncurrent calls. A RealPresence DMA ut f the bx prvides licensing fr 50 cncurrent calls, and mre can be added t in bundles f 50, 100, 500, 1000 r Befre becming a call cntrl server (befre the release f v3.0), the licensing fr the DMA was simply determined by hw many MCUs were required. When upgrading a RealPresence DMA t v3 r higher, each RealPresence Cllabratin Server (RMX) license will be cnverted t a license fr 200 cncurrent calls. Redundancy is available in tw different ways. The first way f achieving redundancy cnnects tw servers with a crssver cable t create a dual-server cluster. Althugh each RealPresence DMA maintains its wn database, they are cnstantly replicating each ther and maintain the same state. In this cnfiguratin the RealPresence DMA dual-server cluster has a virtual IP address which is used fr GUI access, gatekeeper registratin and s n, and each server still has its wn real IP address if direct access is required. In this frmat up t 5,000 cncurrent calls and 15,000 device registratins are available. Optinal Micrsft Active Directry integratin is pssible if required. The secnd redundancy methd is where single servers and dual-server clusters are linked t each ther n the same netwrk. Up t five servers and clusters can be linked in this way, which is knwn as a supercluster. A supercluster wrks the same way as the dual-server cluster, except that the database replicatin is perfrmed acrss a netwrk. In the event f a cluster failure, anther cluster will take ver. In this frmat, up t 25,000 cncurrent calls and 75,000 device registratins are available. Single server Supercluster WAN Dual-server cluster The sftware (virtual editin) frmat f RealPresence DMA is able t supprt the same capacities as the appliance versin with the apprpriate server specificatin. 5 Level 1 Technical Management Applicatins Sftware Keys As mentined in Level 1, a sftware key is used t unlck extra features shuld they be required by the custmer. Sftware keys fr RealPresence DMA are available fr the fllwing features: Single-server Upgrade (used t create a dual-server cluster) Upgrade t add 50 cncurrent calls Upgrade t add 100 cncurrent calls Upgrade t add 500 cncurrent calls Upgrade t add 1000 cncurrent calls Upgrade t add 5000 cncurrent calls (appliance versin nly) Upgrade t allw access t API (Applicatin Prgramming Interface) suite fr third party integratin and management Virtualizatin and lad balancing The primary cnference management functin f RealPresence DMA is t prvide virtualizatin and lad balancing services fr all cnnected cnference platfrms. Supprted cnference platfrms (MCUs) are: RealPresence Cllabratin Server series Cisc TelePresence MCU 4000 Series Cisc TelePresence MSE 8000 Series The RealPresence DMA manages this by prviding ad-hc cnferencing services thrugh the use f virtual meeting rms. Rather than all the MCUs hlding individual meeting rms, users dial int a RealPresence DMA virtual meeting rm and the RealPresence DMA finds an MCU t take the call. Instead f dialing the MCU E.164 alias fllwed by the meeting rm ID, the user dials int the RealPresence DMA E.164 alias fllwed by the virtual meeting rm ID. This is shwn very simply in the diagram belw where the RealPresence DMA E.164 alias is 10. Dials Dials Dials Dials DMA Start a cnference fr the endpints in VMR 1000 Start a cnference fr the endpints in VMR 1005 As can be seen here, the RealPresence DMA becmes a virtual cnference platfrm and can place each call n the apprpriate MCU t balance the lad in a suitable manner. This can be dne in a number f ways using MCU pls t determine which calls g where. Fr example, the abve diagram can be amended t shw a simple gegraphical MCU setup, the incming calls will g t the nearest MCU, but in the event f a failure the ther MCU can be utilized if necessary. 6 Level 1 Technical Management Applicatins Sydney Lndn Dials Dials Dials Dials Sydney DMA Lndn Start a cnference fr the endpints in VMR 1000 Start a cnference fr the endpints in VMR 1005 If mre than ne MCU is required fr any reasn, the RealPresence DMA manages all necessary hardware s that the end user is nt aware f hw the call has been cnnected. With Active Directry integratin it is even pssible t have the RealPresence DMA generate VMR numbers fr every user autmatically, s a VMR number will match each user s phne number. In the same way that the RealPresence Cllabratin Server uses prfiles when meeting rms are created, the RealPresence DMA als uses prfiles s that it can explain t the RealPresence Cllabratin Server exactly what is required when the call fires up. All f this intelligence is perfrmed behind the scenes s that the end user des nt knw (r care) which MCU they are cnnected t, but n matter where they are cnnected frm they will be sure t jin the right cnference in the best manner pssible. Gatekeeper At the fundatin f the gatekeeper functinality is the capacity t cnfigure a netwrk shwing sites and site links. Frm there, crrectly cnfigured, RealPresence DMA will knw when a call starts up in Lndn trying t cntact Sydney, whether there is adequate bandwidth available n the links in between t allw the call thrugh. RealPresence DMA will als reslve the E.164 alias f an endpint registered t it t rute the call crrectly t the IP address f that endpint. The gatekeeper has tw mdes r methds f peratin. These are knwn as direct mde r ruted mde and differ in the management f the signaling traffic. In ruted mde, ne endpint dials anther, the call ges t RealPresence DMA, as RealPresence DMA decides where t rute it. After reslving the destinatin address, the media (audi/vide) is sent directly frm ne endpint t the ther, but the signaling still ges thrugh RealPresence DMA. This enables RealPresence DMA t manage the cnnectin fr call admissin cntrl and reprting purpses: V1 Page 6 f 16

7 Level 1 Technical Management Applicatins Signaling traffic Signaling traffic RealPresence DMA Media traffic When using direct mde, althugh the initial signaling ges via RealPresence DMA, as sn as RealPresence DMA has reslved the alias and sent the call t the ther endpint, it drps the signaling and lets the endpints take ver. Althugh this methd allws mre cncurrent calls n RealPresence DMA (as in effect RealPresence DMA is ding less), it als means that RealPresence DMA cannt manage bandwidth r reprting as it has n further knwledge f the call: RealPresence DMA Media traffic Signaling traffic In additin t registering endpints and infrastructure t it, RealPresence DMA gatekeeper can als supprt gatekeeper neighbring, where ne gatekeeper is made aware f anther, s that when a call cmes in and the E.164 alias is nt recgnized it is first passed t all neighbrs fr reslutin. RealPresence DMA als supprts alternate gatekeeper settings, which is where the gatekeeper registratins will pass t a nminated alternate IP address in the event f a failure. It als supprts prefix dialing, where a prefix is dialed fllwed by the E.164 alias t rute the call t a specific gatekeeper. The gatekeeper functin can als be used t prvide a glbal address bk (GAB) where Active Directry integratin is nt used; each endpint which registers can be set t appear if required fr ease f dialing. Where a RealPresence Resurce Manager is present in the netwrk, the RealPresence DMA can be jined t the RealPresence Resurce Manager slutin in questin, allwing it t share the sites, site links and ther tpgraphical infrmatin withut the need t duplicate the cnfiguratin manually. SIP registrar and prxy server It is cmmn in a SIP envirnment t use a prxy (ften referred t as just a SIP server) t enable simplified dialing. T cmpare at a high level, in H.323 yu dial an IP address, r V1 Page 7 f 16

In SIP, withut registratin t a prxy server yu can als dial an IP address r via a SIP URI (Unifrm Resurce Identifier). A SIP URI has a frmat f username@sip server, and the username culd be letters r numbers, fr example, if yur SIP server is vide.plycm.cm and yur username is jhnsmith, yur SIP URI wuld be jhnsmith@vide.plycm.cm. If yu were using numbers and IP addresses it might lk smething like 1000@ Hwever, when registered t a SIP server, yu can dial withut needing t add the SIP server n the end, enabling dialing via username nly. The registrar is a separate functin (ften hsted n the same server) which acts in a similar manner t a DNS server, it recrds the lcatin (IP address) f a SIP endpint with the username t assist with call setup. SIP / H.323 gateway The SIP / H.323 gateway supprts calls between SIP and H.323 devices withut the need fr an MCU. The RealPresence DMA will autmatically first try t reslve the call using SIP r H.323 at bth ends, and will nly start a gateway sessin if there is n ther way fr the call t prceed Reprting Several reprts are available n the RealPresence DMA, they are: Alert Histry shws system alerts (can be filtered by date) Call Histry shws details f each pint t pint call (can be filtered and exprted) Cnference Histry shws details f each call using an MCU (can be filtered) Call Detail Recrds (CDRs) shws call details recrds (can be filtered and exprted) Registratin Histry shws details f each endpint registratin (can be filtered) Active Directry Integratin where Active Directry integratin is cnfigured, shws cntact results fr each dmain in the frest and lists any which culdn t be cntacted (nly a dmain user can view this reprt) Orphaned Grups and Users where Active Directry integratin is cnfigured, shws all users and grups which are n lnger cntactable Cnference Rm Errrs where Active Directry integratin is cnfigured, shws all errrs with regards t cnference rm numbering such as cnflicts caused by number generatin (nly a dmain user can view and exprt this reprt) Enterprise Passcde Errrs where Active Directry integratin is cnfigured, shws all errrs with regards t passcde generatin such as cnflicts caused by number generatin (nly a dmain user can view and exprt this reprt) Netwrk Usage shws bandwidth usage n sites and site links, including call statistics shwing average packet lss, jitter and delay (can be filtered and exprted) RealPresence Resurce Manager The hardware (appliance) versin f RealPresence Resurce Manager has an entry pint f 100 devices, but can prvide registratins fr up t 10,000 devices. In additin t this, the RealPresence Resurce Manager has the ability t be clustered fr redundancy in a similar way that RealPresence DMA des, using dual-server clusters directly linked t each ther and residing behind a virtual IP address. RealPresence Resurce Manager als supprts integratin int Active Directry and multi-tenancy. This means that the available resurces licensed within the server may be V1 Page 8 f 16

A cnference scheduled directly is autmatically dialed ut at the apprpriate time, and the RealPresence Resurce Manager will try and cnnect all participants unless a participant is cnfigured during the bking prcess as dial in. If any f the endpints are in use r are nt answered the call t that site will fail, as ppsed t PCO which ffers a dial-in mdel where each participant dials frm wherever they are attending the meeting. Presence Engine RealPresence Resurce Manager prvides a presence engine, allwing cmpatible desktp and mbile slutins t nt nly be prvisined and managed n the server, but als prvides presence services t allw end-user visibility. Cmpatible Plycm prducts include RealPresence Mbile and RealPresence Desktp, which are fully featured H.323 and SIP clients. API (Applicatin Prgramming Interface) Integratin RealPresence Resurce Manager cmes cmplete with a full API suite fr integrating scheduling and mnitring tasks with existing third party slutins. S shuld a custmer have already invested in a netwrk management and mnitring slutin, adding the API license t the RealPresence Resurce Manager will enable the custmer t integrate the slutins, aviding the necessity fr mnitring the Plycm slutin separately. Nte that the RealPresence Resurce Manager des NOT include gatekeeper functinality; it must be used in cnjunctin with RealPresence DMA t prvide a full call cntrl and management slutin. RealPresence Vide DualManager 400 Althugh it shares the same server type, unlike RealPresence DMA and RealPresence Resurce Manager, RealPresence Vide DualManager 400 is nly available in a hardware (appliance) versin, and des nt supprt redundancy. It is designed fr small t midsize custmers wh require a cst-effective slutin fr their vide envirnment management. It prvides bth the functinality f RealPresence Resurce Manager, supprting up t 400 devices, and the functinality f RealPresence DMA, supprting up t 150 cncurrent calls. 12 Level 1 Technical Management Applicatins 3 - Architecture As previusly stated, all three hardware (appliance) versins f the Management Applicatin slutins share the same server type. They run n a Linux platfrm which is very secure and nt susceptible t netwrk threats r attacks, and have a 1RU rack-muntable chassis, cmplete with dual pwer supplies. Each server has tw 146GB hard drives cnfigured in a RAID-1 frmatin, which means that ne f the hard drives is used fr data strage and the ther autmatically makes a cmplete cpy f the first hard drive in case f failure r crruptin. (RAID stands fr Redundant Arrays f Inexpensive Disks and there are a number f standards which have all been given a number fr simple identificatin). V1 Page 12 f 16
