The Sport & Fitness Centre: Open 7 days per week, free to students (9.00am to 4.30pm) and offering the latest range of equipment plus one to one personal training and advice. Glebegate Restaurant: Open to the public, all meals are produced and served by our award winning students and staff. Refresh Bistro: A lunch time eatery where all food is freshly prepared to order, to eat in or take away. The Salons: Hair and beauty salons open to the public and offering a wide range of treatments, including the latest hairdressing cuts, colours and styles, waxing, manicures and pedicures, plus a full range of holistic treatments. Budding Florists: Up to date contemporary floral displays for sale, created by students and staff of the College s Floristry and Horticulture department. It caters for the individual children s needs in a happy, safe and nurturing environment. Hinckley campus: Our purpose built campus has everything for your creative arts studies. It includes a lecture/performance theatre with 128 seats and high spec audio visual equipment, a fully equipped learning and resource centre, the Usual Place, a 55 seat cafeteria, and Blank Canvas, a shop stocking art supplies and stationery. Along with these facilities it also has a graphics studio, photographic dark room and infinity cove, a music recording studio, woodwork studio and rooftop raku kilns. 9 Facilities AT South Leicestershire College The Eating Place: A relaxed area to eat and meet with friends, choose from a wide range of snacks, meals and drinks throughout the day, until 8pm in the evening. The Nursery: A day nursery that offers a caring and stimulating environment for children from three months to school age. Open to children whose parents are studying at the college. Therapies Suite: Open to all to experience a range of holistic and luxurious beauty treatments using Dermalogica products. Included in the Therapies Suite are a dry floatation tank, sauna room and steam room. The Gym: Including the latest range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment in a safe and supervised gym. The Salon: A newly opened hair salon offering all the latest treatments at a fraction of the high street price. The Professional Pod: This is a dedicated area for students on professional and higher education programmes. 10 Money Tuition Fees Fees will be stated upon application. Full-time and part-time students can apply for a tuition fee loan which covers the fees that are charged each year of your course. These loan payments are paid directly to the college. To apply for a tuition fee loan with Student Finance England visit: Studying at College is a more cost-effective way to study, with university fees now starting at 9,000 per year. Living costs Full-time students are also able to apply for the following: Maintenance Loan Help with daily costs like travel, books and materials etc. Maintenance Grant Available to students whose household income is 42,875 or less Special Support Grant May be available instead of the Maintenance Grant if you qualify for Income Support or Housing Benefit If you re aged 24 or over 24+ Advanced Learning Loans may be able to help you achieve your goals without worrying about the cost. These loans go towards the tuition fees for courses at Level 3 or above and are low-interest, not based on income and there are no upfront costs. Better yet, you only need to pay back your 24+ Advanced Learning Loan when you have finished your course and you re earning more than 21,000 a year. It is important to note that if you take out a loan for an Access to Higher Education course and go on to complete a degree, you will not need to repay your loan. 12 Supporting your studies Study Support Dedicated teams are available at both Colleges to ensure you get all the support you need. Academic Support If you re struggling with an assignment or worrying about an exam, we can help with essay planning and exam techniques as well as providing specialised equipment if necessary. Specialist Assessment Services We can carry out assessments to enable us to provide you with the most appropriate level of support for your learning. Physical Support All reasonable adjustments will be made to support disabled students. To help us do this we have a range of specialist equipment including wheelchairs, screens/keyboards and a loop hearing system. Tutoring When you start your course, you will be assigned your own personal tutor. You will meet with them on a one-to-one basis to set targets for your learning and to check your progress. 14 GRADUATION Each year all successful students on Higher Education (Level 4 and above) programmes are invited to attend a graduation ceremony, either at your college or partner university. 16 Access to Higher Education Are you aged 19+ and looking to enter higher education but don t have the formal qualifications needed? Access courses are an ideal way for you to change or develop your career. You will be assessed on your work and life experience and there is no upper age limit. The programmes on offer are backed by a Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) recognised certificate and provide a great platform for progression onto degree level study. 21 Liam Danks HNC in Computing & Systems Development - South Leicestershire College I worked as a labourer, travelling all over the UK but decided I wanted to better myself and go back to College. The HNC is perfect as it is teaching me new skills with technology which will help me achieve my future career plans. 38 Higher Apprenticeships What are they? Higher Apprenticeships are the equivalent to a foundation degree, which can lead on to senior job roles or university level education. They allow you to gain your Level 4 qualification, get real work experience and earn a wage, all at the same time. Who can apply? Anyone with substantial experience or existing qualifications within the chosen subject area. You must also be employed within this area, preferably within a senior role, to be able to gather the evidence required for assessment. What s available? 39 Fahad Nazir Accounting Apprentice - Cromwell Tools Ltd, Leicester I saw a lot of people going to college and University to become Accountants, but I thought of trying a different route. Apprenticeships caught my attention as you receive valuable experience, as well as the vital qualifications which employers look for. My Accounting Apprenticeship has allowed me to complete an AAT qualification and to build up my accountancy experience.
