5 General Information Objectives This conference provides continuing education in the prevention, recognition and treatment of child abuse and neglect, with a focus on CSEC in Georgia. At the completion of this conference, the participant should be better able to: Explain CSEC. Define child sexual abuse and identify its impact on a child and a community. Describe the legal and informal methods lawyers use to obtain records. Discuss how to work with children with developmental disorders when evaluating for abuse and neglect. Outline current CSEC prevention programs for children and young adults. Discuss factors for determining when child exploitation offenses originating on the local law enforcement level should be considered for exclusive federal prosecution or dual prosecution by both entities. Review the ways to identify children who are exposed to intimate partner violence. Describe the risk factors and consequences of teen dating violence. Who Should Attend Attorneys, law enforcement officers and juvenile court staff Child advocacy center staff and Court-appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) staff and victim advocates Medical professionals, school staff, and violence and injury prevention professionals Psychologists, mental health providers, counselors and social workers Foster parents, other caregivers and students interested in child abuse and neglect issues About the The center promotes the safety and well-being of children through advocacy in the community and the identification, assessment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. The center works closely with law enforcement agencies, child protective services and other community professionals when investigating reports of child abuse and neglect. Available services include forensic medical evaluations and interviews, multidisciplinary team reviews, case tracking and research, and collaborative partnerships. The center also offers ongoing training, education and consultation to professionals throughout Georgia and the Southeast. Children s Healthcare of Atlanta resolves to ensure that its educational mission and, particularly, its continuing medical education activities are not influenced by the special interests of any corporation or individual associated with its program.
