A crowd in the range of 55, is expected as the Panthers look to end a 2-game slide to the Tigers that extends back to 987. ABOUT THE Panthers The Prairie View A&M Panthers haven t played since a close loss to FBS member New Mexico State on Sept. 2. Prairie View is - entering the State Fair Classic this weekend and used the time off to heal after two physical contests. On Sept. 5, Prairie View A&M began the year and the SWAC schedule on a positive note as they defeated SWAC rival Texas Southern 7-7 in the 25th edition of the Labor Day Classic in Houston, Texas. The Panthers put forth an impressive defensive effort in the win as they held TSU scoreless with their lone score via an interception return. The classic marked the debut of quarterback Jay Bluford and the senior from Maryland had a solid game with two touchdown passes. On the ground, redshirt sophomore Michael Jason also had a solid outing and provided the Panthers another option in the team s running game as he led the team in rushing. On defense, Prairie View featured a revamped linebacker corps which impressed the coaching staff as the starting linebackers combined to account for 24 tackles. First-time starter Lester Butler also opened eyes as the cornerback finished with eight tackles and held TSU All- American William Osborne in check throughout the game. As expected, special teams was a strength for the Panthers as Pedro Ventura averaged 43 yards per punt while Brady Faggard nailed the game s only field goal. The following weekend on Sept. 2, the Panthers made history and faced an FBS member for the first time since Hawai i in 979 in New Mexico State. While many expected the Panthers to rollover, Prairie View came to play and went toe-to-toe with the LAST GAME RESULT: NMSU 2, PV 8 - SEPT. 2, 29 LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Jeff Fleming completed 8 of 2 passes and ran for two touchdowns as New Mexico State beat Prairie View A&M 2-8. The New Mexico State (-) win marked the first victory in the DeWayne Walker era. The former UCLA defensive coordinator took over the reins this winter after the school fired former head coach Hal Mumme. Aggies running back Seth Smith finished with 57 yards on 25 carries. Smith went over the century mark on his 4th carry of the game during New Mexico State's second-quarter scoring drive, a possession topped off by a -yard touchdown run by Fleming. Prairie View (-) inched back into the game late. Down 2-3, the team had a 9-yard scoring run from quarterback K.J. Black as well as a 27-yard touchdown toss from Black to wide receiver Anthony Weeden. The two-point conversion cut the Aggies' lead down to three, but they could not score again. In that contest, the Panthers started out strong, faded in the middle but closed out the game strong as Western Kentucky transfer quarterback KJ Black led a 5-point fourth quarter charge to put the Panthers in position to win. Due to the cancellation of the annual Angel City Classic this past spring that was scheduled for Sept. 9, the Panthers have been off for the past two weekends. ABOUT THE GSU TIGERS The defending SWAC Champion Grambling State University was picked to finish first in the annual SWAC Preseason Poll this past summer. Led by third-year head coach Rod Broadway, the Tigers have played a tough non-conference schedule and enter the State Fair Classic with a 2-2 mark. Grambling State opened the year with a match-up against Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) power South Carolina State on Sept. 6 and fell short 34-3 as quarterback Greg Dillon threw a late interception in a comeback bid. On Sept. 2, the Tigers returned home and knocked off Southland Conference foe 38-7 Northwestern State behind the strength of three defensive touchdowns. On Sept. 7, the Tigers squared off against old foe Jackson State in Jackson, Miss. and once again rode their defense as they captured a 27-7 win in a SWAC Championship Game rematch. Last weekend, the Tigers traveled north to Stillwater, Okla. and battled Oklahoma State of the FBS and Big 2 in non-conference action. GSU never found its groove on both sides of the ball as the powerful Cowboy offensive attack handed GSU a 56-6 loss. THE LAST TIME The last time Prairie View A&M defeated Grambling State, Ronald Reagan was President of the United States and head coach Henry Frazier III was in college as Prairie View knocked off the Tigers 24-9 at the Cotton Bowl. Conway Hayman was in charge of the Panthers at the time while Eddie Robinson led the Tigers. Prior to that, the Panthers last win over the Tigers occurred in 964 under the guidance of William Billy Nicks. In 966, the Panthers managed a - tie and were awarded wins in 975 and 976 as GSU opted to play another team on the schedule in place of Prairie View. FRAZIer in the STATE FAIR CLASSIC Since arriving at Prairie View in 24, Grambling remains the only SWAC team head coach Henry Frazier III has not defeated. In five meetings against the Tigers at the Cotton Bowl, Frazier has averaged 5.2 points against GSU compared to their 42.6 points. In addition, the Panthers have only scored 2 or more points once (24) as they ve had trouble finding the endzone in the stadium. Despite the margins, Prairie View has began to turn the tide and keep the game competitive after halftime. Last year, the Panthers were ahead 9- at one point over the Tigers. DÉJÀ VU? Two years ago, the Cotton Bowl served as the coming out party for former PV quarterback Mark Spivey as the current PV grad assistant was inserted in the second half and helped spark the Panthers to an exciting finish. With the game tied at 4 in the final stanza, GSU went on a 6- play, 76-yard drive that was capped off by a field goal. Spivey rallied PV to the GSU 4-yard line with seconds left but a 57-yard field goal attempt was blocked. After watching KJ Black come off the bench to pull off a near upset over New Mexico State on Sept. 2 with two late scores, the Cotton Bowl is the perfect stage for the scenario to happen again.

Frazier spent five years as the head coach at Bowie State prior to Prairie View while Broadway served as the head coach at North Carolina Central for four seasons. Both coaches were successful in the CIAA as Frazier won a divisional title while Broadway won CIAA Championships in 25 and 26. OUT TO MAKE HISTORY (AGAIN) Junior running back Donald Babers made history last season as the Houston native became Prairie View s first,-yard rusher since 988. Having already rushed for,567 yards in two years, he ll need 2,36 yards to break the school record of 3,73 yards John Payton set from After a slow start in the season opener, Babers returned to his old self with a 8-yard effort at New Mexico State on Sept. 2. QUESTION MARKS NO MORE Entering the season-opening game versus TSU, PV boasted several question marks at multiple positions including quarterback, linebacker and secondary. With the departure of three starters at linebacker last year, the Panthers began the year with a revamped linebacker unit. However, they ve performed well as all three starters rank among the top four tacklers on the team. In the secondary, redshirt sophomore Lester Butler has 2 tackles in his first season as a starter while quarterbacks Jay Bluford and KJ Black have combined to throw for three touchdown passes. ALL IN THE (PANTHER) FAMILY Purple and gold runs deep for Panther football team members Renoldo and Alonzo Revuelta. Natives of Port Arthur, Texas, the brothers are the third and fourth members of their immediate family to suit up at Prairie View. From 23-27, older brother and current graduate assistant Ralph Revuelta played tight end for the Panthers and was the second member of his family to play at PV. Their father, Arnold, also played football at Prairie View and was an assistant football coach in the mid-98s at the university. In addition, their mother (Elizabeth) also graduated from Prairie View. Both Alonzo and Ralph started their careers out at quarterback but moved to tight end. FRAZIER IN OCTOBER PVAMU head coach Henry Frazier III is 2-8 lifetime when playing in the month of October Since he arrived at Prairie View in 24, he sports a record of 8-2 in the month. The past two Octobers have been successful for Frazier as the Washington D.C. native went 3- in 27 and 3- in 28. ALL IN THE SWAC FAMILY Several members of the Prairie View A&M athletic staff have direct ties to Grambling State University. Director of Operations Robert Atkins had an All-American career at Grambling State and was a second round draft pick as he played nine years in the NFL. Defensive coordinator Heishma Northern served as an assistant coach at Grambling State from 998 to 24 while Assistant SID Ryan McGinty served as the SID at Grambling State from 26 to 29. SHERIDAN POLL SHOWDOWN Saturday s State Fair Classic will have major implications in the Sheridan Poll rankings as Grambling State and Prairie View sit next to each in the polls at 3-4. A win by the Panthers would go a long way towards solidifying the SBN Championship at the end of the year.

Wearing White Jerseys Wearing Black Jerseys Wearing Grey Jerseys Wearing Gold Jerseys STATE FAIR CLASSIC HISTORY The annual State Fair Classic, held annually at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, began in 925 featuring the Wiley Wildcats and Langston Lions. Both teams met four consecutive years in Dallas before Prairie View replaced Langston in 929. The contest always took place on Negro Day at the State Fair of Texas and would feature the city high school football championship in the afternoon followed by the anticipated college game at night. The concept of Monday Night Football could also be attributed to the State Fair Classic as the contest took place on Monday nights well into the 96s. Wiley wasn t the only college to play PV in the State Fair during that era as the Panthers battled Tennessee State in 958 and Texas Southern in 959. After relocating to Dallas in 96, Bishop College eventually took Wiley s place in the annual contest in the 43rd annual classic in 967. From that point, Prairie View maintained a presence in the Cotton Bowl with match-ups against Bishop, East Texas State (A&M Commerce), Southern and others over the years before moving its game against Grambling State to the bowl in the mid-8s. With the disbanding of the Prairie View A&M football program in 99, the State Fair Classic featured Grambling State and Elizabeth City State. Even though Prairie View brought football back in 99 (Grambling played North Carolina A&T), it wasn t until 992 that the classic would see the annual PVAMU- GSU showdown once again. Since 992, this has been the annual matchup held at the State Fair Classic. SCORE EARLY, SIT BACK AND RELAX Prairie View s success last year can be attributed to its performance in the first quarter. Last season, the Panthers outscored opponents 86-2 in the first quarter. So far, PV has scored points in the quarter this year. INTERCEPTION MACHINE Senior safety Anthony Beck has turned into an interception machine with eight picks over the course of his three-year career. After combining for three interceptions his first two years, the Houston, Texas native picked off five passes last year for 33 yards and two touchdowns. He has three INT returns for a score in his career and holds the school record. GOT TO FIX THAT The Prairie View A&M Panthers are struggling on third downs as they re only 26 percent on the season. In the season opener, Prairie View struggled on third down conversions as they were only 3 of 5 and 4 of 2 versus New Mexico State on Sept. 2. In addition, penalty yardage is a problem as the team has amassed 2 penalties totaling 77 yards. MORE THAN SPECIAL Special teams is an important facet of the game and Prairie View s punter, Pedro Ventura, can attest to that. An All-SWAC punter, Ventura averaged 39.3 yards per punt in 28 with a long of 6 yards. On kickoffs, the Houston native recorded six touchbacks and also served as PV s long field goal specialist as he went 2- for-2 with a long 37 yards. On Sept. 5, Ventura proved his worth once again as he averaged 43.8 yards per punt in the win over TSU. Against New Mexico State on Sept. 2, Ventura once again averaged 43.8 yards per punt and nailed three touchbacks. Five PANTHERS Named Preseason All-SWAC Representing Prairie View on the All-SWAC First Team are running back Donald Babers, offensive lineman James Dekle, defensive end Quinton Spears, defensive back Anthony Beck and punter Pedro Ventura. Earning second team honors were offensive lineman James Blanton and tight end Marlon Allen. Babers, Beck, Dekle, Spears and Ventura earned all-conference

The quartet of Babers, Beck, Dekle and Spears received first team honors while Allen, Ventura, offensive lineman Stoney Owens, defensive lineman Dalvin Nettles and linebacker Renaldo Revuelta landed spots on the second team. THE HEAD COACHES Henry Frazier III begins his sixth season as head coach of the Prairie View A&M University Panthers. He became the 3th head football coach in PVAMU athletic history on Dec. 22, 23. After a history-making 27 season, Frazier continued to rewrite the record books in 28 as he led the Panthers to a No. 25 national ranking after the team posted its best record since 964 following a 9- season. Due to his efforts, the national media took notice as Frazier was named the Sheridan Broadcast Network/Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year in addition to the American Football Coaches Region III FCS Coach of the Year. On the gridiron, the Panthers were dominant on both sides of the ball as they ranked second nationally in scoring defense and third in both total and rush defense. In 27, the Panthers enjoyed a four-game turnaround from the previous season as their 7-3 record marked the program s first winning season since 976. For his historymaking efforts on the field, Frazier was selected as Coach of the Year by the College Sporting News and the Black College Sports Page. During the 26 campaign, Frazier and staff made history as they defeated Southern University for the first time since 988 with an overtime victory. Also during the season, Frazier guided Prairie View to its first defensive shutout since 987 and its first-ever win in school history over Alabama A&M. In 25, Frazier continued Prairie View s upward swing and guided the Panthers to their best season since 988 with a 5-6 record. Included among the highlights was the Panthers first victory over Jackson State since 97 and the team s first SWAC road win in 7 years. In addition, Frazier moved into some elite company and joined PVAMU legendary head football coach William Billy Nicks as the only other coach in Prairie View history to beat Texas Southern in consecutive seasons. Prior to his arrival in 24, Prairie View had posted two consecutive one-win seasons in 22 and 23. In his first season at Prairie View, Frazier and staff led the Panthers to their most wins since 2 by winning a total of three games. Prairie View also defeated arch rival Texas Southern for the first time in 5 years, beating the Tigers 25-7 in the 2th annual Labor Day Classic. In doing so, he led the Panthers to their first 2- start since 964. When comparing Frazier s current win totals he has already eclipsed the win marks of the last coaches at PVAMU. A native of Washington D.C. and a 993 graduate of Bowie State University, Frazier played quarterback for BSU and went 8-3- as a starter. He guided the Bulldogs to the NCAA playoffs in 988 and a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship in 989. Upon graduating from Bowie State, Frazier entered the coaching ranks and had tremendous success as a head coach on the high school level in Maryland. Frazier continued to climb the coaching ladder and was named the head football coach at Bowie State in 999. He quickly turned his alma mater into one of the CIAA s best. In 2, Frazier led Bowie State to its best season since 989 with a 7-3 record. For his success on the field, he was selected as the Coach of the Year by the CIAA and percent Wrong Club in Atlanta, Ga. In addition, the 2 Bulldogs also fielded the number one ranked pass defense and number seven ranked defense in NCAA Division II. After an impressive 2 season, Frazier moved the BSU program to another level during the 22 season with their first-ever CIAA Eastern Division title and CIAA championship game appearance. Continuing the winning tradition in 23, he guided

7 PRAIRIE Grambling VIEW State A&M Football Weekly Release.. GRAMBLING. ALCORN STATE, STATE., SEPT. OCT. 6, 3, Page 7 the Bulldogs to their third consecutive winning season with a second place finish in the CIAA Eastern Division. Frazier s career record at Bowie State currently stands as the most victories by any football coach at BSU. Frazier s coaching philosophy centers around the belief that for a program to become successful, its players need to have fun on the field. With the success Frazier has had on-and-off the gridiron, it s no surprise that other programs have taken notice and recruited several members of his coaching staff away from him over the years. Despite being young by coaching standards, Frazier has created an impressive coaching tree over the course of his -year career as he has had several former staff members serve as head coaches, coordinators or staff members on the NCAA s FBS, FCS and Division II levels. Frazier is married to the former LaNier Turner of Washington, D.C. They have three children, Brijan (9), Brinia () and Henry IV (8). Rod Broadway, the ninth head coach in Grambling State history, recently completed his second year at the helm of the storied football program. Faced with high expectations entering the 28 campaign following a second place finish in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings during the 27 season, Broadway successfully guided Grambling back to the top of the SWAC as he led the Tigers to their 4th National Black College Championship and 22nd SWAC Championship in school history with a -2 overall record and an undefeated SWAC record. Last season s -2 mark marked only the fifth time in school history that a team has achieved the -win mark at Grambling. In addition, Broadway became only the third coach in school history to surpass the 5-win barrier at Grambling in addition to earning SWAC Coach of the Year Honors and The Pigskin Club of Washington D.C., Inc. honors on more than one occasion. As a team, Broadway also kept the Tigers among the nation s elite as they finished ranked No. in the Sheridan Poll and No. 24 in the Sports Network Division I Championship Subdivision Poll. During his first season as head coach of the Tigers in 27, Broadway immediately made an impact as he guided the Tigers to a fivewin turnaround (8-4) from the previous season in addition to capturing the SWAC Western Division Championship and a berth in the SWAC Championship Game. A total of five players received either All-American or All- SWAC honors under his watch and he was also a finalist for the prestigious Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. A native of Oakboro, N.C., the 29-year veteran of the coaching ranks wasted no time in putting his stamp on the NCCU program by posting three consecutive winning seasons of eight or more games after a 4-6 record in his inaugural campaign. During the 26 season, Broadway made history as he led the Eagles to a No. seed in the NCAA Division II s Southeast Region, a No. ranking in the SBN Poll and back-to-back CIAA titles for the first time since the seasons. He closed out his four-year career at NCCU with a decorated resume that includes multiple honors by The Pigskin Club of Washington D.C., Inc., a 33- overall record, back-toback CIAA titles, two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II Playoffs, a 6-game regular season winning streak and a 29-4 record over the past three seasons. In addition, Broadway also collected the school s first-ever victory over a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent with a victory over Southern University in 26. Prior to his tenure at NCCU, Broadway honed his skills on the NCAA football s highest level as the defensive line coach of the University of North Carolina (2-2), University of Florida (995-), Duke (98-94) and East Carolina (979-8). As an assistant coach at North Carolina, Broadway helped the Tar Heels to a No. 5 national ranking in total defense and an appearance in the Peach Bowl. While at Florida, he served as a member of Steve Spurrier s staff and helped the Gators attain four SEC Championships, six bowl appearances and one national championship in 996. A 977 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Broadway played on the defensive line from and helped lead Carolina to the 974 Sun Bowl and the 977 Liberty Bowl. Among the honors he earned were the team s Outstanding Freshman in 974 and Most Outstanding Senior along with All-ACC honors in 977. PVAMU coaches receive nfl experience While the majority of college football coaches across the nation were preparing for the start of their respective summer football camps at the end of July, three members of the Prairie View A&M University experienced life on the professional level as they were selected to participate in the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaches Internship Program. The purpose of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaches Internship Program is to expose talented minority college coaches to the methods and philosophies of summer NFL training camps. As a result, the program has brought more than,3 minority coaches into NFL training camps -- and produced four present head coaches -- after the man who conceived of the idea, Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh. Representing Prairie View A&M at NFL training camps this past summer were defensive coordinator Heishma Northern (Oakland Raiders), running backs coach Dwayne Foster (Buffalo Bills) and defensive line coach Miles Brandon (Pittsburgh Steelers). PANTHERS ON THE TUBE This fall, two Panther football games will be available nationally on ESPNU. Recently picked up by Comcast Corporation along with its broadband partner ESPN36.com, ESPNU will have more than 46 million subscribers and ESPN36.com will be available to nearly 4 million homes, a majority of broadband homes in America. The first broadcast originated from Houston, Texas on Sept. 5 as the Panthers battled Texas Southern in the season opener for both teams at Reliant Stadium. On Oct. 22, the Panthers will play a rare Thursday night gridiron showdown against Southern University
