2 Prayer Requests When you experience a family illness, a special need, or a death in your extended family, the St. Stephen faith community would like an opportunity to lift you up and your loved one in prayer and to offer support. So this is a reminder: A prayer request may be made by filling out a form in the pew racks and giving it to an usher placing it in the offering plate. You may prefer to (office@ststephen-stow.com) or phone ( ) the office. Normally Sherry Petrosky is in the office Tuesday and Wednesdays: Carol Yaquinto on Thursday and Fridays. If you or a family member is hospitalized, please provide the name and address of the hospital and the expected length of stay. Similar information is helpful if you or a family member will be in rehabilitation facility or nursing home. When your extended family experiences a death, please let us know the name of the deceased and the relationship to you and, when available, details of calling hours, funeral or memorial service. Prayer requests to gratitude for healing or significant family celebrations are also encouraged. Names will remain on the prayer list for two weeks, of course, you may request an extension. Call Committee This is an exciting and challenging time! The Call Committee has begun their work on a Congregational Profile document. This 17 page document will be used to help prospective candidates better understand the mission and ministry of St. Stephen. The committee is grateful for this opportunity to serve and appreciates all the prayerful support and reflection from the congregation. As we continue on this journey, please don t hesitate to contact any call committee members with questions or concerns. In Christ s love, Dan Gleghorn, Stephen Hodges, Val Huddleston, Tori Kuzemchak, Barbara Miller, Tiffany Ott, Jon Paul, Carter Pierce, Larry Tucker
3 Church Council Highlights for February 2015 FINANCIAL REPORT: The Actual 2014 versus the Revised 2015 Budget Comparative Report was submitted to council. Included in the adjustments were the staff 3% increases effective, as of February 1st, Choir and Bell Choir line items were combined to provide less confusion. Council discussed the proper classification/program expense for contribution envelopes. The cost of the contribution envelopes will be included with the Stewardship Ministry in the 2016 Budget. YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRIES AND LEARNING MINISTRY: A motion was made to accept and approve the following Youth & Family Ministries and Learning Ministries fund raisers: Cookie Bake Sale to be held on Sunday, February 22nd to benefit Cinthia, our compassion child, the March 7th, Youth Gathering Dinner & Auction and the May 1st & 2nd Annual Yard Sale to help fund youth mission trips and youth gatherings. Nanette Eiloo moved and Scott Schlea seconded. The motion passed. PROPTERTY/FACILITIES MINISTRY: A meeting was scheduled to meet with the Stow Fire Chief and the Captain in charge of training to discuss the Faith House. It was mentioned that an Asbestos Abatement study would need to be done. Contact will be made with Habitat for Humanity to see if this organization can be a viable option for razing the Faith House. Plans will be made to remove the contents from this building, realistically by or before May. An update will be provided at the next Congregational Meeting. WORSHIP & MUSIC MINISTRY: The Endowment Committee has granted the request to assist the Bell Choir and to help fund their training opportunity and trip at Mackinac Island this summer. They have provided $2000 to assist with the registration fees and travel expenses for this learning experience. A fundraising activities list was presented to council from the Bell Choir. A motion to accept and approve the fundraising list of events was circulated through . The motion passed unanimously. Council President, Jane Koch will notify Connie Wilson that their request has been granted with the understanding that dates will require consideration with other scheduled activities and should be posted on the office calendar. NEW BUSINESS: During our Fidelity Bond renewal, additional questions and concerns were brought to our attention. Financial checks and balances for our financial processes will be evaluated and reviewed. Regular reviews and audits should be scheduled to reduce our risk. One possible solution could be a collaborative effort between St. Mark s, St. Luke and St. Stephen to assist each other for internal reviews. There will be a Bishop s Gathering on Sunday, March 22nd at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Twinsburg, Ohio from 3:00-5:00. Council will be looking for volunteers to attend as representative from St. Stephen. A copy of the Bishop s Newsletter for February 2015 was given to each council member. The focus on this message is to reinforce the power of prayer. As the season of Lent is nearly here, we are reminded that prayer is one of the disciplines of Lent. Bishop Abraham Allende encourages us to continue the practice of daily prayer or to consider this Lenten season as a good time to begin a daily practice of prayer. Endowment Committee has scheduled three presentations to inform our congregation about their grant process, 2014/2015 grants that have been awarded and another one to tie into our Stewardship campaign. The first presentation will be held on April 19th. The other two will occur on May 17th and September 21st. On Sunday, March 1st Warren Seely, Lay Director and Head of Via de Christo will come to St. Stephen to talk about Via de Christo. There will be additional input from members that have attended previous Via de Christo weekends. A Thrivent members Committee is being formed to create guidelines for Thrivent Choice distributions. Praying together in faith
