1 3M CLOUD LIBRARY USER GUIDE Once you have installed the 3M Cloud Library, you are ready to search for ebooks and check them out (or put them on hold). Click the 3M Cloud Library icon to start. Plug your ereader into the PC if you plan to read ebooks on your Nook or Sony Reader. The opening screen shows your Library card number in the upper right hand corner, so you do NOT have to sign in each time. 6/17/13 1

2 3M Cloud Library is divided into four tabs: Shelves featured book choices, not the entire selection available Categories choices grouped for easier selection Search to find titles My Books where you see titles checked out or on hold On an Apple or Android device or tablet, the icons are at the bottom of the screen SHELVES TAB Click to see Title, Author, and availability - Checkout or Hold 6/17/13 2

3 CATEGORIES TAB Device/Tablet Categories are shown as a grid Pick a Category to see related titles. Click titles. for more specific SEARCH TAB Click on Advanced Search to see only available titles. 6/17/13 3

4 Type author, title or a subject into the Search box. Click Search. You can sort Search results 5 different ways. Click the dropdown arrow to see the choices. Sort By appears after you search. MY BOOKS TAB Shows Currently Reading, Hold List, Wish List, and Reading History. Each Title on the Hold List shows the approximate wait time. 6/17/13 4

5 HOW TO CHECKOUT A TITLE Once you find the ebook you want to check out there are 2 ways to do so: from the List View screen or after you click the cover to see more information about the title. Click C he c kout Device/Tablet the book appears in the Currently Reading section of the My Books screen. IMPORTANT! FIRST TIME USE OF 3M CLOUD LIBRARY ON A PC The FIRST time you click CHECK OUT, you will have to activate the Library. (This concerns Digital Rights Management). Already use MyMediaMall on your PC? You will see this screen: 6/17/13 5

6 Never used MyMediaMall? You will see this screen: Do NOT leave this choice!!!! Click. Click Click Allow me to specify my own Adobe ID. Then click OK. If you already have an Adobe ID and password, type them in. If not, click. You will be taken to the Adobe website where you will create one. Then return to the 3M Cloud Library screen and type it your new Adobe ID and password. Click. Click CLOSE. This is a one-time action. END OF FIRST TIME ACTIVATION OF 3M CLOUD LIBRARY ON THE PC CONTINUE CHECKOUT Now your checkout will proceed. What happens depends on where you plan to read the ebook. If you are reading on the PC, you will see: 6/17/13 6

7 A checked out title then appears on the Currently Reading section of the My Books tab. And the ebook tab appears. If an ereader is plugged into the PC, you will see: 6/17/13 7

8 Click The ebook is sent to your ereader. Properly eject your ereader from the PC: Click the green arrow among the icons at the right end of the toolbar on the bottom of the desktop. Click Safely Remove then unplug your ereader. The ereader will show you the downloaded ebook after you disconnect it from your PC. MY BOOKS TAB where you see the status of your account Shows Currently Reading, Hold List, Wish List, and Reading History. Each Title on the Hold List shows the approximate wait time. 6/17/13 8

9 Click in order to check in a title. Click to return a title. Ebooks read on a PC or downloaded to an ereader (Nook, Sony Reader) CANNOT be returned early. Titles read on Apple or Android devices may be returned earlier than the two week checkout period. HOLDS The Library buys copies of ebooks but does not have unlimited copies. Some titles must be put on Hold. 7 titles may be held at any one time. 6/17/13 9

10 Once you click The My Books tab will show what you have on hold, with an estimated availability for each title. You must monitor the Hold List on the My Books tab. 3M will alert you that a book is available for checkout. You have 3 days to check out the held title. When a hold becomes available, you see REMOVE A HOLD You can ignore a hold, allowing it to expire. To cancel one, click the ebook s cover in the HOLD LIST. Click YES to remove the title from your hold list. Device/Tablet Click the title in the Hold List, then click Remove From Hold List MESSAGE CENTER - will message you when a hold title becomes available. 6/17/13 10

11 Wish List where you track books you may want to read later. Account Profile ** set up alerts for items on hold. 6/17/13 11

12 You will also use Account Profile if you are checking out books on a public computer. Click to erase your information. Despite the screen message, books do NOT have to be returned in order to log out. Click Yes. UPDATES to 3M Cloud Library: On occasion, 3M will advise you that the Cloud Library has been updated.
